View Full Version : Bay Trail Ride Sunday
Hi guys,
Bikerz and I are again doing the Bay Trail this weekend, planning on meeting at the corner of the frontage road in Emeryville where you turn to go into Chevy's, 2 pm Sunday, 20ish flat miles.
Anyone who'd like to join us is welcome. Feel free to pm me and I'll give you my cell number.
Cheers,
Amy

Ace,
Spazzdog has some fool idea of designing a route from her pad up into the hills. She feels I need to get of of the Bay Trail and climb for ALC in June.
Oh I suppose she's right. :o Wanna join us?
I must respectfully decline, and stick to the blessed flatness of the Bay Trail, Trek. My knee injury is keeping me on the flats for at least another couple of weeks. Maybe you guys can do the hills Saturday, and do a nice recovey ride with us on Sunday? ;)

"Fool" checking in :p
Yep, got a route... part courtesy of the Tuf-Map for the east bay with a add of a couple of miles to leave and return from my house.
The Tuf-Map route is 23 miles with 2200+ climbing in total. The bit from my place may add 2 mi and a smidge more climbing.
Got a feeling though that I'm alone in this one... not feelin' the love for city riding + hills. That's OK. I'm a little wierd in that I don't mind traffic. Blame it on riding in Manhattan
Waiting to here final decision from Ms. Trk420

I'll join you one of these days, Spazz - I'm working my way back into the "climbing groove", with a detour these days on the flats while I break in a new saddle. Keep me posted about your plans, and I'd be interested in knowing what your route is.

From my place:
meander up to Fairmount (R), Moss (L), Vernon (L), Santa Rosa (R), Jean (L), Grand (R), LakePark (L), LakeShore (L), TrestleGlen (R), Park (L), Leimert (R)
Monterey (R), Joaquin Miller (L), Butters (bear R), becomes Crestmont (I think), Skyline (R), GrassValley (R) becomes GolfLinks, 82nd (L)
Bancroft (R), 47th (R), Foothill (L), LakeShore (R), LakePark (L), Grand (R), Jean (L), SantaRosa (R), Vernon (L), Moss (R), Fairmount (R), Yosemite (L).
About 25 miles (give or take) with 2200' climbing. The climbing occurs between my place and the intersection of Crestmont and Skyline. From Skyline on it's mostly downhill according to the east bay bicycle coalition map).
All the water, gatorade, coffee and/or tequilla you can drink at my place :D
OR the many fine dining locales on Piedmont.
We may do this tomorrow yet... the jury is still out.

A change of plans but still a good ride.
Spazzdog and I met up to do Alameda Creek Trail. I attempted the Jobob Nemesis Hill, did not get all the way up, not really far even but coach Spazzdog sent me back up it 2 more times.
Oh, and I brought my commuter and tried to keep up with her on light and speedy Epezie (sp?). 26 miles, beautiful weather, I'm spent, need a nap.
But this ride she's designed we should do it! :p

Yup... probably. But it's the lesser (in climbing) or the other Oakland routes I'm looking at.
Today, Dita and I did Alameda Bay Trail... an easy 26 mi. Hope everyone else had a nice ride as well.

Glad you guys had a nice ride- I've never done the Alameda Creek Trail...something to look forward to.
Bikerz and I did the Bay Trail, I was quite leisurely, taking care of my knee, but she got some good sprints in. The wind made it somewhat challenging. Also, I almost ran over two little kids. They waited by the side of the trail as we passed (well, they let Bikerz pass) and then when I got right up to them, they darted in front of me. But I didn't actually hit either of them, thank the lord.

The ACT is one of my favorite paths, it can be a flat out and back or take a detour and add a little climbing. Either way it offers great views of the Bay and East Bay hills.
I especially like it when the weather is bad or threatening to be because it does keep the idiot factor" down. We only had one cyclist who while waiting for the women he was riding with just had to position his bike perpendicular across the trail. Not bad for a Sunday
