watching my dog.she sleeps a lot.
random thoughts.if i wasnt here would she sleep so much or be on an eternal walk?
how much do birds sleep
are we a really wacky species that survives with minimum of this essential ingrediant and instead drive ourselves to work work, bike, the anguishes of love etc etc,i mean just step back and see how the animals cope.
then i thought about ants and they tend to zoom about ten to the dozen,do they sleep?
and the monkeys,i suppose our nearest and dearest, how many hrs kip do they get, wonder if its our recommended 8?

I work night shift . . . three 12 hour shifts per week. I am perpetually tired. I am awake approximately 26 - 28 hours straight twice a week. I am currently operating on about 5 hours of sleep mid-way through my two-night assignment. I am a nurse and I drive an hour each way to work at the hospital. I love sleep on my days off. I disappear into it. I anticipate retirement when I can sleep like "normal". My brain will be able to recharge the way it's supposed to.

I think for dogs, they tend to have periods of high energy interjected by long rest times. (Think about their wild cousins, they need to conserve energy because chasing their food is high energy and has a less than 50% success rate - like most hunters... cats are the same)
Birds sleep and rest all night (excluding nocturnals of course) - most of them do not have night vision. They have high metabolisms and need to be eating frequently- or catching/gathering food constantly if they have bubbas.
As for us?
We need more sleep as babies (16-18 hours sometimes) and less as we hit 50s, 60s, 70s... it is not uncommon for those around 70 to only sleep 4-5 hours at night with 1 or 2 naps during the day.
For me... well, when I got married we would both sleep 8-10 hours every night.
Then we had kids... I found that if I could get a minimum of 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep at night, I could cope with the day to follow.
Now I sleep about 7 hours a night, but usually wake a once or twice. I am teaching myself to be able to sleep in again - very hard to learn to do.
