I just sold my red bike - for some reason I'm sad

As some of you know I had two brand new full suspension mountain bikes and had to sell one. The Santa Cruz Superlight seemed to work for me best so I kept that bike and advertised and just sold my Spec. Stumpjumper FSR to a young woman who is very enthusiastic about getting into mountain biking.

The bike is going to a good home and Lord knows I don't need the 2 bikes and I got a good price... but I'm still sad and hate to see it go. It was a good bike and very pretty. I can only hope the new owner treats it well and keeps it safe. Bye Bye little bike... be good! :(

weird how you get attached to bikes isn't it? I don't know that I could sell my bike... even if I got a new one... I'd feel just like you I'm sure... it's been so many places with me and taken me so far...:o

I know how you feel! I gave my Specialized Dolce Comp to a woman I work with to take home over the weekend. Today she came in with a check for me (for my asking price). I was bummed that I'd never get to see Tinkerbell again! Oh well, at least this way we know both our bikes will be loved, right?

My first bike got traded to the LBS for the Specialized and I felt awful every time I'd go there and see it out on their used bikes rack. Poor bike...it wasn't it's fault that it was too big for me! I felt SO much better the day I saw someone take it for a test ride. The next visit, it was gone. Phew...it finally found a home! :) What a relief!!

It is funny, eh? I sold my first, cheapie mountain bike (although you'd be nuts to take it anywhere near an actual mountain - more of a "you could ride it to the shops on a dirt road" kind of a bike really) a couple of months ago for $6 more than I paid for it (a TradeMe success story if ever there was one). I sold it to a kid of about 13 who was absolutely stoked with it. And yet I still felt a little sad once there was no bike sitting there in that spot anymore. I could probably sell my road bike without too much lingering upset (as long as I was replacing it with something better :p), but I think I'd just about cry if I ever sold my Tassajara - we've been through too much together. :( :rolleyes: :o

My first "real" bike was an orange Gitane, bought in 1971 (my first year of college). I had numerous other bikes, but this was my first real bike. I rode that bike for 26 years. I had rebuilt it myself, when I knew how to do that stuff. I then got my Trek 460 "mountain bike", silver grey with turquoise hightlights. I couldn't part with my gitane until I found a "good" home for it. Several years later I heard it was wrecked. I felt so sad. I then got a heavier duty Trek mountain bike. I had an equally difficult time letting go of my Torquey, but DH wanted one less bike around. I again found a very good home for it. Selling these bikes was out of the question for me. I had to find "good homes" for them. I know it is being handed down to children who love the idea of riding and do take care her. I wish I could get that bike back, though:D ....

Yes, I know the feeling. There is no way I am selling my peugeot racing bike (bought second hand with my pocket money when I was 16). I did my first time-trial and first triathlon on it, brought it out to Germany with me when I first came here. Maybe one day it will be "vintage" instead of just old.

Yup! No way....no WAY I will ever part with my 70's Gitane TdF, or my '86 Bianchi Super Grizzly mtb. Uh-uh. It would be like losing a couple of limbs; both have been with me since new. I'm also very attached to my Falcon, Bianchi Limited, and Kuwahara mtb, but if worse came to worst, I could (with much persuasion) part with them. Probably.

But the TdF and Grizz stay. :D

Of course you're sad! Red bikes are special. I never want to have a bike that's not red. I know I'll probably have to at some point, but I'll keep thinking that I'll have to spray paint it red... :rolleyes:

All the bikes I have ever had - were either blue (mostly blue) Silver or gray. This was my first red bike and well it got the reputation of being the "BLOOD" bike - I got hurt almost the first out on it, I got cancer and now have this serious back injury. I blamed all on the Blood Bike so sadly it had to go but it was a beauty especially after my good buddy Richard cleaned it upa nd put on a number of wax coats. It almost sparkled. I still have a silver, a gray and 2 blue bikes sitting int he agrage so it's not like I don;t have a replacement. It's just so weird I feel badly the bike is now gone... :(
