I decided to begin pilates in January in hopes of having a stronger core by the time I hit the mountains with my bike this summer. I took a beginner class for a few weeks and then moved into a regular class. I"m glad I started slow and had a good understanding of the form and breathing. I take a very results oriented (hard) class 1-2 times per week and I'm amazed at the difference. My husband commented on my hard abs last night but the amazing thing is my performance in running and cycling.
I read the other thread about big thighs. Well, I have big thighs and although I don't have alot of fat on the rest of my body, my legs have significant fat over the muscle. I'm beginning to see a difference in the shape of my thigh which I haven't seen with anything else I do.
I've tried to find another instructor at a time that better fits my schedule, but the classes really vary significantly. Some were just relaxing and primarily stretching. I'm enjoying the moves that focus more on strengthening.
Give it a try if you haven't. s
