Any suggestions for a group ride this year? I quickly looked for a date for Top Hat, but it wasn't readily apparent.

Thanks, V. I thought about this a month of so ago but then forgot. I'll see what info I can drum up on the Top Hat or other MS rides, or other charities. I'd love to do a ride as a group again.

I did the Bike for Breath a couple of summers ago with a group from work, it was a nice ride around Woodside and thereabouts. It's to benefit the CA Lung Association.

I can't find any info yet on when/if it will be held this year, but in previous years it's been held in early July.

I found a pdf of all MS rides. Some dates are TBD, but the Top Hat is 4/28/07on the same day as the SLO Wildflower to which I have already committed.

Bike for Breath . . . I'll go check that out. Where is Woodside for this provincial? I've heard of it but I can never remember where they put the durn thing.

SF Peninsula, near Rt. 92, between Palo Alto and San Mateo.

It it's a very nice ride, we should drag you out there sometime.

Oh geeze.

There's an MS 150 ride in Oregon the first weekend in August.

It starts in Forest Grove near Portland, home of McMenamin's Grand Lodge. You've possibly read my yammering about the Grand Lodge in my Thanksgiving adventure reports.

The route is a figure-8 so you start and end each day at Pacific University, just a mile or so from McMenamin's.

Would that not be a great road trip or what?

That's Mount Tam weekend. One of my five doubles. Of course if I finish DaMneD I'll have five and won't need to do Tam. :)

Ah, that would also make it the Marin Century weekend. Oh well.

That would be a good one.

edited: Actually, that would be a great one. The route sounds really good - I passed by the overnight stop, Walker Creek Ranch on my ride this past weekend (it's on Petaluma Marshall Rd. near the east side of the Marshall wall).

And it would give V. lots of time to shake down her students for their milk money - she could hit up two different class years !

What do you folks think?

I think Waves to Wine would be fun. Oh, and money raised is for a good cause.:p

But, seriously, it would be cool to have all the Amici Veloci ride as a team in an MS ride again.

Just to clarify... I didn't get any money from my students for Top Hat. :)

I say let's do it! It's far enough away that anyone who wants to come from other parts of the country (hint, hint) could make plans.

I'm going to need a blindfold and someone to lead me.

The bike ride will be held on September 29-30, 2007. Waves To Wine begins at Chrissy Field, and then heads over the Golden Gate Bridge on a truly stunning route, that will take riders through the “Waves” portion of our ride along the Cal Amgen Pro Bike Tour route. The Saturday lunch stop will be at Stinson Beach, with an overnight stay at the fabulous Walker Creek Ranch in West Marin. The Sunday route will take participants on a tour of California’s famous wine country, coasting to a triumphant finish on the streets of downtown Healdsburg, the newest darling of the wine community.
Can you tell I'm afraid of heights? But I'll do it for the team!

The rest of the ride sounds fabulous.

V.Excellent idea.

There's a parking area on the other side of the bridge. You could be driven across.

I suppose a cross posting to the Open Forum might be a good idea. :)

Yeah, it's funny how the SF newspapers all keep quiet on the huge number of bicyclists who fall right off the bridge.

I've never ridden across, but if the bike side is the same as the pedestrian side, it's quite safe, and not vertigo-inducing at all. Oh, and maybe it has crisis phones in case you get the urge to jump. :p

Yeah, yeah, yeah.:p You haven't been mountainbiking with me when I stop for no apparent reason. You also haven't seen me ride down the more difficult side of a two-track road just because that side is the farthest from the edge. I'm getting better . . . :o

I hate riding over the GG Bridge. Cars on one side and ocean on the other - and lame-o tourists who don't know how to ride a bike coming at you.

Sorry, I know that's not particularly supportive or helpful, but you'll have someone there who's as terrified as you are. I'm hoping I can do this, although 2 day events are always a tough sell with the family. At least it is long after Death Ride season!

GP rides over 2 x a day several days a week on his commute and doesn't mind, but he's "cooler" than I am.

My confidence is growing by leaps and bounds. Safety in numbers, right? We'll just use the buddy system to get across. Of course, we'll send Kim over first so we can't see her rolling her eyes at us.

To me the hardest part on my first time across the GG bridge was negotiating the two towers. Safety in numbers is a plus, that's for sure!

...negotiating the two towers.

Frodo failed. Bush has the ring.

Wait that's freddo... oh well. :p

Oh this sounds like fun and since it looks like we will be here until Dec 07 I will be around. We are planning a trip along the east coast sometime this year not sure when so how far ahead do you need to register and how much do you have to raise??

Not having any family here and only a small group of friends (that includes you guys) I might be hard pushed to raise a large amount.

We should really cross-reference to this thread.

V, should you ask Jeff to add the ride name "Waves to Wine" in the other thread?

It looks like the reg is $40(I think?) and the min pledge is $250

Thanks SK. Even I should be able to manage the min pledge.
