Well, I took the day off from work so I could go to the REI super clearance sale. I was not disappointed. I had longed for a pair of SIDIs and I was lucky enough to pick up 2 pair, one road (sidi genius 5 lorica), one mountain bike (dominator 5 lorica)...I plan to use the dominators on my commuter bike and when I get new peddles, the genius for my road bike. $75 each...I am soooooo excited. I am ashamed to say, I coveted these shoes...hoping to be able to hold out until the super clearance sale. They are 39's and I usually wear a 38, but they don't feel "too" big...ohhhh, I am so excited!!!!

I did pretty well at the online version of the sale at rei and reioutlet. Found an Ibex grappa Turtleneck ($23), a Shebeest Orbit l/s jersey ($25), and a pair of Keen Salem boots ($30). I was shopping at 7am EST, many items were gone not soon after!

Great steal on those shoes. I would love either pair.

Ditto Amanda's "waaahhhh"--the closest REI to me is a 5-hour drive to Atlanta, and I covet those Sidi Dominators.

Good for you, though, twin--what a find!!!

Are Sidi's really all that? What makes 'em so?

be happy you can drive. ;) its a two and a half hour flight for me and you don't even want to know what the plane ticket costs!

I covet those Sidi Dominators.

i was thinking about a pair too, though they aren't on sale online. what's up with that?!

I don't know why Sidis are all that. The ones I tried on just felt marvelous. I think it is because I have a narrow foot and they have a padded tongue. They just hugged my feet.

My DH got some for Mountain Biking as his second pair and couldn't stop telling me how fabulous he thinks they are.

i've been told they have a very stiff sole, and are comfortable. this comes from a guy though. not sure how the women's compares.
he said he use to have other pairs, and then he found sidi and wondered why he ever owned another pair.

OK, you win, CWR!:D
I've heard the same things about Sidis--very stiff and very comfy. Also, unfortunately, very pricey, which is what makes sbctwin's find so great. Good for you, twin!

I had logged onto REI at 5am and put the sidi road shoes in my shopping cart...when I went to checkout, they were no longer available. I had my eye on them since the fall when I saw they had the '.83' at the end of their price (code: we will be half off last price on super clearance, if we make it that long:D ). I watched as the 38's disappeared online and at the store. I had tried on the 39's last fall, so I knew they would be ok if that was what I had to choose from. Luckily, I had planned to go to the store, took a vacation day and was close enough to an REI. I was soooo lucky to find both sidis just sitting there, like they were meant for ME:p . If they don't show up online anymore, that means they sold out and what is left is this years model...

They had a pair of them in Rose, size 39 last night, at the closest of the REI's to you - NE Expressway location...

Hey Pedal Wench--Thanks for the tip, but with the price of gas what it is, the 10-hour trip would probably cancel out the savings on the shoes. Like my grandfather used to say, I can't win for losing.

I've got a pair of the Dominators and I just love them. I have to be extra careful how my shoes fit since I've got a skin graft that goes around the back of my heel. Any slippage or movement and that baby peels right open. I can't take the chance of that happening because I may end up with a bone infection in my heel. Also, I have a slipped metatarsal head in my left foot so I need comfy soles too. I also have limited movement in my left ankle due a drastic rearranging so the MTB soles are great for helping me keep control when I walk. When I was starting out and looking for good biking shoes, I tried on literally everything I could get my foot in. These were hands down the most comfy and form fitting shoes I came across. I looked everywhere for a sale or something and came across a new pair on ebay for around $75 in my size. If you can get them cheap, I say do it. Good luck ladies. :D

You'd think I lived in the boonies or something. I've never been to an REI (there's not one in the area).

I had never been to one either until last March when I visited the one in Denver....it was heaven! And yes, I spent way more money than I needed to!

We happened to go to our local REI after seeing the clearance announcement and picked up some good stuff. I bought a couple of light winter half-zips, one plain jane white technical fabric tshirt, a long-sleeved shirt from prana with cool texture/fabric (synthetics), and a snowboard. $400 later... ;)

Somewhat off-topic but related:

The sizing of the items I bought is bizarre. Extra-small REI tshirt (close fit for undershirt wearing), small and medium half-zips (one REI, one from another brand, fit snug but not tight), large long-sleeved shirt (the Prana, fits very snug but not quite skin tight). WTF? Sizing has to be my pet peeve as of late. At the conference I went to last week, they had unisex jackets, and I had to get the extra small which I am still too small for. They had to go dig it out of a small box in the back of their little cave, where the XXLs were displayed prominently. Pants are driving me nuts, too. ARGH!

Okay, rant over. REI rocks. :D

I ordered some socks and a merino sweater from the sale. Projected delivery was the 20th. But according to tracking, it's arrived at my local P.O. today! Happy Valentine's Day to me.
