Welp, tonight was the big night of the heart rate test. Trainer wouldn't let me do it on my own -- said people aren't as likely to push as hard by themselves. Who, me? Nah.

Anyhow, we did it on this cool trainer that measures speed, watts and mph in a stealth locked room at the gym. Apparently track legend Marty Nothstein trained in that room when he was going for the Olympic gold medal (the time he got it). I felt like I was in sacred ground or something. Posters of Lance and Ullrich all over the walls. Vintage Tour de France posters. Olympic rings on the floor. Definitely VERY cool.

My bike max HR is 177, which is exactly 10 beats per minute lower than my max HR from the 5K on Saturday. Trainer's gonna e-mail me my zones and I'm sure we'll talk more about how to know when to train in which zone. In the past, I've just gone as hard as I could for as long as I could every session.

That sounds so cool! And the test sounds really interesting... along with the results. I guess I've been really hesitant to even consider a HR monitor, as I don't know what it all means and where to start.

Looks like you got a good solid start and you will be able to train effectively with it. Keep us updated!

I am very anxious to hear how it turned out and what all the recommendations and applications are - keep us posted
