I have only been riding 6 years and despite various times my back has not been too good, plus a couple of injuries I have managed to clock up 6000 miles.

For me this is brilliant, I have never been into sport and to suddenly start cycling at the age of fifty, I am more than pleased with myself.

I know there are many of you who cycle an amazing amount of miles per year.

The reason I put this thread up was when I was reading Caligurl's homepage, well worth looking at: http://caligurl.com/bikergurl/ Some great pics but I was so amazed that she has ridden 14,555 in her two years of riding!

So, let's hear how many you have done and whether it was on a road or MTB.

BTW...........Have a great Christmas.

This is my first year of logging miles. I've got 6500 right now and will probably end up with 6650- 6700.
I also live where you ride year around (well , summers here do tend to be pretty rugged). when i lived in Pennsylvania, I think I managed about 4000, with pretty much zero riding between November and April.

I bought my bike at 48.5 years. This is the first full year I have had it and logged 2060 miles, I managed to do a ride every month from April to December. Pretty rare around here except for the major masochistic hard core cyclists - the weather was just very cooperative this year.

Well, in 2 years, I have logged around 4,800 miles. Pretty meger compared to some of the hardcore cyclists I ride with.

And I think I logged around 3,300 of those miles in 2006 alone.

WOW!! I have never seen this before and have been thinking about how I was going to track my miles in the upcoming year. Problem solved. :)

Thanks!!!! Merry Christmas all!

I've been cycling for 3 years and this will be my second year logging in over 10000 miles. I managed 12100 in 2005 and will end up with 11750 in 2006. I love to ride!

This was my first year. My goal was 500 km. I did just over 2700 km. :) I'd like to do that much next year but will be away for most of July so that might be tough. About 2/3 of those are road bike km's and most of the rest are MTbike on the road. Only a small %age are true MTbike kms.

I love Bikejournal too!

I started riding lots of miles when I was 40 - it's six years later and this year I got in 8100 miles. Commuting helps a whole lot; I got the Xtracycle in February and the Gazelle Dutch Commuter in October or November so next year I'll have even fewer car miles in Jan and Feb. though I don't know if I"ll have a competitive thing with "Howard" on bikejournal to motivate me to do a November century and get 700+ miles in November and December again!

You guys are awesome. It's my first full year of riding, and I've ridden almost 2400 miles outdoors (year's not over!), and over 2800 miles if you include trainer and stationary bike miles. I think I've got a long way to go, though!

This is my second year on the bike and I'll hopefully reach 6000 km (not miles!!) by the end of the year. ( I still have 202 km to go.)

I did a little less than 5000 on my first year.

Frankly, I don't think my objectives for next year will be much above the 6000 km mark. I've discovered I love running, too, and that takes a while (and some energy from my legs). So next year I will have a bigger run objective than this year (haven't yet figured what) and keep my bike mileage at about the same... + 1km maybe!!

I've been riding since fall 2000, right before I turned 47. The first year and a half I think I rode about 800-1,000 miles on my Voodoo mtb. I didn't have a computer on my bike for the first few months. I got my first road bike in Sept. 2002. The first season I rode 1700 miles. The next year I rode about 2,000. I got a different bike in July 2004 and for the 2004 season I think I had about 2100 miles. Last year I had 2401 miles, and right now I am sitting at 3,004 miles for 2006 (and another new bike. I guess I'm addicted). The weather was in my favor this year, so I was able to get out a lot more in the fall. I don't count trainer, spin class, or my mountain bike rides in my total. I like mountain biking, but I go really slowly and usually not more than 6-10 miles, so it's not that much!
I am not sure how much I will ride next season. With the warm weather this fall and winter, there doesn't seem to be much of an "off" season... I will not be working after June, but I want to be reasonable with my goal, knowing that although I will probably being doing Wednesday and Friday club rides on a regular basis for much of the year, I don't want to be a slave to being on my bike. I want to keep it fun. I'm thinking that a goal of 3500 miles would be most reasonable, since I plan to do some commuting on my bike for errands. That way, if I pass my goal, it will seem like icing on the cake.

I started riding seriously (well, sort of) in 2001 but didn't get serious about tracking miles until this year. I am still hoping to hit 2000 miles, I am about 48 miles short.
We have bike rides planned for the weekend, so I have my hopes up that i can reach that goal.

TONI, there are a lot of us TE gals on Bikejournal. You can see my mileage there too.

Between my time on the trainer stand and my time out on the roads I generally do 50-80 miles a weeks. So, that projects out to at least 2500 miles a year. The new bike computer I got for the road bike tells me I've done close to 900 miles since I got it at the beginning of September.

Cambuhl, I know that living in Houston allows you to rack up the miles year-round, but that is mighty impressive. How do you do it? Do you commute? Ride at night? How long is your typical ride?

I just started riding this past June and didn't start putting any serious miles on the bike until August. I feel like I ride every chance I get, but I "only" managed a little over 2000 miles for the year. I'd like to do about 4,500 in the very least next year, but 12,000 miles? Wow! Great job.

3000 for the last 2 years--hope to increase in 2007.

I ride about 250 miles a week, 4 nights after work (it beats sitting in that horrible traffic) and both days on the weekend. I am not a happy camper until I have at least 65 miles each day on the weekend and I try to get in 30-40 miles a night during the week. I love to ride and if I can't, I'm not happy.

ah, humbled once again by the fair ladies of TE. My answer to the original question:

not enough

:p

Am hoping to do more next year!

Ditto "not enough" here, too. This year between work and family issues I haven't gotten around to tabulating my mileage for the last 3 months or so. It's doubtless well north of 3500 miles, but that's way down from my last 4 years. For the new year I've decided to try not to get so resentful when obligations cut into my bike time and instead, focus on a couple of objectives and above all, the enjoyment I derive from any time I can devote to riding my bike.

Its interesting to read your mileages... though I do semi-follow those of you who post on bikejournal.com

My goal last year - my first full year of cycling - was 2500km (1543miles). I achieved that with a total of 2532.96km on the road.

I decided to raise the goal for 2006 and made it 3500km (2160miles).
As of yestreen, I had clocked up 3862.19km on the road. (I have also logged 1162km on the spin bike if that is of interest).

With four days left (though Saturday will most likely be a rest day) I am hoping to do enough to reach 4000km...

And wow, cambuhl... you must be like my partner... he does 300-400km weeks so his total every year sits somewhere between 16,000 and 22,000kms!

This was a shorter year for me compared to last year. I, too, hope to increase next year. Including trainer miles I have just over 2100 miles with rides planned for tomorrow afternoon and Saturday (if the rain holds off long enough).

wow! thanx for the compliments on my little site! lol! it's just something i started to keep a record of my rides and a place to post pics (it comes in handy when people ask about a specific ride.... i can send them to the page with ride pics on it!)

i've cut WAY back of riding this year... and even moreso as the year has gone on and as it get's colder... i've discovered that now that newbie-itis has worn off... that i'm less tolerant of cold! BRRRRRRRRR (that's MY definition of cold bounced the heat i ride in!)

i've also discovered a new love: mountain biking! yes... prissy me! "i don't like to get durty!"

we'll see what the new year brings and once it starts warming up in the spring!

It looks like I'll wind the year up with somewhere between 5,800 and 5,900. I had projected my milage, on BikeJournal, to be 5,000 for 2006 so I'm ahead of schedule and quite happy. Using the trainer during the cold months when I refuse to ride outside made a big difference this year and I'm hoping to have another good year in 2007. I'm rethinking my initial goal of 5,500 miles for 2007, may up it to 6,000 depending on how brave I feel.

Hi Toni -

I don't think there's any club password on bikejournal.

Could you have been looking at the member log-in page?

You'll need to join bike journal, and get your own login and password.

Membership is free, or you could get and enhanced ("premier") membership for $20/year. More details about that are on the bj website.

One you get your login and password, then you just find the Team Estrogen club site and click on "join this club", that's all it takes.

If you're not currently logged in then it would ask you for your own member name and password.

Hope this helps.
