on the radio today there was a chit chat about some research Batchelors cupa soup or someone had done about hugging.
(i wont get this 100% correct as i was driving but)
the best one apparently is from behind when you dont expect it.like when you are washing up - well i hate that!!!!makes me jump:mad:
there were bear hugs and cheek hugs, and some explanatioin which i think said if you brush the left cheek it reaches the right side of the brain which is the lovey duvey side, and .......shute,there were 5 sorts anyway.
20 secs hug a day,5 portions of fruit and veg and life will be good!
aint hada hug for adges, but the sort i like best are the encompasing sort, strong,i give very very strong hugs.........i love my dog n she loves me but she doesnt have 2 arms and i miss that, licking my face just doesnt hit the right "spot"!!!!
so whats the verdict amongst you lot?
I think I would die from "skin-hunger" (a term I learned in psych class) if I didn't get loads of hugs a day. My SO is very huggy so that helps quite a bit, my co-workers (all women) tend to hug a lot as well.
I hate being hugged from behind too! At least a lot of the time. It takes away my chance to signal if I want to be hugged or not... and if I'm doing the washing-up or some other chore that I dislike I get VERY antsy if I get hugged so I can't move. Makes me feel trapped.
On the other hand, mostly I love getting hugs, and I wish I were much better at giving them than I am. It gives some weird behaviour - one drink and I start holding and patting peoples shoulders, two and I start hugging all my friends. Which is nice and all, but I'd prefer it would come naturally sober... ;)
I'd like to be like some of my male friends, who are the best huggers ever - big bear hugs that are enormously comforting and friendly, but don't trap you or feel awkward. Funny.
Right, I'm going off to work on my hugging skills :p

I LOVE hugs, dh is a great hugger. And my neck hair stands up on end whenever I am doing dishes and he walks into the room, because I know I'm usually going to get a hug, and probably kiss on the back of the neck. :D

One of the things about not having a boyfriend that stinks the most is no hugs, cuddling or snuggling!
*in a small quiet voice* I actually LOVE hugs from behind, but only if I'm not startled.
I love the Free Hugs thing! A few girls did that here, even. I think I collected 3 or 4 of them. :p
Hugs are the best. All kinds. Especially with my honey

Same here, I startle easily so my SO knows to make some sort of noise upon approach...otherwise I jump about a foot into the air (sorta spoils the moment ;) ).

I like hugs, especially from people I know and care about. I'm never quite sure what to do when I meet one of those folks who hugs instead of shaking hands.
SKnot doesn't like me to hug him like I used to (he's a teenager now) but he GIVES hugs all the time. If I'm feeling bad, he'll say "hug!" and stretch his arms out for me. He's such a nice guy! I hope he stays nice as he goes through the rest of his teenage years...

That is so sweet! My co-worker has a five year old girl and a teenage boy (13 I think), the little one will throw herself into your arms for hugs but the teenager does this head nod and then ignores you...it makes his mom so sad that she can't cuddle him anymore.

Hugs..hugs & more hugs I say! :)
I love being hugged. Ian & I hug eachother every day with no definite number allocated.
I send my mom hugs over the phone. I can't wait to see her again so I can give her a big hug as she needs them!!!

Aw. Just keep hugging him, even if he might push you away sometimes.
The poor guys need it so badly sometimes, and they just don't know they need it. I've felt my angry, insolent, hormone-driven teenage boys melt when I've hugged them, and it changed *everything*.

I adore hugs... and y'know, I like being hugged from behind while I'm doing something. just don't surprise the hell outta me or something, but to feel someone behind me, then wrap their arms around me? mmmm. As good as velvety chocolate for the soul. :)
I'm a hugger. I love cheek hugs. Subtlety is lost sometime, on some people, but when you're meeting someone you love deeply after having missed them a long time, there's nothing like a cheek-brushing hug that goes into one of those long, extended hugs. I'm right-side oriented, though... but then you get the benefit of whispers in the ears and things, too. :)
a 20 sec hug is good... also a 10 sec kiss a day does wonders for you. that is a very, very long kiss. Go try it. I'll wait... ;)

Here's a virtual hug for you, inatree. It's the best I can do for you from here.
Yes, I consider how lucky I am every single day. And when it comes to hugs, I'm in the super lucky category, with a DH who loves hugs, and two huggy, loving border collies, and two cuddly cats (even though one only cuddles when *he* wants to).
May 2007 be the year that you find more hugs for yourself!
Hugs and butterflies,

Awww, inatree, I wish I could give you a hug! I DO know how lucky I am, having a DH to hug daily. Do you have any pets you can cuddle up with? Pets may not be able to hug, but they can cuddle nicely!
Well, maybe not lizards...
Virtual hugs,

Inatree, I'm sending you hugs too. I love hugs and I love to give them. Like Kit, I don't mind hugs from behind and I'm right side oriented on hugs from in front. I'm really lucky because not only do I have DH to hug but I also have a job where I often get hugs at work!! I love hugs and I have lots to spare so Inatree:
(((((((((((((((((((((((((huge hug))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Inatree, you need to change your .sig.
"You have been weighed, measured, and found hugged."
Here's one from Norway too (a really cold bundled-up one)!
