Sorry if this is old news and I missed it, but Ride of Silence date for 07 is May 16.
http://www.rideofsilence.com/main.php
I wrote both of my local bike clubs last year asking about a ride, and neither answered. I think this is a nice (i.e. non confrontational Critical Mass-type thing) to educate people about cyclists. I'm hoping there will be a ride here. If not, I might drive the hour or so to Walla Walla and join theirs.

I rode last year in Oakland. I will certainly ride this year for my cousin, Kathy.

There's one only a half hour away in Kelowna! DH and I will put it on the calendar and plan to go!
Thanks for bringing this up, poet!

This ride is mentioned a lot w/ my bike group, I hope to do it this year as well. The more the merrier and best way to quietly teach others that we matter on the road too. Jennifer

We have too many more reasons to have one this year than last. Just hoping we aren't competing with tornadoes this time.

I'll be doing it here in Brisbane. I wasn't a rider when it was on last year but heard about it on the news and thought it was a nice and respectful idea.

TsPoet, where are you? I live in Pendleton. If that's closer, come do our Ride of Silence.

Tri-cities - it probably is closer, and I'd like to meet you. So, I'll probably be there.

There is one right by my neurologist's office, so I have the ride on my Calendar.

In memory of Terry Walker and Amy Gehrig who were killed by a drunk driver on the west side of Cincy at 11:30am on a Sunday morning last summer. They were riding with a group from the Cincinnati Cycle Club. Terry was engaged to a friend of mine. Usually Sue rides with him but she didn't feel good that day and was at the back of the group. She saw the car hit Terry and Amy.
I met Terry on a CCC ride called the BCBCBC. The ride is on Labor Day weekend and is very hilly. The day started out very foggy and humid and I was struggling with my asthma. I was feeling pretty discouraged, everyone had gone off and left me and I couldn't breathe. Terry rode with me for a few miles and tried to encourage me and keep my spirits up. He was a very caring and loving man. I did not know Amy.
Terry was the love of Sue's life, he was a member of the Cincinnati Ski Club and the Cincinnati Cycle Club, and his death touched the members of both clubs.
There will be a Ride of Silence here in Denver and both myself and my SO will be riding in memory of Terry and Amy.

Ts--I'll let you know the details of our Ride of Silence when it gets closer. I'm surprised y'all don't have one in Tri Cities. I've done the Inland Empire Century the last 2 years. Do you do that?

I just emailed my lbs to see if we do a ride of silence and if not could we set one up. Maybe it will help me deal with the saddness of it better!

I'm surprised, too. I've also stopped by one of the LBS and got a blank stare. Maybe I need to stop by our Scott's and see if they'd be interested in "advertising" one.
I'm a member of the other bike club (the one that doesn't sponsor the Inland Empire), but the Tricity Bicycle Club would be the more logical club to organize the ride, just don't know who to contact on that. Maybe I'll try again this year.
I could do it, but I can get rather abrasive and that's not what its about - better for me to take a back seat or supportive role if I can find someone nicer to organize the ride.
Thanks, if nothing else, maybe I'll advertise the Pendleton and/or Walla Walla rides if I can find some interested people.

Hey Team E,
Hopefully everyone here will be able to participate in a Ride of Silence in your area, one the most rewarding experiences a cyclist can have. If you've contacted a club in your area about organizing a Ride, and they've not replied, please let me know, and I will be more than glad to contact them on behalf of the Ride. (listed below) That is part of my role on the R of S board. Most of my work has been within MI and at the national & international level, but I still contact plenty of local clubs in the US. The 2 states that didn't hold Rides last year, Alaska & W. Virginia, now have confirmed locations this year in part due to clubs I contacted. Email your state's governing body and ask that they support & promote the Ride within your state and to all their affiliated clubs and organizations. (I've included a list of organizations I written to this year, so pick your state's organization, google their address and send them an email)
We currently have 150 locations, in 5 countries, on 4 continents confirmed, with the list growing almost daily. We plan to exceed last years 250+ locations, and are hopeful we'll be over 300 this year. I personally know of dozens of locations who've agreed to hold-organize a Ride, but have yet to register, many still working on their details.
As one of the Mentors of the Ride, if you can't get a local club or shop to organize a Ride in your area, please consider organizing it yourself. I will talk you through the organization process and provide a guideline on 'how to'. Numerous locations around the country have organized successful Ride's within a month's time frame.
So see you all on May 16th, at 7 PM, (May 19th at 10 AM in the southern hemisphere) in remembering our friends and to make the road safer for cyclists world wide.

Markpedal,
I contacted the Tri-cities Chinook club, and got an "huh?" answer, nice but they had no idea what I was talking about and didn't seem very interested. But, I contacted a specific person from the club who sends out the weekly email "pipeline" of what's happening.
The more appropriate local club to run such a thing would probably be the Tri-cities bicycle club. The Chinook club is more the racing/training club and the Tri-city Bicycle club is more touring and social.
http://www.tricitybicycleclub.org/
But, I'm not a member and didn't know who to contact.
I will probably go down to Pendleton and join their Ride of Silence.
Walla Walla also had a ride last year - so at least the Inland Northwest is represented in the ride.
Bike shops in the area
Richland Bike and Fitness 509 943-4496
Scott's 509 374-8424 (also has a shop near Pendleton, so they might be involved in that ride already?)
Markee's 509 783-2870

Hey TS,
I just emailed both clubs. I'll try contacting the bike shops in a couple of days. Thanks for the info.
