OT: You know, it's weird that you can see a cultural difference in bikeframes. Like the frame you are showing would simply be 'not done' here in the netherlands. Nobody builds these kind of frames anymore and if you have such a frame it is labeled 'old' or 'old fashioned'. But they are still good bikes, I have a steel one myself (click for pixie here (http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n302/mimosa74/duell1.jpg)), it had been hanging in a corner for 10 years at my lbs (I paid 350 usd for the frame). He bought it once but never sold it. I use it for training purposes and it is not going away because nothing beats that frame in durability.

Mimosa, you are right, it is old fashioned. He designed it that way. it's a steel touring bike. As a matter of fact, he's going to do 200 km on saturday; and it turns out that one of the mechanics building the bike might go on the ride too.
There is a certain element, at least here in Seattle who really love the retro bike look.

His was commissioned in Sept or October! I didn't buy my frame until January and I was gambling that it would get HERE before his, not get DONE.
I'm going with R & E because I like them. Hey, I might change my mind.
I prefer the location of Elliott Bay Bikes (Davidson) R & E just act like they are hungrier, more eager to please.

DH got a big big bonus for his work after the hurricane Katrina, and he DESERVED it.. This is how he paid himself back for all the blood, sweat and tears for months of really unfun hard work.

What a beautiful bike, and it's nice that he dressed "formally" for the photo ;) .
I just love a lugged steel frame--so classic. Beautiful paint job, too.

He rode it home last night (8 or 9 miles) He said it rides like butter. That he could tell after just 1 block of riding that it was different than anything he'd ever been on.

Today he's doing a 200 km ride. (a permanent for those of you who know rando speak) It will be interesting to see what he thinks by then!

Not limited to Seattle at all though...there's a retro-lugged-steel lover's faction everywhere you go...including here in the Northeast as well (and of course in our house). Some people just gravitate towards things there are built carefully by hand the old fashioned way, that will last a lifetime or two, take you over varied country roads, and won't crack apart in a crash. ;)
