Hey WWC (Wool Weenie Club)

Please help me with my xmas shopping.. what are some great wool "everyday" socks? Should still have great wool properties but aren't too thick for wearing in work shoes or tennies.. Should be in black or navy or other standard innocuous work colors for men.

Tks!

Smartwool makes their socks in a wide variety of thicknesses, styles, and colors. I live in Florida and wear Smartwool socks all year around--they even make really thin ones that are great under cycling shoes in summer. I'd check out what Sierra Trading Post has to offer before looking anywhere else, just because their prices are so great, though the selection is unpredictable.

Having said that, I admit that I haven't tried anyone else's wool socks, so there may be comparable quality and selection from other makers.

I just have two or three different brands (plus non-branded stuff, but not for sports) and Smartwool are my favourite. The cycling ones are different from the running ones, you can feel the difference. They also come in different weights...

I have a couple pairs of Smartwools that I do like, but I love these DeFeet socks:

The smartwool black hiking liner socks are a very close analog to men's thin dress socks.

I love my hot chillys and Lorpen, but they are kind of less everyday and more for sports (good wicking properties to keep feet dry and warm).

I wear Smartwool light hikers and medium hikers all the time, except when hiking, and then I wear the heavy hikers.

Wow.. I expected more diverse replies. I guess everyone loves Smartwool. I have a few pair and they're pretty thick but I'll check out some other ones and the hot Chilys and Lorpen.

I checked out Sierra Trading Post and I didn't see anything jump out at me..well and most of them didn't have XL so I'll have to do a bit more shopping around.

Any suggestions for the best (cheapest, reliable) wool(drug) dealer out there?

they come in several weights. I have some very thin ones, and then some that are so thick i wear them in the house like slippers.

Smartwool Adrenalin hikers. And those low quartered ones, too. Everytime I put on my Smartwools they feel like brand-new socks.

And they feel like I'm getting a foot massage...great to put on after work! They are definitely my favorites, too :)
