View Full Version : Mystery Noice

I purchased a new Trek 2200 about 3 months ago, and there is a noise I cannot figure out coming from the front of the bike. It sounds similar to creaky floorboards. It's especially loud when I'm standing to get up a hill. The really strange thing is the noises are especially noticeable when it's warmer out--almost no noise in the morning and then lots of creaking in the afternoon.

I've made sure everything is tightened down and well lubed and it's still there. Does anybody have any idea what this is? The bike is a combination of aluminum and carbon--could those two materials be rubbing weird?

Any clues would be appreciated!

Are you using clipless pedals? That's the exact same sound my husband had with some very creaky pedals. It would be fine at first and the more he rode the more they creaked. Standing to go up a hill was the worst. You might try a shot of lube on them before your next ride and see if that eliminates your creak.

Stephanie,

Thanks. Yes, I am using clipless pedals. I'll give that a try. It sounded so close to the front I guess I was checking the wrong part of the bike.

Ditto the clipless pedals. Mine do the exact same thing - get worse when it gets warm, etc.

I put some lubricant on my pedals and the noise has diminished substantially. Thanks for the tip! Now I don't sound like a creaky boat sailing down the road.
