im posting this on behalf of a comoputer illiterate friend,she slipped on ice in december,fractured her hip and is recuperating at home.She is walking on crutches 4 1/2 miles a day (star)and started to swim a bit,her angst is the level of muscle mass and fitness she will be losing,ive reassured her but said id ask amongst you lot,i told her you were all "awesome"and positive....she did mention now was the time for her to get au fait with the internet,watch this space!

She'll lose some, but it'll come back quickly.
(and I hope she's not using U.S. style crutches for those long walks!) Swimming is great, since the water supports the unhappy joint.
Really, the muscle will come back quickly once the bone is all healed up.
