View Full Version : Is your Christmas Tree up?

Finally got my tree (and some my decorations) up... although my house is still a mess here it is. I love having a tree up. It takes over most of my living room but looks so pretty.
Funny story - I went to work the next day after putting it up. When I came home my cat had apparently spent the day plucking all the little Waterford birds off the tree and piling them up all together around the back of the tree. Uncertain how he did it since some were quite high. Now all are way up high but I still see him plotting on how he is gonna git himself a bird!

PS - I noticed the angel looks like she falling off... got to go fix that!

Wow, very stunning!
I just spent the morning getting mine up. Yours musta taken hours to decorate! Mine is about three feet tall and took all morning, course half the time was spent searching for my Xmas boxes and unpacking stuff!
I have a small house therefore a small tree, sorta glad about that......makes for few gifts under it though, sigh.
Merry, merry and ho,ho,ho everyone!

bcipam- your tree is beautiful!! Thanks for posting it!
I don't put up a tree. With just the two of us (no kiddos), it seems more trouble than it's worth getting it out, decorating it, and packing it away. I like to see other's trees tho- gets me in the Christmas mood!
Very pretty... (and what a clever cat you have, too  )

 What a gorgeous tree, bcipam!! I really dig Christmas, but I have nowhere near the patience and creativity you have to create such a wonderful tree. We put ours up last Sunday during the Big Snow. Just like Christmas in Alberta when I was little.....brought back so many memories.
So...my tree is a little lame, but my Christmas shopping is done :D ..!

Beautiful Pam - I love colorful trees. I'm with Lisa, the cat has a ladder stashed somewhere.
Popoki - your tree is beautiful too.
We haven't brought our decorations out yet, but I have a tiny 18" shiny silver tree in my cubicle at work. I'm thinking it will be my over the top tree - marabou garland and all.

Wow. Nice trees, folks.
DH and I (mostly me) will put up a tree later this month. Probably the 4.5' falsey this year, as we won't be around for the holiday itself. We'll be up in Connecticut with my family. Even tho' we've got no kids, I do enjoy decorating for the holidays....but lately the decorations have been getting less and less. I'm less enthusiastic about it than I once was.

Our tree is a fakey, but we use Crabtree and Evelyn Christmas oil to make it smell like a good one.

Rather eclectic collection of ornaments: boats, fish, seashells, lots of handmade things, ornaments with meaning, some we can't remember where they came from, old ones, new ones. The new ones for this year are blown glass rubber duckies: one each purple, green, and blue.

we put our tree up, too.....

after i took the pic i realized i have the onaments more concentrated at eye level.... so i need to do some rearranging.... what i like about this tree is the stand spins.... so instead of just seeing the front side... we get to see the whole tree!
(and pam.... my angel always looks like she's tipping over, too.... i think they are both hitting the booze while we're gone!)

No tree is ever badely decorated! They are all so pretty. I have to go on the road for another 4 days but we got our tree today. We just came home from working in oregon (cold) yesterday. We will kep our tree in the cool garage in a bucket of water and put lights on it next weekend and such.. we went to our local lighted boat parade. It was fun but way to short I thought.
Those are some beautiful trees! No matter how critical you may be of your own, I think they are each and every one perfect!
I was surprised today when DH suggested we put the tree up next weekend. Isn't that a whole 2 weeks before Christmas? That's a good week earlier than usual! He must be starting to get into it or something...
It's a falsey, but a good one. I'll post pics when it's done.
A new friend from work says she's going to help decorate our house. She recently split up with her man and moved back in with her folks and her way too many Christmas decorations are stored in their garage. We're just looking forward to a good firenog (I hope I can tolerate at least one!!), to enjoy as we put up all those memories....
Hugs and butterflies,
~T~

I use christmas fabric that I got at a fabric store about two yards of it. It is nice and big. The little skirts are almost to little sometimes. And I think they cost to much as well.

I use a hunk of Christmas fabric that I got wrapped around a present one year. (fabric instead of wrapping paper) I haven't finished it off or sewn it into a skirt shape, I just swirl it around the tree stand.

Here's a close up of my tree skirt. It's beautiful. It's made of dark green and red velvet and has lots of hand embroidered ornaments on it. You can't tell in the photo but when the lights are on, the ornaments just sparkle, reflecting the hand made ornaments I have on my tree.
I bought the skirt about 10 years ago at Costco for gosh sakes. They tend to have the most awesome Christmas stuff - gift boxes, glass ornaments, home decorations - however they usually come out in the Summer so you have to keep your eyes open!
Everyones' trees look great! Even though I am divorced and have no family here I put up a tree. It puts me in the mood and I love ooking at it. It takes me 3 days to put it up but it's worth it. It's never really done as I keep moving things around.
Cali love your tree. Yes I wish I had taken photos of Pip's "kills" I was just so astonished and amused about the whole thing I forgot. He keeps eyeing the big birds on the tree and yes I suspect he does have a ladder stashed someplace! Some day when I'm not watching....

No tree is ever badely decorated! .
This reminded me of a story re DS when he was about 7th grade
I didn't put up the family room Christmas tree one year, just the living room one and he was very put out so decided to do it himself. It was an old artificial one where you had to put each branch in certain slots. He just stuck them in anywhere, anyhow, upside down, big on top, little on the bottom, no rhyme or reason. Then took the atrocious gold fluffy garland and lights and draped them everywhere, even beyond the tree. It was hilarious. I left it up even for my adult annual Christmas party, it was definately a conversation starter. Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture.
I LOVE the story about your cat "hunting" all the birds
All the tree pictures are very beautiful - Makes me want to put mine up, oh. . . Oh. . . OH! .. . the feeling is passing - spinning class is in an hour :D

Yep, tree mat is a must. Catches all the needles as they fall off. We do a tree, menorah (two this year!), toast the turning of the sun at the exact hour every year, little gnome figures all over the place ... anything to brighten our lives during the darkest month. But the tree doesn't go up until Dec. 23, otherwise it'd be bare branches by Jan 6 when it comes down. So Dec 23 DH puts the tree in its base and the "kids" put on the lights and all the accumulated decorations they made at school up through the years and when the tree is up we go across the street to the neighbors' pre-Xmas party (mulled wine and moose buffet, and "the lady and the butler" sketch on tv). Same procedure as every year, James.
Gorgeous tree, bcipam! Ours are never so thickly branched, nor do we have any decorating themes. One year our tree was so twisted in the trunk that we had to tie it to the window hasps to keep it from tipping over. That was after it tipped over once and broke pretty much all our glass decorations. THEN we tied it up, when it was pretty much empty. But a tree does cheer up the room nevertheless. :D
I grew up with lots and lots of cats (we took in strays for an organization and fed them til they could find a more permanent home), and we cut our own Christmas tree, which I always insisted be the tallest our (lofty) ceiling could accomodate. Result: cats here, there and everywhere, and a tree guywired to three walls...
We now have a hyperactive kitten about to meet her first Christmas tree. She already climbs the curtains by jump-catching all four paws, and does campus-training on the back of the kitchen chairs, overhanging to her.
I can hardly wait.

I've had a red felt cheap one for a few years and always meant to jazz it up. Last year I even bought lots of "stuff" from the craft store to do it but neglected to do so. Sooooo yesterday and most of last night I spent cutting out little felt trees and snowmen to adorn my crumby red felt tree skirt, gawd is it awful looking! I did manage to sew on some gilded rick-rack around the bottom. I am so not creative, it's a shame. I am going to finish this for sure, well OK, not finish it, I decided it's such a pain it will be a work in progress, to be continued next year, and next and so on.....then I'll probably break down and buy an expensive one and get a real live big tree too!
In my minds eye I am such a great artist.......:(
I think I figured a way to take and post a pic with my cell phone I will try to get one posted soon. I love seeing everyone elses and now that I've told you what a crumby job I did on my "skirt" well I must show ya!:(

I hope you all realize that tree is fake - an expensive fake. Since I live alone it was just so difficult to go out by myself and hunt down a tree, get it into the holder and then take care of it. Fake tree takes me a day to put up but it's worth it especially if you hve "overdecoritis" like I do. I can manipulate the branches to fit certain ornaments and during the seasont he tree does not droop or change shape. I use Bath and Body Works pine scented plug ins to make up for lack of scent.

12-03-2006, 03:04 PM

Beautiful trees, you guys!!
Our tree experience has been rather interesting this year....
Well, we assembled our fakey tree yesterday and plugged it in to make sure the lights worked, etc. Some of the lights didn't come on, and my DH reassembled it to see if that was it. Nope. It's the tree. So, we decided to just make do with it this year and buy a new one next year.
We hadn't decorated it yet and I was sitting nearby doing some household-related paperwork. Pretty soon I started smelling something -- thought it was just my imagination until the smell started getting stronger. Yep, it was the tree. The thing was smoking!!!! Must have had a short somewhere.
So tonight, inevitably, we bought a new tree. Still have to put it up. Let's hope it's smokin' in a good way. :) :D
Happy tree trimming, everyone...

Now I'm inspired to get my tree up. Was going to Thanksgiving weekend, but one of my dogs ended her battle with Cushings Disease. So I was bummed. I did get her buried in the back yard under the gazebo where she used to love to sit and watch the doves that nested in the climbing rose.
Then this past weekend I had a migraine. No biking (OK I've been really bad on that part), and no going to the gym to lift weights. Just lounge in bed and wait for the medicine to work. At least my kitties were happy to help me rest.
So maybe tonight I'll actually get the tree up. If I can get the thought of last year's opening my box of ornaments to discover ALL the roaches in the neighborhood had used the box as their personal high water shelter after Katrina. Icky icky icky. I know they're now safely out of creepy crawly way because I bought a Plastic box with a tight lid and sprinkled borax on the top for good measure. But the memories, the nasty memories.

Suzie - do you first load your photo at either photobucket or snapfish or one of these types of sites? You need to do that first. Then you just copy and paste the url over by using the insert image button. I sometimes have to clean up what copies over (I get [IMG} usually twice and have to delete one first).

oh i'm so sorry about your doggie..... and what a horrible time of year for it to happen (yes... ANY time to have it happen is horrible.... but having a bad event associated with a holiday... especially thanksgiving... it's somehow exonenitally (spelling) overwhelming and hurtful... ) i had no desire or ambition to put up our tree last year because we dealt with a very sudden illness and death of our beloved dog last year.... lost him the day after thanksgiving... that day will always be tainted for me now....

I typically don't put up a tree given I always travel so that I can be with my parents and one of my siblings and their family. Some years I decorate the cat tree (a real tree which has perches at the end of the branches for my buddies). However, this year I decided that was not a good idea with my two 8 month old kittens (Penelope and Twister). So this year I'll enjoy my younger brother's tree along with my parents and his family. All the pictures that have been shared are beautiful!

Yes, that's the Xtracycle - there were three of them in our group. The other two had kids on them, and the kids had wrapped Christmas Tree lights around their bodies - wish I'd thought of that!
I couldn't fix the picture size 'cause it's not my picture; https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/csmyth/www/ccbpl has even more pictures but they are big. (Normally I fix their size with the software that came with the camera.)
Howard rode almost 39 miles today... I'll only get in 15... hmmm... maybe I've got time for a lap around campus or three...
(found in morning un posted :) :))
Went out in that hour's window before class and screamed off 5 laps around campus for 7 miles and worked up a veritable lather. (Started thinking: 10K = 6.2 miles; first indoor time trial is 12/17; TRAINING!!)
Alas, I'm not sure I'll get in any; more than the 15 today, though. It's the fifth already, though... 26 days to go and I've still got 147 miles on the guy :)

I'll be putting up my tree this coming weekend. Can't Wait - I don't really care about the ornaments but I just adore Christmas Lights! I use an old christmas table cloth for my tree skirt - it works great and it was a great deal on an after christmas sale. BMCCASLAND: I'm so sorry about your doggie:( A couple of years ago, on Christmas Eve day, I woke up to find that my Little Kitty had a heart attack and died in the garage on his way back inside the house. It was very sad. I still have a hard time putting up the tree sometimes cause he just used to love to camp out under the christmas tree and sleep. He loved the smell of pine and he used to smell like pine all the time cause we live in the mountains. I even have a picture of him under the christmas tree the year he died. Little Kitty got buried in the back yard where he used to like to chase the birds!

Thank you ! I believe the heron (bird) Is made by a company called old world ornaments. And the cat I believe is a dept 56 ornament. It is a certain line of theirs. Or it is halmark but I don't think so. You see this line in all the gift shops. It is a lot of animals dressed up in strange costumes.
