Looking for build-out suggestions

Ok, my custom Waterford is expected any day and I am working with my LBS on the build. It's currently as follows:

Campy Centaur 10 w/ campy centaur compact cranks, 12-25 cass, compact ft der, rear der, chain, shifters

Shimano R600 long reach brakes

Ritchey Pro bar and stem (FSA does not have an 80mm stem)

Salsa Poco Hbar

Cane Creek S3 head set

Terry Butterfly saddle w/ Ti rails (we'll see how it works out)

Michelin Pro race tires


We're finding it hard to get pre-built wheels in 650c and Campy hubs...the only one we can get right away now is the Mavic Ksyrium Elites ($!). Any suggestions on the wheels and/or other parts?

What's the typcial timeline & cost for having wheels made?

Peter White is making my wheels and it took about a month. (they're being shipped right now)

oh, cost was about 325 dollars until DH decided I needed a Schmidt hub. i was getting Centaur
components before that.

The time frame will vary depending on where you go!

Can't get any better than Peter White for wheels, as I've heard from many sources. My DH has nothing but huge respect for him and says he is wonderful over the phone as well.
I'm awaiting in the mail a nice large Carradice touring saddlebag right now that I purchased from Peter W. It's the Nelson in green canvas with leather straps...sweet!! :p

I recently went Centaur everything except for the brake levers/shifters, which I went Chorus. Why? Because for 2007, the Centaur shifting for the rear only allows you to "dump" (shift up) two gears at a time (Centaur used to allow you to dump multiple gears at a time...but for some reason they changed it). I like having the ability to go all the way down the cog! Just something to think about!

Mmmmm, Waterford....

(I love my Waterford) I have Campy rims and since Flosshilde is at the shop right now I can't tell you what her hubs are. I have Vittoria Randonneur tires (28's) on her right now, and I really am very happy with these tires. I even got the reflective sidewalls, cuz I ride in the dusk sometimes.

Mmmmm, Wheels...

(I love Waterford too) I have Rolf Elan wheels and hubs on the Mondonico with Record and yes I like the clickability and being able to easily shift to any gear. It also is easy to reach, I have very small hands.

I worked with Troy Watson at Ligero Wheelworks in Tennessee for my wheels. http://www.ligerowheels.com I'm not sure what his turnaround time is right now, but it couldn't hurt to call him. I really enjoyed working with him.

My wheels were made with Velocity Aerohead (OC in the rear) rims, White Industries HI hubs and Sapim CX spokes. I rode them for the first time last Sunday and love 'em. They're smooth as silk. Cost was a little under $500, and they weigh a little over 1400 grams. I'm not sure how low you want to go on the spoke count, but one problem you might encounter with Campy is that the lowest (I think) spoke count hub you can get for 2007 is 32. That's one reason that I went with WI.

Congrats on the Waterford. I'm jealous!

Sounds like a lovely bike! I put Mavic Kysrium Elites on the Aegis Swift I had built up in 2004 (Campy Chorus - love it), and I have been very happy with them. No, they're not hand-built, but they're light and nice looking, perform well too. No complaints here! I also put on a compact crankset (FSA, Campy didn't make them then) and a Terry Butterfly with ti-rails, so we have some things in common. Enjoy your new ride and post pictures when you get her!
