Red for Valentine's Day... or Red as favorite color?
If it's favorite color, perhaps TErs can indicate what color it is. Red just happens to be mine (no pun intended) so I love the idea. :D
Thanks for doing this Canuck!

Sounds like a great idea, Canuck! I've been out of the SS for the last month or so, so eager to get back in. Thanks for volunteering to organize.
Theme suggestion: Mardi Gras/Carnival? (Ash Wednesday is 21 February.) I don't even know whether this season is celebrated in Australia, but here in the southeastern U.S. (mainly along the northern Gulf coast), Mardi Gras activities have already begun, and the purple-green-gold color scheme is cropping up everywhere (see my avatar). Hmmm, not sure how that relates to cycling, but we could use the color scheme or the traditional beads-and-feathers decor or anything else that's wild and crazy, according to the Season of Misrule.
Just a thought. In any case, I'm sending a PM as we speak.

Hey CC - you beat me to it! How about "from the heart"? Anything homemade or near and dear to your senders heart (a hobby, person, charity, about hearts, etc?). I'll pm you.

Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive, but I think if I got a bunch of heart items I'd be quite sad. Valentine's Day is going to be tough to me. I ended my engagement 4 months ago. But red items would be OK.

I have to confess something-
I love giving (and getting) gifts just as much as the next person. But I'm a little hesitant about doing SS again because it seems (or is it just my imagination?) the number of items bought and the expense is getting more and more abundant each month, and now it's common to photograph displays of all the goods recieved as well. I DO understand how much fun it is to shop and send and get goodies (believe me i DO!), but if SS shopping and sending becomes too daunting or expensive or competitive, I fear there might be more people putting off sending their packages because they don't think they have bought enough things yet, or just not participating in the first place. (Just a thought, not trying to spoil the fun) :o

I liked seeing photos, which is why I posted mine this month. I did not even think it might be upsetting :o so I apologize and shall remove mine.
As for gifts getting more expensive? I do not know. I tend to spend within the given limit, due to my personal budget restraints. I am not bothered if someone receives what appears to be more than I send or receive. I send what I can and each gift is purchased with my heart. All I hope for is that whomever has me does the same, picks something from the heart.

I had a lot of fun putting together the goodies for my January SS, but I do agree with Lisa and wonder if it's getting a bit out of hand. This was the first month I participated, so I'm not sure what has happened in the past. I would like to hear from someone who has been around since the fun began. What's the history? Is there a $$ limit? I wonder if more would more participate if we exchanged just one item that fit the theme of the month and stayed within the monetary limit? I'm certainly willing to to so.

It's not "upsetting", Jennifer- don't worry about your pix! :)
I've spent within the suggested $20 limit a couple of times, but my packages seem so meager compared to some. It's all about doing it from the heart, as you say. But I'd hate to see people get discouraged from participating if they get the idea that they have to send a big selection of stuff.

I am sorry, I posted the photos the last two months because I am not visual. I LOVED when Clockwork Orange posted her lovely gift as I never would have understood all the neat items she enjoyed. It is not about bragging or encouraging people to send more. I just love seeing the creativity on the board. Like BMO3 I never thought it would hurt someone, I am going to remove my photos.
I believe $10-20 is a wonderful gift. The best gift is the ones I have received that were so personal. Someone took the time to make me a ride calendar, it is lovely and I am enjoying it.
The old cliche is true: "It is the thought that counts". That is what I strive for each month, not a $$$.

Count me in for the colour but not the homemade.
(unless I get an AUSSIE... in which case I can make my now famous Non-dairy chocolate dipped gingerbread!!! that would never get overseas. The parcel would be stuck in customs for six weeks in which case the cookies would be off.)
Anyway. COLOUR COLOUR COLOUR!!!!

Yeah, I've been getting a little stressed, thinking "I tought it was $10-20 limit and there's an awful lot of fancy stuff folks are getting." So I try to keep things within that limit (sometimes, shipping puts me over that, tho'), and I feel stingy, but I know I shouldn't.
So, let's stress the "don't go too crazy, folks" and I'd be up for red and heartfelt, too.

Mmmm.... like yummy cocoa mix.

Ummm my main stumbling block is the freakin postage!!! I try to keep the cost down but the post office folks just want to see me cry each time i send a package..
Just another thought here ladies-I thought of the RED theme as I think February is "heart month"in support of the Heart foundation..i think???
So, pink/red-blood, heart..understand? I don't mean send valentine type things as that's just overrated/boring.
Perhaps this month send something that supports a local business/craftperson/etc or something homemade..IE.from the heart..
I sure hope in a roundabout way you understand my thought...

I had trouble finding this thread since it was buried, if anyone's interested in Feb SS you've got 6, count 'em 6 days! (Okay, 5 if we're going by DownUnder time ;))

One time I had to postpone my sending cause buying the gift wasn't a problem but I had to save money for postage. You should seen the face of the women behind the glass when I said ...How much money?! , thank you very much, I'll come back when I receive my paycheck :o
But received gift always cheers me up so it's worth it. I make a pause sometimes when it's too much for me. But if it's home made I'm in. I love doing stuff like that ;)

I'm stuck on what I can make for my ss. I'm not creative..:( I want to find some Australian material to sew something but i don't have a sewing machine plus I don't know how to sew and need to know what I could make?
Help..:o Bike related ideas would be helpful...
What about a collage of beaches in Western Australia? :)
Anywho, if you're reading this: the theme is from the heart- home made or something similar.
Crazy-needs lots of help with this one-Canuck...

The gifts don't HAVE to be homemade, do they? I think that's just suggestion, right? The other idea is something from local craftspeople, artists, etc.
I can be pretty crafty when time allows, but just now, it doesn't. We've got some cool local artists though.....

I have to say i felt quilty too. I made with love a warm wooley hat for my Jan ss. (she already knows it's me) I had to send it to Over sea's so i knew I needed to watch how much i sent weight wise. When I got my box from my SS it was amazing. But I felt quilty i had not done the same for my SS over sea's. It would have cost me a fortune. And the whole customes thing. So I had to watch it. I think as long as every one knows that we are all doing what we can that should be fine. I won't post any pic's either. I just wanted to share with you all what a big heart my ss has.

Hey kids,
I've sent most of the names out but am just checking a few things. Please don't panic if you've not received a message from me yet. All is well in the world of SS's.
I tried to re-read some of the older SS threads to see if (insert name) has had (insert name here) but it was quite a task
I tried :o and please don't be mad :( I've checked & re-checked my sent messages to confirm i haven't sent you your own name....:o
All the names will be out by monday night my time..
Remember the theme is homemade, local artist item, from the heart etc. Have fun !
If you're behind the 8 ball & will be a smidgen bit late with your package, please please let me know :)
Thanks
C
