Rain Jacket Advice

Can someone give me advice on buying a rain jacket. I want something that breathes but is waterproof. We don't have freezing temperatures here - even in winter it might only get to 0 degrees (cent). For warmth in winter I can rug up with layers n' stuff, but I really just need something to pull out for when I get caught in a shower, and also mainly to protect my clothes from road grime.

I'm looking at a Netti D3 jacket at the moment. About $200 AUD. Its a mens but that's okay. Good thing is its got zip off sleeps, front panel air flow thingy, breathable but waterproof and windproof etc.

Anyone with experience with this jacket or similar?

I highly recommend the Showers Pass jacket that TE carries (the gold/black one). Of all the rain jackets I've owned (Craft Mingo, Gore Bike jackets, and the Gore Xeon jacket), the Showers Pass is the best in all categories: rain protection, breathability, etc.

Thanks! It looks a good one actually. How did you go for sizing? I had a look at the chart but I always worry bout measurements! :D

I second the recommendation for the Shower's Pass jacket - I've been very happy with mine.

As far as sizing goes, I usually wear a medium in a jersey, but when I compared the measurements of the jacket I could have gone with either a small or a medium. I chose the small, and I'm very happy with it. It still has enough room for me to add warm layers if needed.

What's it like in terms of light weight packing on a several day tour? Is it heavy? Can it roll up small like some of the rainresistant/windbreakers to fit in a saddlebag?

it is very light indeed. It would roll up nicely and fit into a size of two fists, I would say.

I also agree that the Showers Pass jacket is awesome! I have the slightly older version of the one TE sells (it looks the same but the names are different) and I love it. My husband and I both ordered them and when they arrived, I was convinced the order was screwed up because the envelope was way too light to be 2 jackets. I was wrong! The jacket is extremely light, totally waterproof, and when worn with insulating layers, kicks butt as a winter windbreaker as well. It'll roll up amazingly small, too.

UK Elephant borrowed my Novara Conversion jacket for a ride in the rain here at Xmas. I've liked the jacket but hadn't tried it in the rain. She said it worked perfectly, kept her dry, ventilated and warm all at once, fit well over a fleece sweater, good range of motion, good length. I have the Novara Express jacket which is comfy and flattering. Haven't had to try in a real rain yet. It folds down to fit into it's back pocket. It also comes in larger sizes.

I received a Shower's Pass Elite jacket for Christmas from my husband. I have to agree with everyone here -- it's AWESOME.
