Okay, I'm a woolweenie and will check myself in later, but felt this question needed its own topic!

I have the plum Zip-T that I first was going to send back because it's way too snug to be becoming but then realized I love the way it feels, I love the way it looks, and who gives a rat's *** if it shows off my bulges?

I just got the base layer versawear Quarter'til Top that I bought on Steep and Cheap. It's a much lighter weight wool, of course, but it's also nowhere near as soft as my midweight Zip T. Is that the nature of the two weights? Will the base layer perhaps be softer after I wash it? I'm not complaining and will keep it -- I just wondered.

Which brings me to my real question -- is the hoodie (that runs large) more like the Zip T (soft and a tad "fuzzier" than the base layer) or more like the base layer?

I can answer that. :)

It's more like the base layer than the Zip-T. There's two textures on the hoody. There's a rib knit and a smoother knit. Neither have that fuzzy softness of the Zip-T. It's a beautiful piece, but not as soft.

Hope that helps!

But the SW hoodie is thicker fabric than the Smartwool microweight tops!
I love my black and orange SW hoodies- they may not be "fuzzy/soft" but they are still snuggly- and the hood fits beautifully under my helmet. :)
(I normally take a medium, but the small hoodie fits me fine)

You are absolutely right. Sorry if my post was unclear! :o I was more focused on texture than weight. For sure, the weight of the hoody fabric is beefier than the microweight base layers.

Thanks for clarifying, Lisa!
