Here we go, girls!
No-one started it yet, so I did.
"Hi, my name is Knot, and my favorite wooly brands are Ibex, Smartwool, and Icebreaker."
I've found that Woolrich tends to mix a lot of man-made fiber in with their wool, so you have to be careful. Duofold's "pure" wools tend to fall apart waaaaay too quickly, though their duo-layer wool-cottons are as good as always. Pendleton is too awesome for words, and someday I will have queen sized Pendleton blankets on my bed and a blanket on my couch, instead of just one little blankie.

Yeah, honey, it is. But in this case we aren't trying to stop our addiction, and we ARE trying to get others addicted.
Just *try* to tell me you didn't like my Ibex.... I know the truth.;)

The Twelve Principles of WoolWeenies:*
1. We admitted we were powerless over wool.
2. Came to believe that wool could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of wool as we understood it.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our wardrobe.
5. Admitted to WoolWeenies, to ourselves, and to another TE members the exact nature of our wool needs.
6. Were entirely ready to have wool remove all our defects of layering.
7. Humbly asked wool to remove our polyester odor annoyances.
8. Made a list of all wool items we had ripped, and became willing to mend them all.
9. Made direct mends to such wool items wherever possible, except when to do so would fray them further.
10. Continued to take wardobe inventory and when we were running low promptly bought more wool.
11. Sought through websearches and discounts to improve our conscious contact with wool, as we understood it, seeking only knowledge of wool's will for us and the budget to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of wearing wool, we tried to carry this message to other woolweenies, and to wear wool in all our activities.
*(with apologies and a respectful nod to AA...) ;)

Lisa!!!! You are a GODDESS!!!!!! A *goddess*, I tell you!
Trek - I knew you liked it.;) We'll get you wearing wool soon. We'll start you on Duofold (cotton next to your skin) then advance you to wool longsleeve shirts, then t-shirts; and soon, the big one... wool boxers!
Wool underwear, the sign of a true woolweenie! (umm, that doesn't quite sound right, but we know what I mean!)

I see, Duofold is the entry drug, then it's all downhill from there till I hit bottom only to be found in a gutter somewhere having lost my house, family and job all in search of more and better wool.
At first there were the excuses, oh, I'll only wear wool on the weekends, or only after very special rides. Soon you'd be making excuses for me "Trek will finish that project, she'll get to work on time, she just needs more wool after a weekend of riding".
Thanks to the higher-power as we know it there is wool-anon for the family and friends of WoolWeenies

Psssst... Hey, Trek. C'mere. I gotta nice black Duofold henley that oughta fit ya. Has that authentic "broken in" look. Cotton interior layer, 40% wool in the outer layer. Nice and cozy for those chilly December San Francisco nights. Clean, and it's the real goods. C'mon, what could it hurt? I'll let cha have it, first one's on me, eh? Hey, we're friends, right? Would I steer ya wrong?
Hi group, my name is Grog, and I am a woolweenie.
It has been weeks since I have last taken off my Ibex Ultimate Guide Sweater in blue, and when it's really cold I layer it with some Smartwool. My dear partner's mother brought me back Smartwool striped socks from a trip and I would have exchanged my mom for her at the moment I opened that package. I have been thinking about those loose tights day and night since they were introduced to me...

Hi my name is madscot
I first bought my first piece of wool last spring from REI. First I saw the smart wool and I thought this is the perfect zip neck it is what i have searched for high and low- it looks tight, warm, and black. But then I saw it was too expensive. but then REI brought out their own brand and sent me a coupon. and then it happened.
then I bought the blue zip neck. I didn't need a blue one. I needed a black crew neck
So I bought one from icebreaker. It is warm and thick. thicker than smar wool. more expenive than smart wool
But now what I really need is a thick skiiing veryday sweater. The Ultimate guide sweater in stock is too large for me. I am still lost and confused
So I bought the icebreaker ignition pullover. It isn't quite what I am lookiing for but it will do.
And now I am a poor college student wearing a sweater that is a third of my rent.
thank you wool weenies for helping me in that at least I am poor but when I am evicted I will stay warm through the warmth of merino.
I see, Duofold is the entry drug, then it's all downhill from there till I hit bottom only to be found in a gutter somewhere having lost my house, family and job all in search of more and better wool.
That's the beauty of wool. You can be homeless in a gutter in rain and snow and 40 mph winds, but you'll still be warm. :D
My name is DebW, and my wool addiction started in the winter of 1974-75 before the advent of synthetic fabrics. If you wanted to winter hike then, you needed wool. And being a poor student, my winter hiking wardrobe consisted of navy surplus wool pants (luckily I got the ones with the zipper instead of the 13 buttons), two army surplus wool shirts, wool balaclava, and ragg wool socks. When I could afford it, I bought some Stil-longs long underwear pants - wonderful quality soft wool. Also owned wool fishnet long underwear. My fav woolies ever are boiled-wool Dachstein mittens - almost completely windproof. For biking there was ProTogs, of which I still have a long-sleeved T-shirt with only a few moth holes. Currently all my socks are Smartwool. I own Smartwool boxers, two long-sleeved wool bike jerseys, and I have a collection of wool shirts from Goodwill, one a Pendleton. Too cheap to buy Smartwool shirts for now.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of wool as we understood it.
Yes, I owe a lot to wool. Here's the story of how wool saved my life (OK, I'm exaggerating but only a little). The first day of a winter overnight hike we had to cross a stream about 30 yards wide. There were step stones maybe only a little underwater and it wasn't too icy. I was standing a little ways from shore helping other people across, then handed my camera to someone and started across myself. Slipped on a rock, lost my balance, and sat in the water. Stood up quickly but was wet from the waist down. Crossed the stream. Took off boots, poured out water, squeezed out socks, put socks and boots back on. Boots were all rubber (Army K-boots) with sealed insulation, so feet were fine. Continued hiking in wet wool pants with polypro longjohns underneath, temp maybe 25F. Within 10 minutes the polypro felt dry and warm. The wool pants continued to keep me warm but they held water and got somewhat frozen, providing good wind protection. At camp I removed the wool pants, with longjohns still dry underneath. Put on fuzzy camp pants and windpants and was happy. Left the wool pants hanging in a tree over night. The funny thing was, they froze stiff in a really funny position and I couldn't get them on the next day. I had to beat them against a tree to make them fit into my pack. I hiked that day in longjohns and windpants, which was quite fine.

Hmmm... "in search of more and better wool." Ain't it the truth. ;)

OK, all you WoolWeenies. Am I doomed forever, or destined to follow you all down the righteous path of wooliness? I have sensitive skin, have to buy unscented detergent, etc. and have always itched at the feel of wool or cashmere on my tender skin. Is there hope for my pathetic, wool-free existence? Is this Smartwool stuff really as itch-free as it is claimed to be?

Bambu - Duofold (cotton inside, wool outside) or some Woolrichs (poly-fleece-something inside, wool outside) might be just the ticket for you.
In the realm of no-itch, yes; Smartwool, Ibex, and Icebreaker are good stuff. I'd say Ibex is the least itchy. I'm wearing one of their Agate T's right now. Very fine thread, very tiny knit, and very smooth. But I have no wool itch problems. Ibex is a pretty sweet and small company in Vermont. i would bet you could ask them to send you a little patch of one of their finer-gauge fabrics so you could check your sensitivity to it.

I am very sorry to say that a friend of mine who has a wool problem - not like me: her skin turns red and she itches no matter what - can't wear Smartwool, Bleu Forêt wool-silk socks, or others... Haven't tried Ibex, but I won't waste it on her, it's very unlikely to work.

My name is mimi and I am a woolieweenie
My husband has the itch problem too. He wears polyprop wicking teeshirts under his wool.
My love affair with wool happened in the late 70's (in the early 70's anything that i owned that couldn't survive being stuffed into a landromat washing machine once a year went to good will)
I find wool at garage sales, goodwill stores, lands end catalogs, why, wool is everywhere! my favorite "undershirt" is a cashmere sweater i bought for 25 dollars. It is too nubby to be attractive as an outside garment, but it is the perfect thing for a cold windy bike ride.
All of my socks are not smartwool because my older son has given me all of his nice cotton ones (he ONLY wears wool socks, he's the one with expensive tastes that lives in the basement)
However, I have a lot of smartwool and I LOVE IT. I was going to buy smartwool sox for most of my cousins in italy until i found out that they are charged for packages from overseas now!!!!

washing machines:
I wash my Ibex stuff probably once a week in the washing machine with cold water.
Icebreaker zip-t neck maybe once every 2 weeks. It developed a hole, which I sewed, so I try to be gentle with it.
Duofold long-johns develop holes every frickin' time I wash them. My next longjohns will be Ibex.
I have a wool turtleneck from Target that looks fragile, but is about 5 years old now. I wash that by hand.
Smartwool socks: washer and dryer no problems
Woolrich jacket goes out in the rain, etc, but has never been washed.
Ibex jacket gets washed in the machine with Dr. Bronner's soap, because I worry the switchback weave will pill.
LL Bean boiled wool jacket has never been washed.
Swanni - never been washed.
Woolrich vest has never been washed, but it goes out in the rain.
Various wool sweaters get washed in the machine, and some even go into the dryer.

My real confession is that I do not wear wool.
I wear cashmere...at least for the upper body stuff!

It's just not a big deal anymore.
Ibex goes into washingmachine but not dryer.

Try being a wool weenie in a place where the summer lasts 8 months and the temps are 40 deg C plus (104 deg F plus) and winter gets "down" to about 10 deg C (50 deg F)... Am I discouraged? No, 1000X no. Wool is an Article of Faith. Wool will never let me down; even if it is wet (and we get 411 mm rain = 16 inches of rain a year!)
I have :
2 wooly winglets (= undershirts without sleeves; one merino and one black with silk round the neck- and arm-holes made in *Italy* therefore very sexy)
3 pure lambswool wool berets (one red of course and one military a la SAS)
2 cashmere/wool scarves (one in "my" tartan and one from Harrods)
2 bush shirts
1 handspun and knitted hat in natural black and white
2 merino-possum hats
1 merino-possum shawl in a glorious shade (blue-green)
1 pair merino-possum finger-ed gloves matching shade to the shawl and one of the hats (above)
1 pair merino-possum socks to match the other hat (above)
1 pair sheepskin mittens ( going strong since 1982)
several pairs of "Norse" socks, most darned beautifully
1 pair Perendale hand-knitted hiking socks
some rugby socks (had 15 pairs at one time in my misspent youth as they were cheap and colourful
2 pairs really pretty and feminine smart-wool socks from my Oct SS (who I am still figuring out)
I am so glad to have found this support group.
I thought I was the only one.
I live in a tiny place and there is noone like me here.

Ibex's Weekly Special

Oh hey you guys be careful about ordering that Neve Ibex jacket on special.
My girlfriend ordered it and I went over to her house to check it out. She got the small size in green. She is very cute and petite with a slim figure. It looked AWFUL on her! It was big and stiff and stuck out in strange ways.
So I said here let me try it on....I'm a size medium. Well it wasn't too big on me, but it still looked awful. Stuck out in weird unattractive ways- like the chest, shoulders, and stomach parts kept sticking out. I just had to say something because it was a really unflattering jacket when we each put it on.
She sent it back. (She does have the Cirque jacket in small in black, and it looks great on her.)
Ibex had the Neve jacket on their weekly special last month for a long time. Then there was no special for a couple weeks, now the Neve is back again. Watch out for that one, I think maybe EVERYONE is sending them back, that's why they keep putting them on weekly special. Happily, you can send it back if you don't like it, but you'll still pay shipping both ways anyway. :(

Aside from socks, I don't have any wool, but my Samrtwool hoodie (the orange one) should be arriving soon.
The only 'problem' is that if it arrives this weekend, it's going to be too warm to wear it. We're having gorgeous, unseasonable weather for Thanksgiving!!!
A complaint we should all have. ;)

I just received my Smart Wool shirt from Steep and Cheep and is is luscious! Very light weight, smooth, and silky. Too light weight to wear as an outside shirt without something underneath it. Which got me to wondering...Does anyone make a merino wool sports bra or shelf-bra camisole? I love the feel of merino wool next to my skin, especially when I'm riding or paddling, but when I start sweating, any bra I am wearing feels damp. Seems like a wool/lycra blend bra would be just the thing for a true wool weenie!

Got my large Smartwool 3/4 sleeve shirt from Steep and Cheap today. I probably would've been ok with a medium, but I'm barely over the idea that I don't need XL!
Tried it on with my CW-X under it. Oopsy, don't wear a black bra under a cayenne wool shirt! Fabric is too thin, say "HI" to the girls!
Fun shirt, though. (with the right foundation garment! :D )
Here's a problem that maybe you woolweenies can solve for me. I was biking home today in the dark wearing wool knee warmers, and the wool kept sticking to the velcro straps around my top tube that were holding on my headlight battery. I suppose my knock knees (from the dreaded W sit) have something to do with the problem. Good thing it was about 50 degrees, so I could stop and take off the knee warmers. Maybe I better stick to lycra knee warmers on after-dark rides.

We've got about 4 or 5 inches, and it doesn't seem to be melting.
I've made the happy discovery that my beloved Levis that I couldn't wear anymore because they were annoyingly loose are PERFECT for wearing over wooly longies!
But why can't I find a matched pair of wool socks? Where did they all go?
And how did SKnot manage to lose a full set of wool long underwear right when he really needs it?

Well we in Vancouver still have about 20 cm on the ground and it ain't going nowhere since it's going to be -5C and less for the next few days/nights. My brother, as it turns out, is just as big a wool fan as I... he introduced me to Swobo wool cycling apparel over the holiday. Does anyone have any Swobo, and what do you think of it? My brother and I went for a Thanksgiving morning mountain bike ride, and had a whole discussion about wool cycling gear. I went to the website and the women's selection is not as wide as the men's (no full-length wool tights, sadly), but there are some wool beauties. :)

Guess I could, but I'd have to waste alot of tape, since I don't keep the battery on the bike except when I need it (since it interferes with my knock knees and my hand hits it when I shift). Maybe I just need to look for a different headlight.

Well, it's official. I'm not a member of the wool weenies club, and never will be. I ordered the Ibex Collo shirt, and it was too itchy so I sent it back. Then I ordered the Steep and Cheap Smartwool shirt last week, and it, too, is too itchy, so I will try to sell it to someone here who didn't get in on the Steep and Cheap deal or I'll send it back. I can wear Smartwool socks (the only way I've found to keep my feet warm on cold morning commutes) but that's it.
It's probably for the best, because being a vegan I have issues with wool anyway, but I was hoping to find a way to stay a bit warmer on my cold commutes with a nice warm base layer. The search continues...

Learned a little lesson today- that merino microweight is not perfect in every way.
I was taking off my Smartwool microweight longsleeve crewneck shirt today (in Orchid color), and I was pulling the cuff rather roughly to get it off my arm...and my finger poked right through the fabric making a little hole!!
Mind you, i have like NO fingernails sticking out beyond my fingers at ALL, so this was just a case of my fingertip pushing too hard, right through the fabric.
So, fellow WW's, we must actually attempt to TAKE CARE of our precious woolens, they are not completely indestructable, despite rumors to the contrary. :o

We must also watch out for moths. (I didn't want to say that too loudly)
Last week I gave in to wool lust and ordered an Ibex T-shirt. Very nice attractive shirt, but I'm afraid the extra fabric in the color piping over the shoulders may not feel good under a backpack. But I'll find plenty of other uses for the shirt. Though I'll avoid wrenching in it - don't want to try and wash bike grease out of expensive wool.

But I'll find plenty of other uses for the shirt. Though I'll avoid wrenching in it - don't want to try and wash bike grease out of expensive wool.
In addition to wrenching, we should try to avoid retching in our expensive wool shirts as well.

LOL. Good one, Lisa. Though I might be able to stay clean while retching, and I definitely can't while wrenching. And I guess we should avoid wringing as well (while laundering, that is).

DebW - those Agate T's are mighty nice. I have a pale purple-y one. The Qu-T doesn't have piping, that might work better under pack straps. The fabric also seems to be a bit heavier.
Here's the link to DivingBiker's Smartwool 3/4 length sleeves.
http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?p=148412&posted=1#post148412
I just got mine, same color, in size L. I like it quite a bit. The fabric is pretty light, on a par with Ibex's Qu-T but not as light as the Agate T. Certainly not as heavy as Ibex's Norge/Norse crew! The 3/4 length sleeves are kinda cute. The orange part sticking out has a slit all the way to the gray (sort of a floppy French cuff) The torso is nice and long for me, plenty to tuck in but it still looks ok out. In person the orange is a pretty happy deep peachy color. Not garish. I'm a red-head and I can get away with this orange.

Hmmm, you must have much longer arms than I do, because the sleeves are pretty much long sleeves on me. They end just barely above my wrists. I wish I could wear this shirt, because I really like the style of it.

Washed my dang-blasted wool duofold longjanes last night, and was congratulating myself that THIS time they didn't spontaneously sprout holes all along the seams. (probably cuz there is so much extra stitching along there by now!) Pulled 'em on - OOPS! Several holes up near the waist. Wore 'em anyway. Sick 'n tired of sewing them up.
I need new wooly longjanes!
I was all set to get these from Duluth Trading Co, until I read the bit about the cotton crotch gusset. Uh-oh.

seriously, in my forays into goodwill stores looking for wool, unless i absolutely fall in love with a particular sweater, I just go by the label.
if i really like it, I don't care what it's made of. But by looking for labels you can come up with a lot of nice wool.
If you like wool shirts, spend some time in the men's section. And men's wool trousers make good winter hiking pants. Though it can take some looking to find things small enough for most women.

1. Just a little cotton short-sleeved pullover, orange and white striped to wear with jeans or a skirt.
2. An Ann Taylor merino wool/cashmere blend, v-neck, tan. Looks new.
3. A Lands End 100% cashmere pullover, maroon or burgundy. A little wrinkled, but once that's taken care of, should look new also.

I've worn it by itself and as an underlayer.
Smartwool seems to be pretty lightweight. I only have one Smartwool shirt, but I have to say <drops into a whisper> I think the quality on the Ibex shirts is a bit better than Smartwool shirt I have. The tailoring is certainly better fitting, the stitching is much cleaner, and the fabric feels smoother.
Check the Ibex Outlet page often, they put new stuff/new colors on it frequently. I think I've gotten almost all my Ibex from the Outlet page.

I went to Value village up in the "good" Neighborhood, Lake city..
I bought a NICE pair of charcoal wool slacks with liner and
a fine but dense (shrunk once) v neck sweater which will be a perfect undergarment. I was thinking about the question "how will i know it is wool
if it doesn't have a label" while I went through all their stuff.
the things that are very very soft are NOT wool unless they have a really hairy appearance, and then they are angora (goat), rabbit (angora), or mohair.(goat)
or they are blended with a synthetic.
Wool even soft wool (like Merino) is going to be a tiny bit scratchy..
CASHMERE... is goat hair! (I just learned something. So wool lovers you can love sheep AND goats I do :)
ps it's better to go wool shopping at second hand stores in the summer.

Well those Ibex Approach sale tights got here and they are AWESOME!
So nice and thick and stretchy- I love the way they feel against my bare skin- they have a very pleasant soft subtle nubbly texture, like a gentle massage while wearing them. I HAD to order a pair for myself as well. Interestingly, although the mediums do fit me well (snug, like you expect tights to fit), I like the slightly more relaxed feeling of the large, so I am getting a large for myself. They are very luxurious! I can actually wear them around to places when not biking, because they are not as revealing as thin tight lycra tights. I can't even imagine why they would be on sale in the first place!
Where do they sit between the hips and waist?
I read somewhere that the waist was quite high and I just can't handle anything close to my bellybutton... :(

Well, we are all shaped diferently, but...
It's not a "low-rise" or hip hugger type waist. I would call it a "normal" waist height, not "quite high"- but I guess terminology may have changed. The waist on the tights seems to fall right at my belly button- which is about an inch below my natural waist. (my natural waist being the narrowest part of my waist). I myself like both lowrise and regular waists in clothes.
Got a piercing, or just a sensitive belly button? ;)

dEBw,
I posted in post #53 of this thread how I was rather surprised when I poked my finger right through my SmartWool crew base layer sleeve while pulling it off casually. I hadn't thought about how wool is not indestructable! I am more careful now with my definitely NOT cheap woolies.
Were you wearing your SW glove liners as outer gloves? That might explain why they did not hold up to abrasion, grabbing tree trunks, etc- they are meant to be worn inside other gloves- probably woven to be soft and thin rather than durable.
You could still sew up the holey fingertips and wear your liners under big work gloves or under mittens, etc.

I was never one to wear wool, but after reading here, I had to try it. I was absolutely truly laughing out loud at Lisa's 12-steps for woolweenies! Pure genius!
My first purchase was an Ibex switchback midlayer, got it a week or so ago, at a great price ($34)from SierraTrading (I think I got the last one). I wear it to bike, to shop, to surf the channels from my sofa, it keeps me comfy in all conditions, and I feel quite smart in it if I must say so myself
Then I saw Mimi's post about getting even better deals from the Goodwill. So yesterday I shopped at a Goodwill store in a nice neighborhood. I was so excited to find a great baselayer, 100% merino (it's skin tight, but it's a baselayer), and a really cute every-day sweater, also 100% merino, for 4 bux each! One label is "Ann Taylor", the other "abercrombie and fitch". I'd NEVER pay full price for either of those brands, but at 4 bux each, ya it's a sweet deal!
What I love most about the wool for riding is that it doesn't grab the stink like the tech layers, and it stays dry. I'm looking forward to trying the wool baselayer later today on a ride.
Last Saturday I was riding on 40 miler and we stopped halfway for lunch. By the time we got back on the bikes, my baselayer (a polyester jersey) was fairly damp and I stayed chilled for 10 minutes or so. Once I warmed back up I was OK. I hope the wool baselayer will prevent this from happening again.
You guys are great, thanks for dragging me into your addictions ;)
Colleen

Yes, I was wearing the liner gloves as outer gloves, and grabbing tree limbs with them. Nothing heavy-duty (switched to leather gloves for that), but still... I only paid $10 for them, so not a huge loss. They were great under my lobster-claw cycling mitts, so maybe I'll try to sew up the holey finger and thumb.

Fellow Woolweenies,
I have become addicted to wearing my merino Ibex sale Approach tights.
At first I wore them only once every few days, over my chamois tights for cycling to keep extra warm.
Then I noticed they felt really good on my bare legs, so I started wearing them around the house when I wasn't cycling.
Now I'm wearing them every day- over my tights when biking, and just by themselves every day, everywhere I go. They are somewhat thick wool and they fit me like ski/pant/tights - snug, but not too tight or revealing to wear in public. I walk up and down the aisles at the supermarket, and no one I pass by suspects that I'm getting a wooly leg massage right there in the cereal aisle.
They feel so good.
I know I can confess here....you'll all understand and won't think less of me.
Sometimes I arrange my day so I can wear them more.
Sometimes I put them on before I get dressed.
I tend to associate with friends who also wear a lot of wool, and avoid those who wear acryllic.
Sometimes I can't remember that I'm wearing them.
I've been late for work because of endlessly picking cat hairs off my Ibex wool tights. (good thing I'm self-employed)
I keep an extra bottle of Woolite hidden down in the laundry room.
I swear, though, I can stop wearing them any time!

Whoo Hooo! :D Nice photo as well. :)
I am so glad that Lisa is part of the WoolWeenies club. Her posts just crack me up. I'm afraid that my army surplus wool pants, rather than providing a "wooly leg massage", give me chafed knee caps. I only wear them in temperatures below freezing.
Are the Approach better than the Loose Tights??

Yesterday, since I didn't want to stay in the office (finished up my last appt before the holiday) I decided to go to Goodwill. Got a men's merino sweater, kinda brown/burgundy 3 button with a collar for $6.
I love my little treasure hunts.

The loose tights are more like slim pants that drape nicely from the hips down. The approach tights are more like tights- they are more form fitting, especially around the calves and ankles.

starting to sound a little like a cult

But what exactly is "Dri-release wool"? Is it 100% wool, or a blend? Sounds sort of like a fabric blend brand name. and what is "FreshGuard odor neutralizer" and why would a pure wool top need that? Sounds a bit suspicious to me, but then I've got a measure of skepticism in me naturally...

I feel your pain. Obviously the army doesn't care about how soft their wool items are. They probably use steel wool in their pants, for tough guys with iron kneecaps. Good thing they don't make bras!

I think it's a blend of 10% wool, 90% synthetic (polyester, coolmax, fleece).

Steel wool - you're probably right. Would protect soldiers from electrical fields as well.

And you like the tights more (for indoors wearing)?

[Feeling weak.....]
I like them because they are thick enough and not so tight (like Lycra) --so that they don't show EVERY little body detail and nook and cranny like my Lycra/Spandex tights do, and like my UnderArmour tights do. (keep in mind I might be a bit more brave about this than some women) But they are still shapely, being "tights". I feel sort of like I'm wearing ski pants in them, but without the weird back-of-knee-tent ski-pant thing going on.
My friend has the Ibex Loose Tights and they look great on her and I love the thick wool with the nice drap they have. They are great casual wool pants. But the Loose Tights are shaped more like straight pants at the bottom.
I like my Approach tights also because they are snug around the ankle (like tights) so I can tuck them in to my mukluk/shearling boots without them bunching the way pants do.
In general I'd say if you feel selfconscious in biking knickers then you might want to get the Loose Tights rather than the Approach tights. Now they only have the Approach sale tights left in L and XL. The Loose Tights are not on sale but have a full color and size selection available. I like that Tar color!

From what you are saying I would think the Loose Tights might be the right choice- they look REALLY nice on my friend! Perfect for everyday wear.
She's pretty tiny and the Smalls fit her nicely. Judging from seeing hers, I would probably take Mediums myself and I am usually a size medium....if that's any help.

I agree that this would be a wise and practical purchase, esp. if you have a sizeable stash of woolens. I have my mother's cedar chest and it's the perfect storage spot for not only my woolly things but also some particularly heavy and precious cotton sweaters. Plus, it's just a lovely piece of furniture.

merry christmas,
this year for Christmas my parents got me a lot of goodies! I got the icebreaker exp ignition zip and two bodyfit 260 wool crew shirts from icebreaker too. They are super warm and comfy. They also got me a flashdrive so I can save my work- how practical of them this year! (also a sad face for returning to school :( ) My big brother also got me a nice wool coat. So I can look stylish and warm no matter what I am doing! My other brother got me a bike repair book and a gift certificate to REI (ahem so I can pay for them to service my bike when I am too frustrated.

Ladies in the PNW! I need your help!!

Here's the Kavu info, that'll at least get you in the neighborhood. You could call them and ask for the name of the 2nd run sports store. ("2nd Ascent" or something?)

We're here to support you in your decision to dress head-to-toe in wool.
Hi KnottedYet and other "woolweenies"! I couldn't resist jumping into this discussion and I hope you all won't mind my presence. I need to first say that I work for Ibex, so obviously I am highly biased toward the wonders of wool and specifically of Ibex merino for cycling and other pursuits. ;) I see that some of you have discovered a couple of our most popular "lifestyle" type pieces, like the Ultimate Guide and the Loose Tights, but has no-one been turned on to our jerseys (like the La Luna) or shorts and knickers (El Fitos)? I'm hungry for feedback, ideas, suggestions, etc., so I'll be on the lookout for wool-for-cycling related thoughts, be they complimentary or critical. I love cycling, too, so I'm looking forward to being in this forum (my first one!) Thanks for listening, and happy trails to those of you who are riding through the winter. Maybe after living in Vermont for a couple more years I'll be tough enough to commute to work in the snow!

Many of us have the cycling knickers! I wear them or my Terry Precision skorts when I ride. If I ever decided to go to a pair of plain shorts again, I'd buy the Ibex shorts.
The jerseys are too expensive for me. I don't buy jerseys anyway, because I need long sleeves all the time and because they are too much money to spend on a "single use" thing.
My usual cycling top is my Ibex Norgie long sleeve crew. If it's really hot I just wear a tank-top with my long sleeved SPF shirt (Kokatat) over it. I would love to be able to get the athletic-style Ibex tank top again, with built-in bra.
Shagge - go through the entire "apparel" forum, there are many other discussions of wool clothing.
And the wool-weenies will be HAPPY to bend your ear! Sizing! Colors! Styles! We are your ideal test market: active, opinionated, and erudite!

Thanks KnottedYet! "Active, opinionated, and erudite"--sounds like my kind of crowd! I was going to say you all seemed "fit, smart, and savvy" before, but I was being shy. Since my last post I did poke around in the "Apparel" forum a bit more and saw several more conversations about wool-while-cycling. I felt a little silly for missing those before, but hopefully I'm getting with the program now. Thanks for helping me navigate.
The Norgie is a good choice for cool weather cycling, especially since you're trying to be smart with your $ and buy clothing that works for other activities and occasions (though I have kept my Serrano on all day long because I actually think it's quite stylish and super comfy).
This is the Ibex I wear on the bike, in case anyone is curious.
In the summer: Asta Sport Top (with shelf bra). Oh, and here's some good news--we're working on a "seamless" merino line of underwear (sports bras, tops, briefs, runner shorts, and even thongs!) that will kick the Asta's *** (imo).:p
Also in the summer, I wear the Peregrine tank top and the La Luna (not at the same time). I don't have the shorts yet because my friend in the design department tells me the fit will be much improved next season (we had some issues before, but we've worked them out).
In the fall: Serrano top (longsleeve). Mine has a half-zip but the newer version is full-zip. Mine also has two diagonal zip pockets in back, which are great for keys, goo, an energy bar, cell phone, etc. One disadvantage of pockets in this fabric is that the pockets stretch out if you load them with heavy stuff (but it springs back when you wash the jersey). The Serrano fabric, by the way, is similar in weight and feel to the Norgie, so it gives the same amount of warmth, breathablity, and comfort.
Also in the fall, I wear the El Fitos. I absolutely love these, especially because they don't make my skin feel suffocated like lycra does.
In the winter (before I whimp out) I wear a Woolies Zip-T baselayer top under my Serrano. If I need some wind blocking or if it's rainy, I wear my Floe Vest (wool softshell) or my Neve Jacket (we aren't making this any more, and I'm sad about that. I think it rocks, for teleskiing too, but we just weren't selling enough.)
Oh, and I can't forget the Meru Hat. We give these away when we sponsor cycling events, and people rave and rave about them. They are great under helmets.
It sounds like most of you live in warmer climes (am I wrong?), but if you do any cycling in frigid temps, our Loden Gloves and Kilometer Gloves do a good job keeping your digits warm.
My husband and I rode the Great Divide a few years ago, before we re-discovered wool, and I swear we would have been much happier (and less smelly) campers had we traded in our plastic layers for wool ones.
Anyway, I've probably gone on too long. Send me your sizing, color, and style suggestions, and I'll forward them along to our head designer. She'll LOVE hearing your feedback!

Wool underwear! YES YES YES!!!!! (just make sure those shorts have long legs so they don't creep around...;) )
I can hardly wait! Wool underwear tops... mmmmm. Wool underwear shorts... mmm
I love my Roaster Boxers, don't mind the seams. You won't stop making them, will you?
Ibex sizes work peachy for me (Large in everything, tops and bottoms, and the sleeves are LONG enough, which is always a real treat!) But I know some of the other TE'rs have sizing issues.
(hey, does Ibex need a rep in Seattle? :) )
Shagge
12-29-2006, 12:11 PM
No, we'll keep making the Roasters as long as people keep buying them! The seamless pieces will be lighter weight than the Roasters.
Long sleeves are an Ibex specialty. Cyclists and nordic skiiers generally love this, but others (I hear) have to roll up cuffs on occasion.
What are some other sizing issues amongst the TE'rs?

This is the Ibex I wear on the bike, in case anyone is curious.
Also in the fall, I wear the El Fitos. I absolutely love these, especially because they don't make my skin feel suffocated like lycra does.
Shagge, what is the chamois/pad like in the El Fitos? They got a rave review on the adventurecycling site.
I'm hungry for feedback, ideas, suggestions, etc., so I'll be on the lookout for wool-for-cycling related thoughts, be they complimentary or critical.
Well, since you asked, why are women's T-shirts made with such short arms? I find that I get chafed in the upper arms while paddling or hiking with poles if the short sleeves aren't long enough. So I mostly wear either men's or unisex T-shirts. I picked up a women's Agate T on sale and really wish the sleeves were longer. Also wish it didn't have the extra piping fabric on top of the shoulders because that could be irritating under pack straps. I know I could have gotten a Qu T in mens and avoided these problems, but it wasn't on sale, and I never know if men's small or medium will fit better.

Welcome Shagge!
(and thanks Knot for alerting me to the new Woolweenie action flurry!) ;)
I would be too embarrassed to admit how much Ibex stuff I have "invested" in this year.
Just today, DH and I went on a 35 mile, almost 4 hour ride in 31degrees F.
Here's what I wore, from head to foot:
-Louis Garneau junior balaclava
-SmartWool helmet liner
-Helmet
-Underarmour sport bra
-Ibex woolies base layer (longsleeve)
-SmartWool crewneck LS base layer
-Salvation Army thick merino turtleneck
-SheBeest WindPro jacket
-polarfleece liner gloves
-Ibex Climawool gloves
-Shebeest long Tech Tights w/chamois
-Ibex Approach tights
-Smartwool knee socks
-very thick hi-tech hiking socks
-Thinsulate heavy hiking boots
At the end of our ride, I was not tired, but my fingers were much colder than I would have liked, and my toes were very painfully cold. Other than that, I was fine! :p
You asked for Ibex suggestions, here are mine:
I got Approach tights on sale this xmas for my 2 grown daughters & one "daughter-in-love"- they all LOVE them! I am addicted to my Approach tights- I wear them when cycling and when not cycling. :p They feel so good against the skin, and I love that they are thick. I did get an "Amelia" LS Ibex top on sale, I like the shape but I think it is just too see-through. Good for sleeping in I guess.
I would like to see your colors change more frequently.
Also, your "weekly special" has been the Neve jacket for what seems like Forever.
I don't buy "jerseys" per se- I find short sleeves very unflattering on me. I always wear either longsleeve, 3/4 sleeve, or tank tops (no sleeves). I like wearing regular merino tops for cycling- not specifically "cycling jerseys".
I too would like to see some more underwear from Ibex. Especially tank tops with built in bra shelf and SKINNY straps so they don't show at the neckline.
I wish there were more color choices for the Woolies line. I also would like to see more turtlenecks or mockturtlenecks WITHOUT zippers. There IS such a thing as having too many tops with zippers, zippers are not "cuddly". ;)
I love my Switchback pullovers and vest. I got them in Persimmon because they would be visible to traffic on the road.
Thanks for asking!!!

Shagge, my Ibex wishlist includes:
1. Make the cycling knickers shorter for us petite gals. The end of the El Fito tights hits me right on the widest part of the calf, instead of somewhere between the knee and the bulge of the calf.
2. Make the cycling jerseys sleeveless or with cute little cap sleeves. Longish sleeves don't show off my nice girly muscles, they just make my arms look pudgy.
3. Wool bras (real bras, with underwires, in big boob sizes) and undies (prefer thong but could settle for bikini).
That is all. :p

Shagge - could Ibex offer things in petite length, but keep making the long length, too? I have a terrible time finding things that are long enough in the legs and arms, and just adore the fact that Ibex Large fit me perfectly. For example: Dianyla could use a knicker with shorter legs, but if all the knickers had shorter legs I would weep bitter tears.
Maybe try offering petites in a few basics and see how they sell?
And I've heard the call for XXL Ibex several times. Again, maybe a few carefully chosen (by the wool-weenies, of course!;) ) basics and see how they sell?
The women's market is out there. Look at how well Terry does with their signature bike short offered in 3 lengths for each size. Or Columbia with their basic chino styles each offered in 3 lengths for each size. Hind running pants, offered in lengths for each size.
Women want and need the length options just as much as men do. If Ibex had a little sub-specialty going on with lengths it could be pretty popular among the talls-and-smalls.
Edit: wool is on the upswing of popularity again, and more companies are throwing wool into the works. Ibex could have another selling point besides wool and Ibex's great quality: multiple sizes/lengths for women!

Shagge,
I would love to love Ibex but I can't- the sizes are never right. I am 5'2 and 115. Everything is too big/loose on me. It may seem vain, but I am proud of my figure and I would like to show it off. I tried the long trail sweater and the switchback zip but they were too big for me. Its not just the very long sleeves, they were too big even when I was excessively layering. I know these sweaters are meant to be looser but I could have fit a beach ball under there.
I was sad to return the long trail sweater it seemed pretty warm and I liked the colors (moon blue), but it had to go. Besides loose clothing to me seems like a hazard. You can't row with it. It gets caught in things. You can;t bike in it. It is too flappy. You can't ski with it. It is too hard to layer over the folds of extra cloth.
I wish that Ibex would carry more xs sizes and petite. Oh and bring back the ultimate guide sweater in those sizes- that would be great.
I don't wear jerseys because I think it would be such an investment when I only bike in half hour chunks. I don't even know what I am missing. I wear an rei wool zip (bought in that short period when they carried it) and that makes me pretty happy. Also when I am done biking I can just roll in to school without changing my outfit.
Please do what you can so i can wear Ibex!

Hi Shagge and welcome to TE, thanks for reading us!
I am with Madscot. I am currently wearing the Ultimate Guide Sweater and love it dearly. However it's the only piece of Ibex clothing that has fitted me so far. I have bought the cycling shorts last year along with a jersey, and they were not for my body shape (5'4" and 120 lbs or so). I have hips and thighs (but barely boobs) but I would have needed a tummy to fit in there. Maybe a XS would have worked. I was quite disappointed as the material is exceptional, and the chammy seemed quite good.
I was at REI in Seattle last week (I live in Canada) and tried the lovely full-zip hoodie (Carrie) in small and it was also way too big. I usually wear a medium or small in typical REI sizes.
From what I've read I think we need more sizes to reflect the diversity of our bodies. I understand it might be difficult for a small company!!
Thanks for reading!

Wool sports bras,
Wool camis with shelf bra, and
Wool underwear (normal sized, not with the 'legs')
So hard to find these types of things.

Shagge, what is the chamois/pad like in the El Fitos?
It's a 3D, seamless chamois with stretch nylon panel. I find it a bit heftier than other chamois I've worn, but it's super comfortable on the bike and it doesn't move around too much.
Well, since you asked, why are women's T-shirts made with such short arms?
The Agate T did have shorter, cap sleeves, and the piping is a style feature. I would not necessarily recommend this shirt for backpacking because of the these features. Last spring we introduced the Echo T for both men and women, and this shirt has slightly longer sleeves. It is made of the same 17.5 micron merino as the Agate, so it will feel just as comfortable and light.
Thanks for the questions!

[QUOTE=Lisa S.H.;156161]Welcome Shagge!
Thanks for your welcome and for all your great suggestions Lisa S.H! No need to be embarrassed by your Ibex investments (but of course I would say that, right?) I have made note of all your suggestions to pass along to design/production. Also, I will find out what's going on with the specials. I know that they are now called "web specials" because (as you noticed) we haven't been offering a different one each week.
Would you like to see more bright colors (for visibility sake) in our Woolies, or do you wear your Woolies as a baselayer only?
I also wanted to point out that we have a new and improved version of the Approach Tight now--it's called the Energy TIght and it uses the same material but has a revised fit (lower rise) and ankle zips.

Hey Shagge - I want 2 more pair of Roaster Boxers. I can get 'em from Altrec for $30 each right now. If they are likely to go on sale at Ibex for a similar price, I can wait. (does Ibex make more money if I get 'em from the Ibex outlet or from Altrec?) Any hints to help me plan my shopping? ;)
Hi KnottedYet,
If you found a deal at Altrec, go for it. I appreciate your offer to buy directly, but we do like to support our dealers as well. It's all good for us!
Thanks for your support.

Shagge, my Ibex wishlist includes:
1. Make the cycling knickers shorter for us petite gals. The end of the El Fito tights hits me right on the widest part of the calf, instead of somewhere between the knee and the bulge of the calf.
Noted. Will pass this along!
2. Make the cycling jerseys sleeveless or with cute little cap sleeves. Longish sleeves don't show off my nice girly muscles, they just make my arms look pudgy.
Check out this jersey: http://www.ibexwear.com/F06/View_Product.php?GarmentID=671&thePhoto=../Photos/F06/2027_5275.jpg&Category=1050&CategoryLine=
The sleeves are a bit shorter and tighter than the sleeves on our other cycling jerseys. We make a sleeveless jersey (the Ventoux) for men that may work for you?
3. Wool bras (real bras, with underwires, in big boob sizes) and undies (prefer thong but could settle for bikini).
Wool underwire bras? Now there's an idea! THe thong will be along before too long!
That is all. :p
Muchas gracias!

Shagge,
I would love to love Ibex but I can't- the sizes are never right. I am 5'2 and 115.
Please do what you can so i can wear Ibex!
Hi Madscot13,
Have you given the Shak a try? It's a more form-fitting garment than the Long Trail, Switchback, and Ultimate Guide, and also one of our most popular because of its flattering fit and bomb-proof merino fabric. I think the Shak would be a better bet for activities like rowing and cycling than the more traditional sweater pieces (Long Trail, Ultimate Guide). It comes in half-zip, full-zip, and hooded versions.

As you can see from other recent posts, we have a challenge here at Ibex to build garments that will work for women (and men) of all shapes and sizes. We're still a small company, so we have to pick and choose which garments to offer in a wider size range. You all can help us make those choices, though we do have to be confident that they will sell before we build 'em.
You can also search by size on our website by typing in, say, XS, in the search box. http://www.ibexwear.com/F06/Sizing_Search.php
I wonder if an XS vest would work for you?
Thanks Madscott13 and all the other wool fans for your suggestions on Ibex sizing!

I have bought the cycling shorts last year along with a jersey, and they were not for my body shape
We did have some trouble with the sizing of our Classica Road Shorts, but the new version (the Calais, available this spring) has an improved fit and a lighter weight fabric.
But I've added your general sizing comments to my "list" for production and will pass them along! Thanks.

YEP, more bright colors!
I like the persimmon because cars can see me when I ride better. I would LOVE to see a nice rich yellow MANGO color! And maybe a bright spring LETTUCE green. Beautiful bright BLUEBIRD color! And rich TOMATO! I would wear these colors not only biking, but I like to sleep in my Woolies, and I love to layer rich colors for every day wear too.

I grudgingly sent back the cobalt ibex cirque softshell I ordered. Thank you, Shagge, for listening to our suggestions for more wonderful wool garments. Why is it everytime I look at the "apparel" thread I end up spending money??? This has got to stop....I DO need a 12 step program, not for just wool, but for internet stores in general. It is just too damn easy to spend, spend, spend. Don't even have to get up off the chair.
Just came back from cycling with my smart wool socks, and smartwool half zip top....they do such a great job keeping you comfortable but not sweaty. Just such a comfortable feel. Good thing that they don't smell as DH and I only have one top each. Anyway all during the ride in today's lovely 70 degree weather I could hear that Dash Hybrid jacket calling me. And it will get colder this winter, right??? So.....ordered the Dash Hybrid jacket from Ibex for me in that lovely red, and one for DH in black. (black matches all his other very black cycling clothes). After all, we don't have any nice jackets like that for active type sports, and it is such a great price.....

I have an Icebreaker Tech Top zip-t neck. http://www.icebreaker.com/site/icebreaker_woman_bodyfit260_tech_top.html?thumb_value=Black It's a large, which is what I wear in just about every brand including Ibex (my gold standard). The tech top is about as fitted on me as on the model in the picture, maybe slightly looser.
If I were to order any other Icebreaker top, I'd feel pretty safe ordering a large again.

Are they the M&S Wool tights with feet? If so I have a couple pairs of those from just a slightly later vintage! I hadn't thought of them in ages and must dig them out tonight.
I've always been a fan of natural fibres but I was completely unaware of clothing brands like Ibex, IceBreaker, Smartwool etc until reading this forum. It's a slippery slope - I bought an Arcteryx merino tshirt and loved it. After reading posts on merino tights I bought Ibex tights (a discontinued style I think - called Rendezvous?) and now an Icebreaker tshirt.

I've got woolies from the 70s. A LS Protogs T-shirt. Stil-long long underwear pants. A wool balaclava. Wool Dachstein mittens. Wool fishnet underwear. Some of the old stuff has moth holes.
My Stil-long underwear is the dark blue men's with fly. The women's only came with stirrups under the feet and in powder blue.

Hi Again Knotted Yet,
The Climawool Cirrus material on the front of the Dash Hybrid jacket is similar in weight to the Climawool Lite on your El Fitos, but the Cirrus is more weather (wind and water) resistant. The fabric on the back more like the fabric of the El Fitos (a stretchy knit wool)
I wouldn't describe it as "heftier" than the Switchback, but it is definitely more of a performance piece and I think well worth the investment. Don't forget we are very liberal with our exchange/return policy--take it for a ride and see if it works for you!

The good news is, Portland Cyclewear just started using a new type of wool. It's still 100% merino but it's supposed to shrink a lot less.
And the bad news is, they're behind schedule on account of switching to the new wool. So it goes.
If & when I get my jersey, I'll let y'all know if it seems less prone to shrinking than their previous jerseys.

Hi Deb,
I have a Goretex rain biking jacket too. Paid a LOT for it. It worked well as a windbreaker/rain jacket when I was camping. But the two times I wore it on cool rainy biking rides it made me sweat like mad- I felt I was suffocating in a plastic bag. I much prefer my SheBeest Windpro jacket, which though not waterPROOF is water resistant and certainly cuts the wind. But best of all it breathes and keeps me warm and cuddly though I can still feel some air circulation. It seems to work well in many temp ranges. Very versatile for me, especially with a merino base layer or two under it.
P.S. Knot- it's interesting that the Ibex sale items found under "Special>web specials" are all different items than the sale items found under "Outlet>women's outlet".....??
I would think that 88% polyester content would definitely cause some odor though, especially under the Gortex jacket -if it's anything like my Goretex jacket!
I have had better luck when I wear a 100% merino thin base layer UNDER a polyester top so as to discourage the underarm bacteria that always multiply in polyester environs.

It was the shirt that smelled. And Goretex was appropriate because it was supposed to rain all day, but stopped about the time we started hiking. Didn't really sweat much because I wasn't hiking fast and I opened the pit zips when I got hot.

I think "Outlet" is older stuff Ibex isn't making any more. Clearance type stuff.
"Specials" seem like they are current items or newly introduced items.

Today I'm wearing my OR Sequence T, 12% wool, 88% polyester from Steep and Cheap for $12.74.
I got one of those too. I like my 12% wool, 88% polyester from Steep and Cheap for $12.74 shirt. It's much better than any of my 100% polyester shirts, I may never wear those again.:)

And thus begins the addiction... a few wool blends (while making snide remarks to your nearest and dearest about how much $$ full-wool costs), but I sense 100% wool in your future, young lady!;)
She's been sucked into the vortex. THERE IS NO ESCAPE.

Got the Ibex Dash Jackets last week, just didn't really get to look too closely as there was so much going on. They are not heavy, but more medium weight, but the front seems like it would be quite windproof. The back is a like a stretchy warm sweater. The L womens fit me nicely everywhere but the length, where I feel it is too short for me. I am long waisted, and also 5'8". The sleeves were long enough, the shoulders fit well, and it was not baggy. The mens is much longer, and dips more in the back, which I like. However, I tried on my husbands L, which is too baggy everywhere, but the length is lovely. So I don't know whether to try the mens medium. My husband is definitely keeping his, but I "sob" have to send the womens back. These jackets are beautiful for the money. However, if you are a tall women, I would recommend trying the mens.
Any ideas from the Ibex rep who posts here? I would appreciate it!

Darn, I hope Ibex isn't shortening their women's sizes! I'm 5'8" and long-armed, and wear a L in everything. Sounds like the L Dash wouldn't fit me at all!!!
Thanks for the Dash Jacket report!

I tried the dang jacket again.....I keep hoping the thing fits. Part of the problem is I have wide hips, and the jacket is riding up slightly.....looking shorter than it really is. If I pull it straight down tight it hits my high hip, and dips slightly in the back. This would be fine if it would stay, but it won't. I was just thinking maybe I should go to an XL. This is annoying, because an XL is usually huge on me.....but if the shoe fits.... I just wonder if the XL is any longer in length than the L....

And here I'd promised myself not to buy any new cycling gear in January....
But I needed the long tights. Just ordered 'em. Thanks for the heads up. All they have left are L and XL, if anybody else is interested.
Just an update -- Lisa's highly recommended Ibex Approach wool tights (on sale, no less) arrived and I've been wearing them constantly since. SO warm and comfy.
Thanks for the heads up, Lisa!

I am sooooo bummed that I can't afford to buy anything right now! Is there a lotto just for wool weenies with a guaranteed pay-out?

I know what you mean, Knot.. I haven't been able to buy any wool for WEEKS
because of the budget going towards other things. and now i am thinking about a frame    what am I crazy? Yup crazy in love.
There was a pair of wool long johns on sale for 25 bucks at someplace like Sierra Traders right after/before Christmas (cranberry colored) that i resisted and now I am having serious regrets!
I have been wearing tights every day for a while and none of them are wool. (under my work slacks)

Oh I'm so glad! And I'm wearing mine right NOW...
They are so comfy I wear them almost every day now whether I'm biking or not.
The only problem I have is the cat hair magnet effect of wool. But you just wet your palm and "roll" the hair down your leg into a little clump and pick it off. :D

Anyone have both the Zephyr T-neck (http://www.ibexwear.com/F06/View_Product.php?GarmentID=588&thePhoto=../Photos/F06/614_7377.jpg&Category=1049&CategoryLine=)and the Woolies T-neck (http://www.ibexwear.com/F06/View_Product.php?GarmentID=566&thePhoto=../Photos/F06/0123_5843.jpg&Category=1049&CategoryLine=)?
I have the Zephyr in a medium. It fits just right for outwear but not tight enough for layering under a tailored jersey. Since the Woolies says it is a form fit, do you think I can order the same size and have it truly be formfitting without being clautrophobically tight? Does the arm length change? I need long arms in my cycle clothing.
I wish they made the Zephyr in a form fit because the weight would be just perfect under some of my jerseys. I wonder how much shorter the arms would be in a small.

According to Ibex, the L womens dash hybrid jacket is 20 3/4" in the front and 24.5 in the back. The extra large is about a 1/2" longer correspondingly. I would love to have a jacket that is just a touch longer, especially in the back. The mens jacket must be about 5" longer all the way around. I was going to order the mens in red in medium, BUT of course now they only have it in small!
Maybe I am not supposed to have this? Any suggestions on other winter jackets people use cycling????

Did you check the Ibex jackets on clearance at www.rei-outlet.com ?
I only looked at a couple, but it seems like there were 3 or 4 when I was there. (they could be sold out now, but it might be worth checking)
