If so, how do you like them? I am going to be getting a Bike Friday built for touring, and these have been recommended to me by the Bike Friday folks, for use with drop bars and mountain gearing, brakes, and wider tires. I have used STI in the past and currently use Campy Ergo-shifters on my road bike for club rides and events. I love the Ergo-shifters, but they won't work on Bike Fridays, so I have to decide between STI shifters/brake levers and bar-cons. STI is more finicky and doesn't work as well with the brakes needed for wider tires and the mountain gearing that I'll need for loaded touring, so I am leaning towards bar-cons since they are simpler and will allow me to use better brakes for the 406 rims. It may also be less confusing for me changing back and forth between Ergo-shifters and bar-cons than it is to go between Ergo-shifters and STI, which seem almost backwards to each other.

I'm just looking for some feedback on bar-cons since I've never used them.

Thanks!
Emily

Thom has barcons on his Riv (I have Silver Shifters - no index mode only friction) He leaves his in friction mode and likes them.

They were pretty easy to learn to use. They'll clack if you need to trim your shift and eventually you can tell by the sound which way to trim.
