Several months ago, I put out a call for good karma. My mom who is my best girlfriend, has been fighting ovarian cancer for 3 and 1/2 years. To date, she has had 32 chemo treatments. She rarely complains no matter how hard it gets, she just fights.
In Nov we were waiting to find out if the cancer had spread, hence the call for karma. The cancer has spread to her lungs.

The new chemo treatment started last Tuesday. She will get it every week for three weeks and then one week off. They warned her that it was going to be bad, and it is horrible. She is really sick. And feeling a bit down I suspect.

So here is where you guys come in. I thought that we could send out some good karma again, and I will send her the link, and let her read the messages. She is in Colorado, and I am in NJ, so it makes it tough to cheer her up.

So, Want to help???

You guys would love her, she is little and fiesty, and bikes and skis and hikes. She would fit in around here just perfectly. Her name is Ruth, just like me.

So send it our way ladies...we could use a boost right about now....

Thanks,
Ruth

Ruth,
My sincerest wishes go out to you. I know you've been fighting for a long time, but don't quit now! Keep up that fight! You've one week behind you and just two more to go. Hopefully, the chemo treatment will work well for you.
You have a great daughter. Unfortunatley, I dont' get to see her to often. But she truly is a great person. I'm sure she got it from you, too!
Take care.

Ruth,

I work at a Breast Care Center, but the ovarian cancer patients get their treatment in our infusion area......hang tough, Ruth. I have met a lot of women, who I suspect are getting treatment similar to yours......make sure you let your doctor and nurses know all about ANY side effects you are experiencing. There are lots of medicines to help with those nasty side effects. I know plenty of women with ovarian cancer (with mets) who have been fighting the good fight for many years....don't give up!!!!

I am sending good, positive healing thoughts your way!!!!

Ruth, you sound like one fiesty and tough cookie! Keep up the good fight- it's one that only you can fight, but one that we are all here cheering you on for. We're behind you all the way! When you're getting treatments, and you're feeling badly, we're the silhouettes and shadows in the corner whispering shouts of cheer, encouragement and love. We love ya!
Go, girl, go!!!! :D
Cancer is a terrible, disgusting, evil, and microscopic bottom feeder that has no place in such a strong, tough, wonderful, sweet woman such as you! Kick it to the curb! ;)

By the way, my mom, who is battling breast cancer, sends her love. She says she knows of the pain you are feeling (of sorts). She sends her well wishes and healing vibes. Stay strong, and stay positive! You're a fighter!

Sending best wishes to Ruth. Same name as my grandmother, by the way, who in spite of a bout with skin cancer lived to be either 3 months short of 100 or 9 months over, depending on which birthdate one believed.

Now if the well wishes of bike-riding lady strangers isn't enough to get your spirits up, we also have a humor forum. Long as you're on line, why not go there and browse for laughs? http://forums.teamestrogen.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44

I have sympathetic nausea reading this!

I have had chemo and it is hell. Especially as you get cumulatively weaker over the course of the treatment. Take care and keep yourself in good enough shape to continue to receive the treatments.

Every living thing has one purpose - to keep living. Us too. We must just keep fighting to live. Whatever.

My maternal grandmother was American, and called Ruth too! And she was a lot like you, I think, small and feisty, stubborn and very funny, behind her outwardly sweetandkind housewife persona.

I'm cheering you on, and I'll bet "my" Ruth is too! :)

Dont have any practical advice to add, but hang in there Ruth! And when you have the energy, read TE posts.... some are funny, some are sad, some are just fascinating... they are never dull :D and they might help take your mind of the nausea for 1/2 hour or so.

sending you lots of good vibes, from me and the dog (who wishes she was there to make you feel better :) cos she just loves being around people :D )

Hi Ruth. I don't think there is anything I can really say to you that will help to make this easier. While it is comforting to a degree to know that people are pulling for you and wishing you well, the battle you face is more in your mind than in your body. I can't imagine the pain you feel, and thats asiide from the physical.

I have an Aunt who was diagnosed with rectal cancer. She has had multiple bouts of chemo and eventually had surgery to remove her intestines and rectum. She now is a "proud" owner of the dreaded bag. As well, cancer was found in her lymph nodes, so she faces the potential for more radiation and her spirit dwindles everytime she empties the bag or thinks about what can still be lurking around the next bend.

Whether or not you belive in God, the fact that we have life means we are special. And the fact that you are fighting this disease means that you are special. Where there is life there is hope. And I am a firm believer that we can overcome.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Go get 'em, Tiger.

Tho it sounds like you are being strong. I just want to remind you that you can never give up!! I had to go through a regimen of anti cancer drugs a few years ago and I was told that the side effects were just like chemo. I vividly remember how ill I was, and how depressed I got. But I want you to know that there are people all over this country- the world actually (we are one BIG family here at TE) - that are pulling for you. There will be many prayers from many faiths spoken for you.
Please consider this a big ((((((((((HUG))))))))))))) from not so sunny Arizona.
My prayers are that you stay strong and get through this.
Go get em Ruth!

Ruth x 2,

Cancer is a terrible thing, but it's a beatable thing. We're all sending you blessings and that amount of posative energy has gotta help. And with a fiesty little thing like you (doesn't matter which one we're referring to at this point) to take advantage of this posative energy, I'm sure you'll fight a great battle and beat this nastiness.

Every morning I do a meditation where in I send blessings out to people in my life, you've been officially added to my list.

Dear ruth(x2)

A long post...

I just want to say no matter what, please don't give up. I've never battled a major illness however can understand one must fight & keep fighting with all you've got. From the sounds of it, you've fought & kept fighting however there must be some more fight within. As Roger Taylor of Queen once wrote "Fight from the inside, you can't win with your hands tied"

I'm cheering for you down here in Perth, Western Australia and am sending warm sunshine your way. You're in my & all our thoughts.

Ruth you are lucky to have a wonderful mum. Ruth you are very very lucky to have such an amazing daughter who cares about you & will be there until the sun sets.

Sorry for such a long post.

A couple of songs for you dear:

Eye of the Tiger-Survivor

Risin' up -- back on the street,
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive --
So many times, it happens too fast,
You trade your passion for glory,
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past,
You must fight just to keep them alive –

*It's the Eye of the Tiger,
It's the thrill of the fight,
Rising up to the challenge of our rival,
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night,
And he's watching us all
With the Eye of the Tiger.*

Face to face -- out in the heat,
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds still we take to the street
For the kill, with the skill to survive --
( * Repeat)
Risin' up -- straight to the top,
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive --

Don''t give up-Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush

Don't Give Up

in this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose

don't give up
'cos you have friends
don't give up
you're not beaten yet
don't give up
I know you can make it good

though I saw it all around
never thought I could be affected
thought that we'd be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn

drove the night toward my home
the place that I was born, on the lakeside
as daylight broke, I saw the earth
the trees had burned down to the ground

don't give up
you still have us
don't give up
we don't need much of anything
don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
where we belong

rest your head
you worry too much
it's going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don't give up
please don't give up

'got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
keep my eyes down below
whatever may come
and whatever may go
that river's flowing
that river's flowing

moved on to another town
tried hard to settle down
for every job, so many men
so many men no-one needs

don't give up
'cause you have friends
don't give up
you're not the only one
don't give up
no reason to be ashamed
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up now
we're proud of who you are
don't give up
you know it's never been easy
don't give up
'cause I believe there's the a place
there's a place where we belong

Hello, Ruth! While the chemo is terrible, you'll feel better so quickly. Hang tough and give the nurses some trouble (because you can).

I live in CA but I'll be visiting CO in 3 weeks (Golden and Colorado Springs). Where are you located? I'd love to visit if I'm in your area. We can compare battle scars.

Ruth... you are in my thoughts too...

Cancer Can Not

Cancer is so limited...
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot invade the soul.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the spirit.
It cannot lessen the power of
the Resurrection.

Well,
First, if you did not see my thank - you, well then thank-you. This thread was a huge boost for my Mom.

She just finished the first cycle of the new drug. Week one was horrible, week two was better. they gave her some miracle drug to help fight the symptoms. It is great, but the script, even with her coverage is 240 dollars for 24 pills. Ouch!!! Week three was so/so. I suspect she is not taking as many pills as she should.

Sorry Mom...had to rat you out.

This is her off week, and they headed to warmer climate to get a break from the brutal cold in CO.

I will make sure she checks the thread again.
