Cycling Europe on the EuroVelo... Wow!

This is super cool: EuroVelo, European Cycle Route Network (http://www.ecf.com/14_1) or Sustrans EuroVelo (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1095431043890).


EuroVelo, the European cycle route network, is a project of the European Cyclists' Federation to develop 12 long-distance cycle routes crossing the whole continent of Europe. The total length of these routes is over 60,000 km, of which more than 20,000 km is in place.

The planned routes would apparently include 30 countries throughout Europe. Looking at that map makes the balls of my feet itch to clip in. Anyone up for a holiday in Europe? ;)

aicabsolut, if you want to cycle in Munich, get in touch and I can give you some good day trips. It's possible to hire mountain bikes and fairly robust touring-type bikes here but for a racing/road bike you would have to bring your own.

What I can't help but wonder is: If the ECF can set up a network like this through 30 different countries, why couldn't the U.S. do something similar within our one country? Does anyone know of anything similar here in the U.S. that I may not have heard of?

The more I read about the cycling culture in Europe, especially the UK, the more impressed I am.

Thanks, Bron. I'll contact you once I get an idea about details for my trip. I'll be taking classes, but I'm sure I'll have some free time. It stays light for so long over there in the summers. But if I get lost I'm in trouble because I don't speak German. Maybe I should stop off in France or Switzerland again for a while. I've never taken a bike to Europe before, but I've wanted to.
