ok, I finally got my new laptop. Big problem, I cannot view TE!!!! I have checked all my settings, they seem ok. Any other page I visit is no problem, lightning fast. Any experts in Vista out there, got to view my TE.

Maybe it's your browser. Try another web browser to see if that's what the issue is. Have you got your Java enabled?

Logdiva, I have the same problem with my Vista laptop. I emailed Jeff about it, but we couldn't come up with a solution.
I'm using IE 7, but also tried the latest Firefox, turned off all sorts of security settings, turned off all add-ins -- still no luck. I can't view either the forums or TE.
Very frustrating, since lurking on the forums and "window shopping" on TE are some of my favorite pastimes. And I haven't had problems viewing any other sites. :(

Could be a firewall setting because I think (not sure) that the TE site places a cookie in your system so that it can remember you when you access the site again from the same computer.
Try going to the Control Panel and from there to the Security Center. From the Security Center there should be a link to the Windows Firewall. Try turning the firewall off and then try getting to the TE site again.
You may need to reboot your computer after changing the firewall setting.
-CB
PS - I don't have to worry about the Windows Firewall because I'm using a computer that is already behind a secure firewall. If this is not the case for you it may not be prudent to keep the firewall turned off. I think you can log "exceptions" to the Windows Firewall and that may be a better option. But I'm not exactly sure how to do this.

What happens when you try to view TE on your Vista laptop?
Do you get an error message? Which one?
Does it start to display, but not render completely?

nothing, it takes forever to try to load. Once it showed the banner at the top and that's it. I tried the firewall thing, checked security settings all that crap. I did wonder about the browser, cause I know some of my fellow basketball refs could not get/load our scheduling page. Our webmaster said they had to go to internet explorer 1st, then load the page. But I am stomped at this one??

Logdiva,
I know this didn't work for AKA_Kim, but have you tried turning off the add-ins?
Here's an article from one of the Vista help sites:
If your browser locks up
While running with Windows Vista and using the native Internet Explorer 7 you'll frequently happens in pages that need to install some addins to improve your "browser experience". Part of this category is the Macromedia Flash Player, Java Virtual Machine and so on.
Sometime, after installing one of the add in what can happen is that IE7 stops working, non starting, starting in a frozen state and so on. If your situation happens to be like this you can start IE7 in a special mode "without addins".
To do so:
Mode 1: From you start menu go to All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools and you'll find a program name "Internet Explorer (no Add Ons)" and so you can start that
Mode 2: Write "about:NoAdd-ons" in the search text box of the start menu
Once started IE7 in the No AddOns mode goto Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs Tab and select "Manage AddOns", from here you can use the different options to explore which add on you're using, which are loaded and disable or delete them, until IE7 resume working.

Another weird thing to try with Vista:
Instead of entering the url (www.teamestrogen.com), try entering the IP address (69.30.47.28).
Hopefully something will work so you can be back to looking at TE!

I wish. I am going to download firefox, once I have transfered my music. Maybe that will help. DH could most likely figure it out, but don't want to bother him, he works 14-15 hour days, and I can still use his laptop to view TE. Tell you how it works/or not, later.

All, are you trying on IE 7? Seems IE 7 hid a few things in the advanced settings. Had a friend who couldn't get to pogo and after much re-installing and trying on firefox, turns out IE 7 by default turns off java .. niiiceee.
http://www.uwec.edu/help/IE_7/java-cookies.htm
try it and see if it works for ya.

my current dilemma with IE7 is it still wants to be my default when i click a link through yahoo messenger. i don't know why. i have firefox as my default and it says that, but for some reason it wants to bring up IE. i'm thinking about just taking it off my computer.
anyone have any ideas?

Get a Mac? Vista is pretty much a reverse-engineered version of Mac OS X. I have no problem seeing TE on my Mac.
And you can run Vista seperately (like in it's own little world where it's viruses can't harm your OS X) on a Mac if you need Windows for some reason.

did you try it on firefox? curious because that'd give an indication about if it's browser specific or osmething else that's causing the problem..

I've tried it on Firefox, with the same - or maybe worse - results. With IE7, after an interminable wait the banner and part of the page will display before timing out. With Firefox I get nothing at all. So the problem isn't browser-specific. And it's probably not a pure Vista problem either, since I can access TE from a Vista desktop at work.

I would guess there is a plugin that this board requires that hasn't been added yet. I don't believe it's IE7, cause I'm viewing from it right now.

sounds like it is more of a connection problem.
do you have slow internet connection or go through some special router?

I just remembered. When I first set up my wireless network for use with my laptop, it would not accurately access certain sites. I had to upgrade the firmware on my wireless router, which was easily done from the company website.

Tried on Firefox, nothing. I have highspeed comcast. No other sites are a problem.

do you have something like zone alarm or some other type of software firewall installed? could be prohibiting traffic to teamestrogen.com unless you explicitly ok the traffic.
something like this is what it sounds like since you are able to go to other sites but not this one.

logdiva32 and aka_kim,
I am having the exact same problem too! I got my new home desktop computer late last week and was weary of Vista but had to get with the times. TE is the only website that I can't view. It just hangs in etherspace. Firefox is my default browser, but it nor IE can view TE. I have highspeed comcast with McAfee as my firewall. Used ZoneAlarm with Win 2000 before and no problems. Tried changing all the settings... still nothing... sniff sniff whimper whimper...
Are any of your new computers a Dell by any chance?

I have a gateway laptop. I took it back to circuit city today. They are restoring all the factory settings since I bought the display model and they did no do it at 1st as they should have. The tech mentioned that they install some restrictive scripts on the display models that should be removed before sale. So I hope that works.

I've got a Gateway too, but it wasn't a display model. I'm also running McAfee...

I think something's changed at TE. I have it set to remember me on both of my computers - work's Mac and my PC laptop. Recently, though, I have to log in each time I access the site, even though I've clicked the 'remember me' box when I log in. Whassup with that?

up and running. OK I am running TE with no problems now. Circuit city reset to all factory setting, removed all scripts and admin rights. So I am good.

That's good news, logdiva! Do you know the details of what CC did - what scripts they removed? - what the factory settings are? I already have admin rights.

not sure. I would be willling to call and ask though.
Q: Where did you purchase from? Can you take it back and have it checked?
aka_kim
03-10-2007, 08:47 AM
I bought mine from Circuit City also. It wasn't a display model, but who knows what might have been done to it. Yeah, I guess I need to make a return trip.
logdiva32
03-10-2007, 09:42 PM
that is a interesting coincidence. Ask them to check the scripts, and reset everything, be sure to back up data before taking it in. They took care of mine for free. Kept it overnight though. Good Luck

I stumbled across a fix while upgrading the OS -- the McAfee Redirector service was causing the problem on my laptop. I haven't found any good information on what this service does, but turning it off hasn't caused any problems, and I can now use TE.

my home computer is still stuck without TE, but maybe i'll check out that mcafee redirector service...
