I have been wearing one (Fixx) for two years.

Sweetie has one. So does his dad. Both wear the bracelet type and like it.

By the way, if you do a search on this site you'll find lots of references to it.

I have a yellow wrist one, and my hubby has a black shoe ID

edited to add: I was actually inspired by this thread to get our Road IDs:

Count me in. I have had the Fixx (necklace-type) and just recently went to the bracelet ID. I have to say, they have really improved on the velcro/comfort issue of the bracelet type. Years ago, the material they used wasn't nearly as comfortable as what they offer on the their present product.

I started using one last summer, when I started going on group rides with people who really didn't know me or my "contacts." I wear it riding alone, skiing, hiking.

I have the ankle ID. I keep it looped through my helmet straps when I'm not riding, so I never have to remember to bring it with me--I always have my helmet, so I always have my ID. I got that idea from something Nancy posted, and it's worked well.

I use the kind that goes on my shoe. But others in my cycle group have the wrist one too.

Have a good weekend and safe riding!

not a lot of horseback riders would think of using a road id even thought it is a good idea to wear one. riders of all diciplines should wear it (english and western riders). That is just my opion though.

You're right....any hiker, biker, runner, walker, skier, heck ALL athletes should wear one, and especially those out and about solo.

I have a red ankle strap ID. I wear it for my rides and for my runs.

I bought one for my daughter for when she wants to go play outside or at the park. Hers is a pink wrist strap.

I have mine attached to my foot. My DH calls it my toe tag so I can be identified when I am out on my rides who know where.

I have the ankle one which I wear all the time. (I just don't take it off) and a wrist one which I keep looped on my helmet strap and put on my wrist whenever I ride.

I bought SKnot the ankle one, and he promptly lost it. Sigh.

Mine's on my shoe. My bike shoes go on, so does the ID. I put it there so I couldn't forget.

I do get grief from Younger Daughter, though, about my toe tag.

Knott, get that jeenious boy a microchip ;)  He can't loose that. He is really smart, TE.

Dogtag type, I always wear it. Never know when I'll just wander off and forget where I was. ;)

Side a) numbers of all the people who would care for my mutt. They in turn have family emergency numbers or I hope they do.

Side b) "don't tell me what I can't do"

Also have emergency numbers stored as I.C.E. in my cell phone.

Yup, me too. I have the shoe one and it is permanently velcro'd to my road shoes. And I also carry my cell phone with the ICE number in there.

Hubby got ankle ones for both of us for Christmas. I wear mine every time I ride. It's very comfortable and gives me good peace of mind.

ICE means In Case of Emergency. Basically it is your emergency contact phone number. I have two registered. One to reach my parents, the other to reach my brother. Instead of mine saying "mom and dad" in the registery it says "ICE". The emergency workers can scroll through your phone numbers and when they see "ICE" they know who to call about the emergency.

Another good idea is to keep the P.OT.S. (that's plain ol' telephone service, folks) local numbers for police and medical of the town you live in and areas you ride in programed into the cell.

From your land line if you call 911 they know precisely where you are even if you can't speak (unless you have phone service on cable or VOIP).

But if I call 911 from my cell I reach highway patrol....in Sacramento....by the time they transfer me to Northern Ca Bay Area and a few more times closer and closer to the local dispatcher precious seconds can be lost.

Whether you need help or someone else does it's easy to do and could save a life.

You can find the local dispatchers number in your phone book.

i should add those to my cell phone. i also ride horses with a cell phone in the summer with a fix-a phone arm band, i keep the phone on vibrate or slient so i don't spook the horse.

Now that I have a permanent address, I am going to order one. I am thinking I will get the ankle one. Anyone know how the wrist one for small wrists?

Trek- My cell phone actually called the local dispatch when my husband and I got firecrackers thrown at us. I need to store the non-emergency number for the crazy dogs I keep meaning to report. :o

if you go to roadid web site, they have a page showing you how to size your wrist.

I'm ordering mine soon. Been trying to figure out what I need to have on it like

No Penicillin, no cipro
GP: Dr xxxx, (310) xxx-xxxx
endo: Dr. xxxx, (310) xxx-xxxx
ICE: (310) xxx-xxxx

On my last accident 6 yrs ago, EMT was nice enough to call my house on his cell and told my housemate that it was XXX and I shoud go to Saddleback memorial hospital ASAP. I lost consciousness 3 or 4 times just in the ambulance. That's what I was told. I have no memory of the day of the accident nor for a week afterwards. No memory of CAT scans, MRI scans...Only thing I know of that day and days following are from what my friends told me and the shattered left collar bone and helmet. my right collarbone was shattered on yet another accident 17 years ago. My helmet was also destroyed in that accident.

SO WEAR A HELMET ALWAYS!!! AND CARRY AN ID ON YOU and not with you like in a seat pouch. I carried my id in the seat pouch but no one bothered to check. How the EMT got my house number I have no idea.

I get angry when I see people without a helmet.

I've been wearing an ankle strap Road ID for probably a year now when riding, and I wear the wrist strap when riding my motorcycle. Also got DH one to wear on mc rides. Plus ICE on our cell phones. Doesn't hurt to have a couple of layers of information safety.

All numbers listed will be considered emergency numbers, no? I mean, think about it: if someone is calling the number on your ID, it's probably an emergency!

I've had my wrist road ID for about two years, when started to ride the road more and more. The thing that really got me to get one is that if I get hit by a car (knock on wood), I might get seperated from my bike, where I would normally carry my ID. If my ID and emergency contact info is on me where the EMTs would see it, m family can be contacted sooner and I can be ID'd sooner as well.

I got a pink wrist one late fall. I really like it. Since I have small wrists and ankles, I wear the wrist one either way and it's great.
They also send you coupons and I gave them to my friends in my bike club so they can get one. Jennifer

I have one, wrist style, bright yellow. I wear it when I ride & learned about it here. It just makes sense to have something like this. It fits my very small wrist fine. My husband has one too (shoes) but hasn't put it on them (I just asked). We got one for our friend and city cyclist who got wrist style.

I have a blue wrist band one. I wore it all last summer while riding and had a nice stripe across my wrist from not getting sun there. LOL

Plus my hands were white and arms tan, from the gloves. LOL

I carry it with me every time I ride. If I don't feel like having it on my wrist then I strap it somewhere, but I always take it. The velcro on them is very strong so your not likely to lose it anywhere.

I used to wear the dog-tag necklace type, but this time around I've ordered the wrist type (in black).

I have enscribed my name, town of residence, DOB, BldType, insurance carrier with group id, and a couple of emergency contacts.

I remember when we got a group discount if we ordered that month and mentioned TE, and of course I didn't get a round tuit. Sigh.

Now I need to do it, and have bumped up against the same decisions that I never made last time. Who is my emergency number going to be, for starters....

I noticed on their site they gave abbreviations for different conditions. I thought hypertension and high blood pressure were the same? Maybe I need to figure out which I have, huh.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE HBP
HYPERTENSION HTN

Mr. Fish and I have been using our ankle bands for a year now and love them! We had to order new tags when we moved and they had just as good of service as they did a year ago. I'm most impressed and highly recommend.

I have the shoe pouch RoadID. I love it! And I figure the bright red pouch will draw emergency personnel's attention to my left foot. And I can keep my ID, a coupla bucks, and my debit card in the pouch, too.

I have a yellow bracelet. Face it, bike riding is not without it's risks. It is safer together but sometimes we go out alone. Even if you are with a group, having all the info right there is extremely helpful for finding your family or for the hospital or whatever else you may require.

I've been wearing one for a month (black band although now I wish I had gotten yellow or red) and just ordered one for my best friend. We both ride alot alone so best we have some ID noticeable. Just gives me some piece of mind. My friend since he is diabetic, needs to have some ID on about his disease.
