Yahoo - Got my confirmation in the mail today! I'm going to the Cindarella.

I'll be driving out on Friday from Arizona. Anybody else goin?

(OH, Wow, I just realized I haven't been riding my bike at all except for three days last weekend on a mountain bike in about 3 months!)

Guess, I better get my sitter ready for the hours on the bike. Hope it gets warmer and less icy between now and then!

I got my confirmation card, too. I knew I was in however, because they had cashed my check.

I'm riding with three non-TE friends. This is the fourth Cindy for us together. Not sure when we'll get started in the morning. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express Friday night and riding over to the start from there. Assuming TE has a tent at the expo, that would be a good place to meet up to say hello, either before or after the ride. We'll be the ones with tiaras (us and a few hundred others) :D :p :D

Keep your fingers crossed the weather gods smile down on us this year.

Holiday Inn sounds like a good idea, even some locals stay there to be near the ride start.

I can commit to AV gear, vest, arm skins for spotting Trek on the ride purposes. Of course if you see a Mondonico....it's me. I've heard it's only rained three times for the Cindy, last year was crazy.

Are we doing dinner the night before the brutal epic Cindy ride?

I'm in!! Got mine today as well. Not sure where we're staying yet. I don't know the area at all. Any and all suggestions are welcome. We should be in the area Thursday night.
As for me, if it's nice enough to wear shorts, you will spot me a mile away...

See y'all there. :D

Be sure to ask for the Cinderella rate of $69. Valley Spokesmen had it as $59 on their website, but that's last year's rate. I would suggest making a reservation ASAP. We're all local, relatively speaking, living in Santa Clara, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill. It's just so much easier to be right there the morning of. In the past, we got kind of crazy with decorating helmets, bikes, etc., the night before. It still have my tiara, but the rest gets in the way during the ride. My friend Shelley rides with a big blue feather boa around her neck and silver lame skirt and arm warmers :p

We always eat at Frankie, Johnny, and Luigi, too in Dublin.

This will be my first Cinderella, and after reading all your posts, it really does sound like a whole lot of fun. I am still recovering from a trip to Egypt and riding camels for five days in the desert, so I've not been on my bike for ages. Thankfully, there's still time to train a bit. Thanks for all your fun and interesting messages here.

We've met at ...oh, trying to find the link to the Mexican place on Park....but open to suggestions of any sort.

I'm not riding Cindy this year, but would love to meet for dinner the night before to catch up and meet some of the new folks! Not living in the East Bay I will be no help with deciding a place to eat, but just tell me when and where and I will be there :-)

I have my confirmation; but, I'm not sure if I'm up for it. Just getting back to riding after 6 or 7 year hiatus. Still working on my base miles to get my stamina back up. Right now I feel comfortable at 30 miles with hills. Haven't gone out for a 40/50 or 60miles and doubt if I can put that kind of time in between now and then.

What's the weather like in the past. and what is predicted for this year??

Can anyone tell me what the ride is like? number of hills, grade, length of the hill or better yet a cross sectional map showing distance and elevation of the ride.

I'm just not staying up on my training schedule. And not feeling too confident.

Thanks

The hills are minimal - a couple of long lazy ones, nothing steep. If you can do 30 with hills now, you will probably be fine at the Cindy.

I just checked out the Cinderella ride online. You are so lucky! I wish they had something like that around here. How many women do you usually get out for it? Are you ladies doing the regular 100km or the longer, climbing version?

Have a good time!

I'm coming...and I believe I'm in for dinner wherever.

I'm thinking of doing the extended version, but haven't decided for sure yet....anybody else up for it? I might race the next day, too, so I'll be taking it easy either route, to save the legs.

I'm doing the metric - Pretty much, I will be riding with little or no training this year. Too cold, too icy and not enough motivation to ride in that kind of weather. I've been riding for a long time so it's all muscle memory this time. My rear is going to hurt!;)

The metric for sure, the detour ..... I don't know.

Dinner the night before, anyone? Just say where and when.

A co-worker (my successful biking recruit) and I will be doing the metric. Not sure if I'll be doing the detour - I guess it depends on how I feel and if I make it by the cut-off time. We'll be driving down in the morning so I'll have to miss out on dinner the night before.

Hey, I'm up for dinner the night before. We should be pulling into the area early Friday and checking in at the Radisson nearby. I've never even been in CA before, so anywhere you ladies decide is great with me. Plan on two of us joining in. :D

Anybody got any advice on how to pack as far as weather, temps, etc.? Or should we just plan for literally 'anything'? Also, any advice on a warm up ride somewhere nearby on Friday? I'm gonna need and want to really stretch my legs after driving from PA. (of course, there will be some riding done along the way out) Is there a stretch of road along a beach, in a park or in the hills that we can get to? Maybe the Bay Area? All ideas are appreciated. Thank you ladies! :)

Deanna, Sorry that you'll miss the dinner. Say "hi Trek" when you pass me on the route. You ride a Raleigh, right??? Registration for this ride is a bit of a zoo. We skipped the whole section of pre-Cindy threads where we rant about that. ;) :D How could we forget?

I'll commit to wearing AV gear, even if the weather's good I'll be in tights and I'll be on the Mondonico so you can spot me from afar :D

Like you I'll see how I feel at the cut off.

Between missed spin classes, bad weather I feel up for the metric and hopefully on track to where I should be in June

But longer harder Cindy I don't know.

X and out of towners: Welcome to CA. If you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes. Dress in layors. Be prepared for headwind, don't linger at lunch because right outa the gate you'll hit headwinds so you don't want to be cold.

I'll be in my usual vest/arm skins/s.s. jersey combo unless it looks like rain then a light Craft jacket will do. My mistake last year was bringing a heavier Goretex jacket, it'd warm up and I'd be over heated or no good way to store it then just when I got that figured out...BOOM hail and wind .... I want something I can just zip up or down.

Dinner. We went to Fuzios the year before last. Italian, decent vegetarian selections, full bar, near the Cindy area for out of towners

whadya think?

Thanks for the info Trek. That sounds like FL weather. :o We need to get a list of some phone #'s together too since the two of us will largely be out of touch as far as the net on our way out there. That way if any changes happen with you ladies or us, we can communicate. I'm about to change my cell #, so when I get my new one, I'll PM a couple of you.

Now, any ideas about places to go ride on Friday? I really want to do a little touring if I can, biker style. I'm willing to drive an hour or two. I'm a 'stop and take in the view' type of rider so scenic is what I'm looking for.

Thanks :D

We always eat dinner the night before at Frankie, Johnny, & Luigi, Too, so I won't be joining all you wonderful TE princesses for dinner. Unless you want to make your dinner reservation at the same restaurant ;) .

We'll be staying Friday night at the Holiday Inn Express, so maybe we'll bump into each other in the halls or at breakfast on the second floor mezzanine - if you are staying there. I know what some of you look like from posted pictures, so if I see you, I'll introduce myself.

XRayted- One nice ride you can do in the area is the Iron Horse Trail. It starts in Dublin and goes north up to Walnut Creek. It's flat, easy and usually not well traveled. You can ride from your hotel.

Ask anyone where it is. I believe it starts off of Dublin Blvd, but I'm not sure.

As far as I know, yep. I've made reservations for 23, I told them I'll keep them posted if the list becomes larger or much smaller or we change our minds and want to meet in LA or ... that's a big one with me because I used to work in kitchens. When they have to turn down diners and then we don't show....it's bad.

I wonder what happened to the base? Anyway I hope it won't unhinge too many plans as many gals (with or without Prince Charming) got hotels near the start so's to ride there.

But the fairgrounds is nearby, I think the route passed it early on years past.

Out of towners, Alameda Fairgrounds Parking lot is unpaved, depending on weather we've had by then bring your cleat covers.

Unless this place is walking distance, I might need to bum a ride.

One of my group of six non-TE friends thinks she won't be riding afterall and her entry is up for grabs. If any of you know someone who could use it, please PM me and I'll make arrangements for the transfer.

Trek, can the rest of us join the ever burgeoning crowd for dinner? At this point there are five of us - five one, Shelley, Pam, Maren, and Lisa. I have also done my share of restaurant work and know how difficult it is to deal with large parties. Don't count on it. They did last year (and it's a very nice one) because it was the 30th Cindy I think. There are t'shirts and you get a patch.

To the best of my knowledge, jerseys are only sold on the anniversary years. Last year was 30 and the jersey was beautiful (but fits weird IMHO and I don't wear it much). They DO sell t-shirts, however, but I've never bought one. I'm not a fan of 100% cotton t's. Normally I just head over to the TE tent to see what's there. :D

BTW, one of the coaches from my old Silicon Valley TNT group - Jody Stowe - designed the Cindy patch again this year.

Hi,

I've decided to scratch the ride for several reasons. I was really looking forward to the ride but too many things got in the way.

So to all of you please enjoy the dinner and you all have a fun and safe ride.
I will have to miss the dinner too. I was looking forward to meeting you all.

HEY! I'm still riding - just can't make the dinner! I'll be there with bells on for the ride - I'll be wearing my Castelli Shorts with royal blue legs (makes my thighs look gigantic) and my royal blue and white castelli jersey, leg warmers (black), arm warmer (black); pearlizume violet colored vest in the morning; and of course, riding my very bright GIANT TCR with PINK (they call it magenta) fork and front part of the main triangle Carbon Fiber speed machine. I want to meet some of you gals - where shall we meet after the ride?

If TE doesn't have a booth, please meet at the lunachix booth. We should have something near the entrance to the expo (I hope!).

We will be giving away samples of the newest Clif blok flavors (http://www.clifbar.com/eat/shot_blok.cfm?location=shot): margarita, pina colada, and cola. Stop by and say hi.

And shout out if you see me on the road. Luna chix shorts and jersey, pink bike, red hair under a lilac helmet :D

Riders will start coming in about 11am. Last year I broke everything down about 3 or 4pm. 1pm was probably the peak hour but we have the full century this year so it's up in the air.....

p.s. no bar but you can have a pina colada blok on the house :p

Hey - how many of the diners are actually riding the Cinderella on Saturday?

Not this year... I haven't spend enough time in the saddle since Christmas for it. In addition, I think that I will be working all weekend trying to get stuff together for a conference that I leave for a week from Monday  The plus side is that the conference is in Australia, and since I will already be there for a week for the conference, what is two more for sight seeing and such :D

Ok. 7pm it is! I'll hopefully be there early and hang out at the Starbucks nearby (at least I think it was a Starbucks).

I'm wearing last year's Cindy t-shirt and I have my denim jacket on. Of course you know what I look like but there are others here that don't. :)

Knott, just one guy in the truck, the driver.

On the other hand....news flash, while the parking line moved slow once you got in .... 2 minutes tops to register. :) The Cindy organisers finally figure out to put a prince on each letter of the alphabet instead of one guy handeling A-N. Who knew it would be faster. How was everyones ride?

REI called last night that my Sidis are in, whish I had them today because I had shoe issues. Fabulous weather, magnificent, not even headwind....makes up for last year.

I'm pretty whoooped

The Cindy feels like a tune up ride for ALC, see how things are. I feel strong...but slow. At times I knew I was going up hills in harder gears than expected to be in and felt good. Thanks Spazzdog for suggesting I work on my core, and Knott for the stretches. But I feel slower than I'd like or expected.

I don't really have any data, it's more by feel.

If my feet had been comfy I think it would have been a reeeeeal good ride.

I decided to break out the Specialized road shoes, with smart wool socks. My feet were utterly killing me by the end.

I had a minor fracture of my big toe about a year ago, stil haunts me. Usually I wear Shimano ATB shoes.

By the end of this ride if there was a lake I'd have tossed the shoes in.

But my Sidis have arrived at REI, Snap says they are like putting socks on 8-)

I saw the results of 4 accidents:
* minor F.U. fall-I stopped and helped the rider up

* 'bent rider with minor scraped knee-I stopped to call a sag wagon but by the time I found the phone number...they were there. We were in the middle o' nowhere, it's hard to believe we're a bike ride from urban center. The back end of the ride particulary is beautiful.

* one wipe out on a downhill. Looked like a rider just lost control on swoopy downhill, ambulance came but i could hear EMT and rider laughing so I hope she'll be ok and....

* bike vs car. driver in hybrid stopped and looked concerned, rider survived and seemed ok but...what was she doing in the middle of traffic? The bike lane there is big enough for a compact car so even if passing...she coulda skidded...don't know.

Hi y'all! Ok, so a little story... Kit flew approx. 2600 miles to meet up with me, drove across country in a bouncy Jeep Wrangler, encountered all kinds of weather including torrential rain, hail, severe ice, and a bit of a blizzard. She had to put up with me the whole way, which in my opinion was the worst part of it all for her. We finally roll into Dublin, CA yesterday afternoon, unpack the Jeep, spend two hours cleaning unnaturally filthy bikes, run around getting things done and then go to dinner with the TE group. She starts with a chocolate martini (and a big part of mine of which I was not aware of at the time ) and hangs with Snap where they have a few lemondrops. (well, quite a few actually) I basically pour her into bed last night and she attempts to sleep. Of course, the lemondrops had other ideas and she spent most of the night fighting off puking. (Honestly, I can't believe she didn't puke.) So with a splitting headache and crippling nausea, what do I do to her???? I get her to come along to the Cindy. Now, I'm thinking she may just hang out and watch the event. I know I couldn't have ridden in it feeling like that.
Well folks, guess what? She not only rode in it, she finished as well. Kicked serious azz the whole way. Left me sitting still on the hills. (good thing there were some downhills so I could keep up) In the end, we were both happily exhausted and so glad it was over. As soon as we pulled in, Allezgirl was there to greet us. So, she and Kit finally got to meet.
All in all, a great day. So many firsts. This was Kit's longest ride ever and she did it hungover and on a heavy mtb. I just wanted to say how proud I am of her and I'm so lucky to have shared this whole crosscountry trip/metric ride with her. I am truly a lucky person.
We are in CA tonight yet and then tomorrow we load everything back up and head home to OR.
Thank you to all of the TE sisters for being so nice at the dinner. It was incredible to see so many of you in person for once. We ran into only one along our ride. She took good care of us a the last stop. I look forward to coming back next year and riding in the Cindy again. (without the lemon drops, Kit ;))

I had a great time last night meeting a bunch of you, and catching up with others! Glad you had a good time today, those that did the Cindy and just hung out at the expo.

Kit, I am REALLY impressed you did so well so hung over!

Me, today instead of working like I was supposed to, my roommate suggested that we go for a ride (she just got a road bike a couple of weeks ago). So we went and tackeled Old La Honda Rd. And we completed the whole thing without stopping once!!! WooHoo! There is a full ride report up in the March 31 ride thread if anyone is interested. Now this means work tomorrow.....

Had a great time last night, and Dita, thanks again for organizing!

Trek you refered to an accident where it looked like a Hybrid hit someone.... do you know if she was okay. This would of been on Camino Tassajara about 2 miles west of Blackhawk. She was about 20 yds infront of me when she just tipped over out of nowhere...going about 20mph+. No hands went out or anything, she just tipped and her bike buckled (stroke/passed out?). Her riding buddy was infront of her and didn't see her go down, I jumped off and dropped my bike and ran over. There was blood pouring from her head...not sure if it was her nose or not. We didn't want to move her. She started going into shock, covered her up with my extra shirt and then a nurse (rider) showed up shortly and was assisting. People called 911 and the emergency number...luckily there was no car coming in that lane. THe woman in the hybrid stopped to block traffic in that lane and was helping get paramedics there. I am just trying to find out if anyone had heard anything further...is she okay etc...
It pretty much blew the ride for me...my friends and I were traumatized and couldn't get back into the groove of things the rest of the day. We had been talking to her at the stoplights and stuff.... It is amazing how fast it happened. She was probably mid 50's and looked like an experienced rider.

The headwind section -- not so much a bear this year & I met a new friend along there (pic to come, next post).

She watched the riders passing by for a moment, and then came over for some free ear scratchin'. :)

I remembered this place from last year, so I was sortof looking for it. Looks like they were having a horse show there, so it was great timing (this looks like the practice ring -- riders weren't wearing coats or numbers). Total eye candy -- these are some NICE horses. Wowie.... :p

BikerZ and others (speak up on who you are -- sorry!) 2877
More forthcoming....

I think thats Mellisam & Ace?

Mimitabby, I told you my bike ran into two other Mondonicos on the ride (not literally, yikes), here they are. A champagne color with I think S&S coupler (? never seen that on a Mondonico before) and the orange you coulda woulda shoulda had   ;) Sorry for the poor photo quality....camer phone ya know.

In the last miles they passed me. Hey, if you're lurking here, say "hi" next time why dontcha, not too many of us out there. Also, you there with the champagne color Mondonico, your under seat bag is falling off ;)

Mellisam, I really should have let you ride my bike. We're the same height so it is required by TE cycling law you know**.

Next time for sure.

Resistance is futile to fully lugged steel, you will be assimilated.  ;)

** TE cycling law 504a.5. If the rider is 5'4" or shorter and your height, and you trust them not to run off a cliff or fly into a truck or bunny hop your road bike over a log .... and you have a bike they can't find often they must test ride.

mimitabby

Thanks for the photos Trek, that hot orange is gorgeous. colors like champagne don't do much for me though.

I'm glad you know about the bike tryout rule. We did quite a bit of that on our
first TE large group ride in Seattle, but not the second.

so,,, more pictures anyone??

Oh and then she, badger and bikemomma have to tell me horror stories of carbon bikes.

The lunatic in the hat gesturing strangely at Bikerz is me, and the more normal (may I say lovely?) unidentified person is Melissam. All I can say about that photo is that I hope I look even slightly better than that from some other angle (????).

I owe everyone an apology (although it sounds like most of you were too high on lemon drops to care :p ) because I was one of those HORRIBLE people I hate at dinner- had a work crisis come up right before I got there, so spent the entire meal typing madly on my Blackberry and rushing out to answer my phone. Still was very nice to meet you all, though!

I promise to behave better next time.

Oh, and I owe Bikerz and Melissam $2.06 each, I won't forget.

That's me in the first dinner picture in the white shirt - looking, but not feeling, rather glum. Also in that pic are my friends (non-TE-ers, as yet) Shelley, in the denim jacket, and Maren, in the black shirt. Kjay is to the right of me. In the next shot with Spazz is Lisa, another from my group, and Kit, in the yellow shirt.

It was a fun evening - and all I drank was iced tea :p ! Bikegoddess showed off an AV jersey to all and Snap promised that sometime in the future there would be ONE more order frenzy. Jobob passed out Sport Beans to all and we each got a "glass" slipper from Snap which is now on my bike bag. Thanks to both of you! Ace, hope your work problem got ironed out, but more importantly, I really hope your knee issue gets resolved before your trip to Italy.

I tend to lurk much more than post, but it was great to meet those that I did and attached faces to the names of those of you who are more regular posters.

I looked around at the rest stops and lunch for familiar faces, but didn't see any. We all look so different in cycling gear as opposed to street clothes. Helmets and sunglasses hide a lot. And, of course, many dress a bit crazy for the ride. Shelley sported a bright blue boa and silver lame skirt and arm warmers. Maren's helmet and Camelbak were decked out in yellow and orange feathers. We all had tiaras attached to our helmets. I only took a few pictures and am waiting for the ones others took to be emailed to me. I'll try to post them soon.

Did any of you see the woman with the latex backside, complete with thong, worn over her shorts? She was in front of me coming through Danville. Interesting "view" to have while riding along!

The weather was perfect and the after lunch Livermore Valley winds were managable. I hope all who rode had a great day.

What a special welcome to see so many TE gals at the expo when I finally rolled in. What a fabulous ride! I highly recommend the full century to everyone next year. Such a beautiful time of year; the hills were lush and green!

Seeing you all brought back lots of memories. I sure miss you all. I hope to join you all soon on a TE ride. How about May? I have three more centuries between now and then. I think I have gone a little crazy....

Kudos to the Cinderella organizers - registration was smooth and the signs were fantastic - especially on the Century portion of the ride. Whoo! I had never been up Patterson Pass - it gave me and my compact double a workout!

Oh gosh! What a beautiful day you gals had. Where's the envy smilyface? The weather here is like last year's Cindy just now -- rain, sleet, full gale headwinds in every direction. The only thing we're missing is the dead skunk. DH and I are wavering back and forth on whether to take the bikes with us out to Smøla (an island WSW of here) Wednesday. The forecast is worse and worse (from small gale to full gale to storm, rain and more rain) the next few days, but hey, it could lighten up before we head home again ...? Not?

I got to meet PaBadger..and turns out we just live a couple blocks from each other..

If you live near her then it means you live near me too. I know Ellen is in Palo Alto. I'm right on the Palo Alto/Mountain View border (on the Mountain View side). Near the corner of Rengstorff and Middlefield. :)

BTW, the pics from dinner look great! And I don't even look too much like a dork. :) The ride pictures are pretty awesome. Definitely not like last year. :)

I was there - rode with my friend Pat the whole way and some of her friends who did the 100. Just not up to the 100 with only 5 rides under my belt this year of only about 25 miles a piece. Pat's friends were real nice and all I had to do was hang out at the back for the first part of the ride until they went right and we went left.

It was nice to visit with my friend Pat. We probably left around 7:30 and got back around 11:00.

My knee was hurtin a little towards the end - typical for the first longer ride of the year - nothin bad. I actually survived a lot better than I thought I would!

Maybe I'll meet some of you the next time

Well, I did the Cinderella (metric) and had a blast! My first event. I trained with a group of women from my sports club. The training was great. I found the experience fun and felt very well prepared. The weather was perfect and the day glorious. Our group left early and got a fast start out.
I exceeded all my goals!! What can I say--I went from being a true beginner to learning how to ride in a group safely, to pace- lining, and learning about road safety. Looking forward to many more miles ahead....

Well, it's the Seattle contingent finally reporting in. We're back in the PNW and catching up on laundry. Trek, thanks for organizing the dinner, we had a great time meeting everyone. The ride was fantastic, well organized and lots of friendly folks. With weather like that, it was hard to head up north toward home and the rain.

Bikemamma, 'twas nice to see you on the ride as well!

So...what we want to know is, what are those little sharp seed-type things we found poking into our tires when we were loading the bikes back on our van at at the end of the ride? Luckily we were through for the day, but those things are wicked and while Ros. managed to pick 3 of them out of her tires without incident, I wasn't so lucky and ended up with a flat.

That small inconvenience aside, we're already planning for next year!
