My boyfriend of a little over a year proposed to me last night. :D I kinda thought that he had something up his sleeve. We've been talking marriage for better than 6 months. But, he's been saying a lot of stuff lately, I didn't think he'd wait for Christmas because that'd be obvious... Turns out the ring was ready yesterday and he planned on proposing anyway. It also would've been my dad's birthday.

Nick thought about not doing it, he wanted the engagement to be a special day. He did talk to my mom about it again. He had talked to her and my brother on Thanksgiving. My mom thought that it would be good, something really happy to associate with the day too... and a way to remember my dad too.

He proposed to me at the bar that we first met at. We had met via an online dating experiment. We knew some of the same people anyway, but who knows if we ever would have met. He lived in a town I grew up near, half an hour away. He works for a man that was my dad's best friend as a child. It's been a good year.

Just yesterday a co-worker asked if I was getting a ring for Christmas. :D

So, even more incentive to log those miles this year! AND lift some weights to make sure that my arms look smashing too. Hmmm... 10 year class reunion and probably a wedding in one year. Now, as long as I don't break my arm this season. Because it'd have to be the right arm again so that I don't detract from my left hand. It was tough last spring. I'm right handed.

Do you suppose that I could register for a mountain bike? :D The fiance will ride with me occasionally, but he likes going fast with a motor in front of him.

Congrats Hammer!!!!

Sounds like he's quite a catch, and the two of you were meant to be together (so many coincidences, eh?).

I wish you the best for the upcoming year (you know; no broken bones, lots of fun planning, riding a lot with DF).

Congrats! :D

Why not register at a bike shop? If that is what is important to you!

Make sure your honey registers for what he wants too!

Congratulations!! That's a beautiful story!

Do register for the bike! My partner and I plan to get hitched in the near future as well and we've discussed that we ask people who want to make gifts to do so toward a pair of good touring bikes for us to go on our honeymoon the following summer!! If you partner cycles as well, it's a great thing to share!

Nick says girls are easy to please... Boys need a whole shiny car... Girls, a shiny washer. :D I have racoon syndrome too. I was driving to another town staring at my hand nearly the whole way. :D

That's fun! :D Hmmm... I have a feeling that I'll be going for lots of runs/rides... People have been like, "Now don't be a bridezilla..." As if I have it in me! I was curious if THEY thought that I had it in me.

My brother and his girlfriend are planning to get engaged sometime toward the beginning of the next year. It's a little nerve wracking because she's been hyper excited and has been planning in her head for awhile. CAlling dibs on a couple things (well intentioned and with a jovial tone). Nick and I have been what-iffing and planning the hypothetical wedding too... But still, I don't really have a lot of idea of what to do. I don't know how many people to guess for a head count, how much the details will cost...

And I'm thinking that it's a good thing that my brother's girlfriend and I have very different tastes, otherwise it'd be a race. She wants a September wedding. Which, my fiance is a farmer. I would LOVE a September wedding too... great light, the sun is not so harsh. I'd kinda like autumn colors. If it works, that's what I'm picking, because I have a ring on my hand. :D But I'm pretty sure stuff is getting harvested around then.

But, his folks are meeting my mom for the first time this weekend. I imagine that the subject just might come up in conversation. :D My brother's girlfriend pointed me to theknot.com It seems like a really helpful site. So, that's a good thing. She and I could potentially go through this process and be able to counsel each other. My grandpa thought we should have a double ring ceremony. Maybe I have some bridezilla tendencies.... I want the day to be OURS and reflect the personalities of my groom and I. Not, my groom, my brother, his bride and I.

Alright, I'll stop rambling. Thanks again for your well wishes!!

Maybe I need to revisit the 2007 goals thread! ;-)

What a beautiful ring! Many wishes for a long and happy life of passion and friendship!

I heartily recommend pre-marital counseling. My husband and I discussed things I never would have thought about because of our counseling sessions. It definitely helped us to set some goals for ourselves and for us as a couple, and to agree on some mutually-decided-upon rules to set realistic expectations.
