I just got this email from Jeannierides's SO. I will keep everyone posted on any updates I receive. Poor Jeannie - she hasn't even been on her new bike yet. Please join me in sending healing wishes to her... -jane
Jane
This is email is from John, Jeannie’s SO. Jeannie was in a car accident Friday night. She has been in ICU with multiple fractures to ribs and pelvis as well as some other blunt trauma injuries. While her injuries are significant, none are considered life threatening. She will have to wait quite awhile to ride her new bike but she is in good spirits.
I would appreciate you help contacting the other ladies on this thread. Please post a message to let everyone know and I will follow up with info. I know she will need a lot of moral support. I will post a contact address for cards as soon as I can.
Thanks
John

I'm thinking about you. I've treated lots of people after accidents, some worse than others, and I know you'll recover well. It'll be a long road and you'll have ups and downs. Try to keep in mind the big picture, you will get better and cycling is great rehab, you'll be able to ride before you know it.
Take care and if you have PT/musculoskeletal type questions, PM me.

I hope jeannierides heals fast and can be on her new bike yet this summer. It is real sad to hear of any cyclist who can't be on her bike for any length of time. Hugs!!!

Thoughts and prayers (it's only a local call from here!)
Attitude is everything.
Fight, fight, fight!
Take all the pain meds you are offerred and if something doesn't work ask for something stronger. There is no point in suffering - it only depletes resources which are needed for recovery.
At least you don't have to worry about smashing up your bike!

Jeannie,
I'm so sorry to hear about your accident! What terrible luck. I appreciate your SO letting us know.
Although it may not be much comfort at the moment, after fracturing my pelvis in three places in April '05 and having surgery (6" plate, four pins in my right ileum), I was able to ride again that July (slowly), and completed a 50 mile event the following September. I also began hiking that winter. In '06 I hiked 18 miles in one day in the Grand Canyon, started mountain biking, and started running! So, never, ever give up even when recovery is slow and painful; the body has amazing healing properties.
I won't lie and say I'm 100% back to where I was before my accident. I have little tight areas and occasional pain that may be with me forever, but even given this "handicap", it's amazing what I can do. Keep your chin up and we will all be here sending positive, healing thoughts your way.
Big hugs to you!
Emily

Accidents are never good, but they are especially not good when they happen to one of "us". Be gentle with yourself and patient...you'll be back before you know it, jr!

Jeannie, Sending positive thoughts your way. Time to rest and let your body heal. I hope that each sunrise warms your heart and takes away a little more of the pain.

Hang in there Jeannie! You can get through this. But I am sooo sorry that you are hurt.
Your injuries sound very similar to mine and if they are I know you must be in lots of pain. Be patient and I do hope you are feeling better soon.
If it's any consulation....I don't remember a lot of it!

Nada at this point. IFJane told me she e-mailed Jeannie's SO but as of this afternoon when she had to go offline for the weekend, had had no response. Guess it can't hurt to keep sending healing thoughts through airwaves and cyberspace in the meantime...hope that will help!
Jeanie, I hope you have wonderful dreams while waiting for your body to heal.

I hope that somoeone can print these messages out and bring them to Jeannie. Warm healing wishes are headed you way!! I too had a very serious car/bicycle accident, as did my husband, so please feel free to PM me if you want any info./advice as you recover, especially from the PT, bike fit, etc. standpoint. The good news is you will get better and you will ride again. You may not feel that way now, but just take it a day at a time, and before you know it this will all be behind you. I hope we get an update soon on how you are, as well as more about what happened.
