Bad Dog

I went shopping Friday night for my SS gifts and got everything all ready to go. I put everything in the envolope, ready to address and get off to the post office with plenty of month to spare!

But then......:eek:

I got home last night to find the envolope shredded and the carefully thought out gifts strewn around my bedroom. My dog had attacked the envolope and ate the chocolates! :mad: Well, thats a Lab for ya. I'll have to run out and do some more shopping (nice excuse:D ).

So, to my dear SS, your surprises will be on their way shortly!

Remember, chocolate is deadly to dogs. Luckily, your lab was big enough that she/he wasn't adversely affected by it.

thread-hijack...or is adding "bad dog" stories allowed?

we just got a new dog and i have been not allowing her in the kitchen...my husband (who sometimes is a weeee bit jealous of my bond with my little jack-chihuahua) asks "why can't Lucie (med size dog) be allowed in the kitchen??? and Ebbe (not one foot high) can???"

i say "cause Ebbe and i work well together and she does not get under feet...and i might as well nip this in the bud with the new pup!"

well...last nite...left the kitchen for not even a minute...and guess where dinner ended up??? YEP...in Lucie!!!!

hahahaha...DH now agrees with yet another reason to not allow the new pup in the kitchen! and i got to say in a sadictive, joking way..."Ebbe NEVER gets on the counter!!!":D

My Mayer's Parrot, ***loves*** chocolate :eek: . Think it's bad for dogs, it's very very deadly to birds (has to do with body surface area/metabolism and heart rate). But somehow she discovered chocolate and will attack for it - me, anybody with chocolate gets bitten. :mad:

Glad your dog is OK, hope she didn't acquire a vicious attachment to chocolate for the future.

now I know why I have cats and not birds. Cats do not care a jot for chocolate!
(I did have a cat once that jumped on the stove and pulled a small chicken carcass out of a pot that had been simmering to make stock! That same cat waltzed into the house with a pigeon flapping its wings!!!!)

My girl dog loves to chew on the base-board of our house. She'll stratch at it then eat the wood that falls. I have to put boxes up againist the wall so she doesn't get to it.

Our family dog, Delilah, once got up on our dining room table (don't know how, the chairs were all pushed in and she weighs 20-25 pounds, it is a far leap for her) and got into a pound cake that my mom had gotten for her birthday. Delilah knocked the pound cake off the table, got the container open, and ate all but a fist-sized piece. I was the 1st one home and saw the crumbs all over the floor and her bloated belly, and I knew what she had done. She was sick for three days and looked at us like we had done this to her. Incidentally, Delilah LOVES chocolate, and we don't feed it to her, but she gets into it occasionally and has never been sick. She's just special like that I guess.

Awhile back I used to have a golden named Honey and one Thanksgiving she got a leg up and started slurping out of the gravy bowl off the counter. Fortunately, we already got ours LOL. We took it away from her.

I came home once to find my 12 pound Jack Russell had eaten a 12 ounce bag of Dove Chocolates, foil wrappers and all. She felt just fine and quite satisfied, I'm sure.

Baker's chocolate is the type that you need to worry about. I made a frantic call to the emergency vet one night after my Heidi ate quite a bit of chocolate frosting. The vet on call said to keep an eye on her, but no need to rush her in if it wasn't baker's chocolate. She was miserable all night (ugh- doggie gas) but she survived just fine.

Heidi did have to have vomitting induced as a puppy when she ate an entire Kit Kat bar and WRAPPER! The vet was more worried about the foil wrapper than the kit kat. She also had a marble surgically removed, that came with a $400 bill. :mad:

Years ago I had a 150 pound Malamute who reached up and took the Thanksgiving turkey off of the kitchen island and devoured it without leaving a trace. Nothing like walking into the kitchen and seeing there is no turkey. Took me awhile to figure out what happened.

I used to buy canned cat food by the case and stack it outside by the back door. Then I got up in the morning and found cans with huge tooth marks in them and the insides sucked out. I eventually figured out it was a bear. I couldn't blame that one on the dogs because they didn't have access to that area.

Molly was a 65 lb coonhound that stole everything she could find to eat. If you turned for a second , your sandwich was gone. She stole a hot dog right out of a unsuspecting child's hand and took a roast off the couter and ate it.

Tyson was a 130 bullmastiff. He never ate anything unless it was given to him. Until I came home one day and went up for a nap without emptying my tupperware containers from my backpack. I had leftover fish that day. Tyson pull open my back pack, pulled everything out and chewed the tupperware open to get at a bit of skin inside. After that he would go after tupperware like there was no tomorrow. All my tupperware had HUGE fang marks in it.

Buster is my neighbor's Jack Russel he ate one and a half 10 to 12 ounce steaks in the back of the truck while my neighbor was driving home from the grocery store. She didn't even notice until she got home. Buster was pretty happy.

I love dogs. They do the cutest things.:D
