Bunk off work

Just wanted to tell you all about my day last week. I'm currently doing a diploma by correspondence and it's tough going when you work full time too.

Last week I was all stressed out trying to fininsh and assignment and decided the night before I'd bunk off work the next day.

And what a day it was!! The weather turned out to be fantastic and even before I 'd ridden half a mile up the road I felt better. :)

The countryside & fields were all green and there was loads of blossom in the hedge rows, and I think it may well have been national -bunk-off-work-to-ride-your-bike day because I saw quite a few other riders while I was out.

There was only one hairy moment. When I got back I was worried my face might give me away. I'd told work I'd got a migraine and was terrified I'd have to go back to work the next day with mysterious healthy tan to my cheeks! Luckily the Factor 10 did it's work and I got away with it. :p

Anyone else got any good bunk-off stories?

I’ve never heard the term to “bunk-off work” but in context it’s quite obvious what it means!!:p I bunked off work early on Friday. I didn’t have much work to do in the afternoon and a friend called and asked if I wanted to go for a little ride. I took my hard tail out for a 15-mile joy ride. I don’t ride my hard tail too much. I think its purpose in life is for me to fully appreciate my full suspension bike! But it was a good ride. The weather was perfect. And cycling is better on company time!:D

self employed here, it's easier than you know to "bunk off" for a ride. I try and paln the work flow so that I'm always free on weds and thursdays when my other self employed galpals are free. I try and stay on top of serious deadlines so that I can go whenever the oppurtunity presents itself.

I play hooky a lot for powder days in the winter.:cool:

Whenever the weather is really nice in the afternoon, my office mates start asking me if I'm feeling sick. I have loads of unused sick time, so I have been claiming to be sick and leaving early to ride. Then the next day they smirkingly ask me if I'm feeling better. Hmmm, must come up with new strategy.
But you know, when everyone else is in work, the park and the roads are much less congested.
And by the way I can feel myself unwinding while I ride, i know i must be nicer to work with afterwards. I can almost imagine I'm doing everyone else a favor by bunking off.

I am taking off at 12:00 Friday - I "have family coming in for the holiday", and I need time to get ready for them - and that includes my mental health of a nice long bike ride before the weekend sets in!:D

I am taking Friday off, too! It had just better not be raining! :mad: :mad:
Or I will look like that little mad face and no one will want to be anywhere near me! :p

As for bunking-off work (I LOVE that term!), yep, done that. I tend to leave early on an occasional Thursday, as it's the day some of my riding friends go out in the early afternoon for a nice, long ride that often lasts into the evening and ends up with social times after the ride.

Okay, Fellow Bunk-Of'fers -------- how was your day?!? Did you get out for a beautiful bike ride? I am hoping so. I know I did. Sunny and 70. What joy! :D
I got in 75 miles, some wind but not enough to be a problem.

It's supposed to rain for the next three days --I am hping that's wrong!-- but if it does, at least I had today.........

Must be something in the air lately...

I "bunked off" on Monday (never heard that term before either...i like it :D ) and did about 40 miles. It was a great day, not too hot. We've had a lot of rain here so I went out to one of the bigger rivers and saw the floodwaters. I did find myself on a road I didn't want to be on on my way back. Speed limit was 45, so I waited for a big enough gap and high tailed it down the narrow shoulder. The best part was when I was coming up on some raccoon road kill with a semi creeping by me. I was like oh the irony here..... But I obviously made it back alive. My only gripe was the wind shifted on me and the temp dropped about 15 degrees. So I totally bonked. But it was still better than being at work!

Whoa! 75 miles!!! Very impressive. I did indeed leave work. Not an ambitious day for me tho'. I only did 10 miles. My allergies attacked half way thru the ride and i was tired. So, when it stopped being fun, home I went. Maybe I'll do 75 over the entire holiday weekend, that would be cool. We are expecting sun and highs in the upper 70's. Beautiful. And my husb and son are off camping. Teen daughter and i don't have to coordinate w anyone, I can just go when I want, maybe she will ride some too. I can occasionally get her to jump on her the mtn bike w me. But leaving work early was the perfect way to start a long weekend.

Hail fellow bunkers! What a gorgeous day it turned out to be! I left at noon and had to run errads so I only got 25 miles in - we had a criterium last weekend and a friend was racing the road race - had to cheer him on! Got to see Robbie Ventura (USPS) place 2nd in the pro race - pretty cool.

I was fortunate to get another 25 miles on Saturday - another gorgeous day in these parts!

Way to go Annie - 75 miles - woo hoo!
