I'm sort of directionless at this point. As I was riding in Hawaii I realized that I was dreading PBP, not looking forward to it. I am relieved at the thought of not doing it. I am excited by other options opening up by not going to France for three weeks in August. It was going to be our big vacation...Now we can mountain bike, raft the Grand Canyon, kayak the Nepali Coast. Lots of options!

So what do I want to do? That's the question I've been pondering since we got back. I like setting a goal for myself. DMD is still out there. I have doubts that I have what it takes to finish that. But I'll keep trying.

Ten doubles? That's a lot of traveling. Five doubles? Triathlon? I loathe the act of running, but envy those who do it. And while I like to swim, outdoor pools in the winter are a turn off. I don't think I'm ready for the stage races. I wish DMD was the first one, not Mulholland.

I am not actually signed up for the SF brevet series. We had to close the checking account after the first burglary and that check hadn't been cashed yet and so bounced.

The brevets are good training and I like riding in Marin, so maybe...

I need to get a direction. Then I can formulate a plan. I have a day to figure it out.

What about the R-12 or whatever it is called? A 200K a month gives you long rides, keeps you in shape for whatever else you want and gives you rides that can be done with Thom.

Yeah, the R-12 looks like a good goal. Particularly around here where riding a 200K every month for 12 consecutive months is actually within the realm of not completely crazy.

Permaments count toward the R-12 so you could set some up and invite your friends :)
