When you use the kind of tubes that have sealant inside them...if you get a flat does that mean the sealant didn't work or the puncture was too large or does the sealant not work immediately and you have to add air to make it seal? Does that make any sense what I'm trying to ask?

I'm a big fan of slime tubes. When you get a flat, just spin the wheel a few times. Depending on how big the hole is, the slime will seal it in a few minutes. Then just pump that baby up and go. But give it a little time before you add the air. I had a puncture on a front tire and the slime actually squirted out onto me. After I got off and spun the tire and sorta rubbed the spot, I was able to pump it up and finish a 75 mile ride. The flat happened in the 1st 3 miles. They work really well.

If you have a huge hole, the slime can't fill that--like a blow out.

Thanks! You explained it really well. Now I know just what to do. :)
I probably changed a tube that I didn't have to before just because I didn't get how it works.

During the Infamous Goathead Incident, there was slime oozing out of every little hole in the tire after we picked all the goatheads off. It was funny looking. Because there were just so many holes, I decided not to take a chance, and changed the tubes.

I don't know what goathead is or if we even have it here, but it sounds like something I definitely don't want to deal with. That must have been a sight! Good job taking care of that!

I must never learn or I'm going to learn the hard way. When I put the wheel back on I never remember to reattach the brake release. Isn't that crazy! Makes for a scary first stop especially when its always the back wheel. I guess I'm lucky I live where its very, very flat.
