I had three workouts within a 12-hour span last weekend. On Saturday evening I had a swim clinic with my tri club and followed it up by a 10k run. I had a light meal before going to bed and at 6am in the morning, did 3 hours on my bike. I felt strong in my workouts and didn't bonk, but looking back at my journal/HRM, I realized I expended 3,100 calories, while taking in only 1000 calories during the same time.

I refueled afterwards on carbs/protein and got some calories back in, but haven't felt right since. Other than an extreme craving for chocolate cake (which is unusual since I don't eat sweets and haven't had choc cake in years) I seem to have lost my appetite. I am also feeling tired and lethargic, and my resting heart rate seems to be elevated.

Not sure if this is an after effect of my workouts, or if my body is fighting off a virus (which it feels like). Anyone else experience this?

Remember - the workouts that you do are only good if you have rested in between. Sometimes, rest is the key to training. So be careful when you plan your workouts so that you have sufficient rest days or all the working out that you do can be counterproductive. Your symptoms could be because you are coming down with a bug, overtraining, or both; so take a good rest and make sure you are feeling good before you do another hard workout

Bluetree, there are lots of reasons you could feel this way, and the most obvious possibility is overtraining.

I went through a bout 2 years ago of feeling like this over and over. Turns out I can't tolerate Ginger...and every time I felt yucky like I was getting a bug, I'd eat more ginger to kill the bug. I was poisoning myself.

Fast forward to this year...different symptoms led me to seek a diagnosis again, but in a new city with a new doctor we looked at other things completely. Turns out I have Crohn's disease and it looks like ginger is just one of my intolerable foods.

All that said, you probably don't have an incurable disease!! But you could have a number of things that are worth checking....so, if this keeps happening, even when you believe you are fueling and resting enough for your exercise load, please see a doctor and at least check some basics! Your health is soo important, so please don't let it be a guessing game!
