I sold my Fuji today and I am little sad. Although Fiona was replaced with a really sweet Cannondale Synapse and would probably never see another mile with me, I felt like I was sending my baby off with a stranger. Maybe once I use the profit to buy some new tights and other nice things I won't feel so bad. I am just remembering all those good miles together, I am so sappy.
The lady who bought her was super sweet and would like to ride with me. Her excitement was very contagious. She is a newbie to cycling and Austin, so I may have gotten a new riding buddy. I guess I may see Fiona again. :D

Amanda,
It's all right! Bicycles are like musical instruments- if they are lucky, they will bring joy to more than one person during their "lifetime". It's a good happy thing for your Fiona. :)

You haven't lost a bike -- you've gained cycling gear and a new riding buddy, and your bike will still be around!

I bought a used bike, and I can't tell you how much joy that bike has brought me!
Think of Fiona as having a few missions in her life. It sounds like she fulfilled her mission with you (you said you'd not likely ride her again), so now she has moved on to her next mission.

I, too, bought a used bike, and I feel as if I've rescued her from a boring life. A guy bought her for his wife, who, as it turns out, didn't enjoy cycling a bit, so the bike was collecting dust in their garage with less than 100 miles on her. Of course, you could say she rescued me too. :D
On the other hand, I've also sold a bike that turned out to be way too big for me, and poor fit and all, I did feel a little sad when the new owner wheeled her away.
It's is kind of sad to think you'll never have fun on Fiona again,-but just think of all the joy she will bring your new friend.

I sold my old Bianchi Eros to finance my commuter. I felt like I was betraying a friendship when this college kid put it in the back of his friend's SUV and drove away. "Take care of him," I said weakly. He smiled and said he would. But do college aged guys take care of anything?? I know I wouldn't be riding that bike today. But still.....
Yeah. It's a tough one to sell a bike.

Shed your fixation wiht the past and embrace the moment... you've upgraded and so has the person who got your bike :) :)
