View Full Version : Cycling goals for 2007

3weight

Hi! While I was on my bike this morning I was thinking about what I'd like to do next year in terms of cycling. I think I'm going to shoot for......
1. The Five Star Century Series~ 5 months/5 centuries
2. Do more MTB
3. *Hopefully* do the Seattle to Portland ride

So what are your cycling goals for 2007?
Cheers!
Teresa :)

I'm thinking about doing the MS City to Shore in New Jersey. I'm pretty much starting again after a long time off, so completing a half-century (on my own would be fine) would be good, too.

I'm going to try and do a brevet series. Been also thinking about the Cal Triple Crown.

I'm going to work on doing my first official metric century (I'm close now, and and hopefully I can do more than one), do more mtb riding, and do more riding/exploring elsewhere on the island. And try to find a nice mellow club to ride with, unlike the uber-fanatical-car-hating one I'm in now. Yeesh.
Oh, and add at least one more vintage bike to my stable.

Um, ok, cycling goals? You mean besides surviving the winter, mostly on the trainer!

So here goes...

Top 10 in NMRS # 11 Uphill TT
Top 10 in NMRS # 7
Top 5 in Crit Series (A podium finish would be nice!)

:) :)

EDIT: I wanna do some x-c races next year too! Guess I'll be needing that cross bike after all :)

I'm aiming to cat up, from 4 to 3, in my second season of racing.

2007 goals - is it that time already? ? ?
I didn't think I had any goals but once I really thought about it I have alot.

- complete my first sprint triathlon

- complete the 2 tours again that I did this past summer plus add one out of state ride just with friends (looking at the Mickelson trail in SD or Itasca Park in MN)

- start a weekly "slower/shorter" beginner ride for newbies

- start an estrogen driven hammer ride on the same night as the testostoren driven one, this may be the hardest to do - the women I know don't have the same drop everything mentality between getting supper, kids, jobs, laundry etc.

- get stonger and increase overall speed

I haven't set any mileage goals yet.

I actually set my goal this week, to do a century in 2007 :)

1) get a lot of riding in every chance I get when the weather is nice
2) get a trainer for indoors to practice and build cadence
3) whatever else I can get in trouble with- like buying bike gadgets online.

Pfff, to many goals for my first season (back) into racing

A. Find a good team to ride with :p No seriously, there are only a hand full options here. There is one top team (http://www.restorecyclingteam.nl/in%20het%20nieuws/vrouwenploeg%20AD.pdf) close to where I live but I think it will be hard to get into the 'A' group (the top 12 riders) since it's a team with a lot of hidden 'politics' (the teammanager has a daughter riding, the sponsor has his wife riding, the team has been riding together for years etc.).

Goals, ordered by ascending difficulty level:
1. Finish races (criteriums)

2. Finish in the top 20 (of 60 to 120 competitiors) to get the necessary points for goal three (position 20 gets 1 point and position 1 gets 20 points)

3. Get enough points to get a ticket for the national championships (5 points should be enough). And of course participate in it.

4. Finish in the top 40 of the nationals

5. Get offered a position in one of the top competition teams for the year 2008. So I can ride the topcompetition in 2008.

6. Finish one race on the podium

But I think I will feel I did a super first season if I manage to get to goal number 3.

I actually had to "report" to my Team manager about my race plans for next year:

Ottawa Bicycle Club weekly women's TT (my first attempt at racing road)
Mtb sunset series at camp fortune - i am putting myself in the expert category.
the close Canada Cups mtb races - so Bromont, Tremblant and Hardwood, i haven't decided whether i will impose expert on myself or not.
The Grand Prix road race.

ehmmmm i think that's it. should keep me plenty busy!:D

Yeap! I 'crossed' up my acronyms - meaning the plan is to give cross (cx) a go next fall.

I'd have done it this season, but don't have the money (for a bike) or skills/technique thanks to buying a powertap, trainer, and some good local coaching. :)

1: Train like hell!!
2: MS Brissie to bay bike ride (50km)
3: Compete in both the GATORADE series and BRIBIE series Triathlon (longer course tris) for 2007-2008
4: Do the Brissie to gold coast for Diabetes (100km)
5: Do the above ride AGAIN for the Amy Gillet Foundation
6: Do 5000km in one year!!!

As the cycling/Tri Season is in full swing here, Most of this stuff won't start until Oct-Dec next year. THIS year my goal is to do the enticers for gatorade series tris and the SHORT Amy Gillet ride (50km) in December.

The brissie to bay though is in April 2007

2006 was my first year biking since I was a kid. In 4 months I've built up to a maximum so far of a 40 mile ride, which I did 3 times. In 2007 I want to be able to do 60 mile rides.

DH and I are hoping to do a modest bed&breakfast bike tour from NY through MA, Vt and NH next year, visiting some friends along the way as well. But maybe we'll start with just a NY/MA 4 day tour and see how that goes first. :)

I've been looking at the Katy Trail in Missouri as a possible goal for 2007. The little towns are spaced just right to offer accomodations when you want them....and I'm not much into camping, so I really want a nice bed and shower at the end of a day of riding. I'm looking into a couple of 'group rides' that do this trail including Elder Hostel. (Which, by the way, has extensive biking programs all over the world!!!) Ya gotta be 55, though.

Have any of you ever done this trail....or know anyone that has??? I'd be most interested in hearing personal testimonials.

That's one goal. The other is to simply continue to stretch myself in terms of miles and endurance.

Best to all:
Maureen;)

I found myself thinking about this very subject the other day as I was logging some mindless miles on my trainer. Here is a tentative overview of what I'm shooting for in 2007:

Goals for Giro 20 recumbent:
1. 1500 miles
2. 14.7 mph average speed

Goals for Univega Grand Turismo:
1. 3500 miles
2. 15.7 mph average speed

Overal goals:
1. total miles (road + trainer) 5500 miles
2. host at least 10 rides for the club with one being a century
3. complete 4 centuries
4. log a minimum of 2500 miles with the club

I set the following goals for myself for 2006 :
1. 5000 total miles trainer + road (I've logged 5,300 miles thus far)
2. average overal speed of 15.0 mph (overal average speed 15.02/15.66 on DF)
3. 2000 club miles (logged 2305 thus far)
4. complete 4 centuries (have 3 under my belt thus far)
5. host 10 rides for the club (hosted 10 rides and earned a club jersey)

Maureen~ www.stlbiking.com might have some Katy Trail information on it. There's also a message board that might have some people on it that have ridden the trail. I've ridden sections of the Katy Trail~ it's really nice and there are some wineries along it, also!

My goals for 2007:
Ride a ton with my dear husband (kind of obvious for those that know me!) and put on at least 2000 miles this next season
Complete 3 sprint tris and one Olympic distance tri
Complete the 100 mile Tour of the Ozarks
Continue to organize "slower social rides" for those interested
Ride a ton more with my husband!

Katy Trail is great, Maureen. They actually sponsor a supported ride. I'll try to find the information after I teach class!

My goals are pretty small compared to all this. Buy a road bike; get my husband to buy a bike. Continue riding with the club and try to do at least 1500 miles by the end of 2007. Hope that a lighter bike will make doing the Perrysville ride a little easier (I'm a hill slug).

Maureen: They don't have the dates yet for 2007, but DNR hosted a ride, supported, starting at St. Charles and ending in Clinton. You can check the website - www.bikekatytrail.com - for more info. They also list places you can catch the train to get to your car and stuff like that.

Teresa: Tour of the Ozarks isn't TOO bad (some killer hills but GORGEOUS scenery!). It starts at Buehler Park in Rolla (usually a police escort out of town). Their website - http://www.touroftheozarks.org/ - has maps to help give an idea of where each route goes. They have 12, 25, 50, and 100 mile routes. It's really fun! I hope you will be able to ride it next year. It isn't a race, so you just go at your own pace.

All righty; time to get back to work to help pay for more bike stuff!

I've found the social folks are more "ride to eat" than "eat to ride" i.e Find a nice resturant that doesn't mind sweaty people showing up on bikes, and organize a ride to it.

I'm with you! That's my #1 goal as well.

I am also apparently coaching an official Death Ride team for TNT as well (Sonoma/Napa/Marin group with team rides every week to every other week in those locales). More details later because I'd love to see some of you N Cal TE-ers give this ride a go! We'll apparently have training programs for people who want to do anywhere from 2 to 5 passes - training will start in January. I say "apparently" because although this is the official plan, but I won't have time to sit down and plan the calendar for another month.

I'd like to do a brevet series and some more doubles, but I really need to see what the heart and lungs say before I commit beyond what I've already committed to SK to do. This may be a more relaxed year (aside from the Death Ride, which isn't really that bad).

You should - and the training rides will dovetail nicely to your brevet training and/or doubles (I should know!). I will be setting the schedule around the Davis rides, probably. I honestly don't know what the schedule will be yet. I'm hoping to have some very good assistant coaches to help out - so we have support at all pace levels.

Training would start in the end of January. Fundraising would probably be in the $3000 range, not sure but it has to be 3 times expenses for Leukemia Society to make the fundraising totals they need. Includes guaranteed entry (which is hard to get as it is by lottery), lodging, altitude camp (which is HUGE-ly important, IMHO).

This is a new team for our Sonoma/Napa/Marin group so we're working out a lot of details. S F has had a team on and off for years, but we've got some great local rides up here, so it was time.

Edit BMo3 - you could definitely come out to watch the ride and cheer people on - or, better yet, volunteer to support our altitude camp.

Cassandra - I've done DR the last 2 years (well, not this year because I was in the hospital the week before - saying "Hey you have to let me out because I'm coaching people to do the Death Ride and Ihave to do it") - it is a great ride.

A brevet is a long distance, self supported ride. A brevet series typically involves rides of 200k, 300k, 400k and 600k - and sometimes 1200k. "Brevet training" is simply training for brevets.

My goals are many, so I anticipate having to scale back a bit as time goes on!!

1) Complete a century a month for 2007 (don't ask me why...DH and I are nuts  )
2) Complete the Blood, Sweat and Gears century in June
3) Improve my speed and bike handling skills (I know I need to define these goals better eventually)
4) investigate racing opportunities in my area
5) sign up and complete Assault on Mt Marion (so that I can qualify for Mitchell)
6) commute at least 1 day a week (hopefully more) ALL YEAR this year
7) plan and excute one short self-supported tour next summer with DH (local)

I'd also like to plan on doing 6-Gap and Bridge to Bridge, but I don't want to get too ahead of myself! :p

One of the local bike shops has a list serve and we just post our route, average speed, and where we'll meet up. I've joined the local "guys" on a ride (and was promptly dropped) and they are way, WAY too serious for me. We like to look at scenery and ride for fun, take pictures, etc.(helps us to remember why we like to ride). We generally start on a Saturday morning, say 6:30-7:00 a.m. (we aren't doing this now, since it's still dark at that time), and have a designated halfway point where we meet to make sure everyone's there - we call this "no rider left behind". We usually go 35-60 miles average 14-17 mph. Having the list serve really helps get these going.

We've also found that each ride is joined by someone who didn't want to go with the "guys" because they are so fast (22-26 mph  ). I would like more women to join us as I'm usually the token female. I do, however, LOVE passing some young male while going up hill. Makes me KNOW I'm strong!!

The first ride we set up we had ourselves and 2 other people. We average 10-12 now. We've found that drivers treat us much better when there are a number of us.

I'd also like to do the Mickelson Trail. I live in SD, but on the otherside of the state. I don't know if I want to do the full trail in one day (there's an organized ride toward the beginning of the season) or do the 3 day version so that I can enjoy the scenery (organized tour at the end) more. However, I think a two day version would be about perfect too.

Anyway, I started riding at the end of July 05. I got a hybrid then. Last season I got my road bike, but got a late start due to a broken arm. I still managed my first century in an MS150 tour.

I hope to do the Tour de Kota, I realized last year that I'd have to start riding earlier in order to do it comfortably. I will do the MS150 again from Sioux Falls. And if things go REALLY well... maybe I'll try the W.R.A.T.H ride (Weekend Ride Around the Hills: the Rapid City MS150... Though that still seems to be brutal for my rookie legs). We'll see how hilly this year's Tour de Kota is.

I also want to keep running. I'm knocking at 4 miles now. Just under 12 min/miles. Still slow, so I'd like to get a bit better at that just for myself.

Lorie

BTW I've also found through these rides that some of the other professors here are riders as well and had NO IDEA I rode.....wait.......shouldn't the bike rack on my car and the bike/triathlon stickers on the back window be a hint? What about all the bike pictures in my office?.....well, maybe I'm just too subtle about my love of all things "bike"........maybe not.....

Do the Stelvio again, and do a >100 km alpine ride.

Exceed the 2500 km I did this year.

Manage swimming 1 km and running 20.

1. Upgrade from sport to expert for mountain bike racing

2. 3000+ miles in the saddle

3. Kick some butt in Cat 3 cyclocross races and pick up a little prize money in every race.

4. Do a few Cat 4 road races and crits...and show the roadies that mountain bikers can represent.

5. A top 30 finish at the Chequamegon 40

Well, the last couple years The TDK has been at the beginning of June. They haven't released the info yet. Yes, there is still wind. I don't think a person can really avoid that. :D I haven't done the ride yet, I've had friends that have. I think the key is to find a group that you can draft with.

Here's the website to watch: http://www.argusleaderbiketour.com/

WOW the beginning of June that doesn't give much seat time before hand especially if we have a late spring. guess I'll have to make sure i stay on the trainer if I decided to do that.

Candisc discourages pacelines but hey those two days that were 30 mph+ headwinds everyone would have died had it not been for drafting. It was hard for the person pulling to stay out front for more than 1 mile.

Thanks for the web site - I'll have to keep this in mind and see if it works out

We have cycling classes through the University PhyEd program... So I've been doing that this fall. It's sort of hard for me to do it in the Spring, work keeps me away for much of Jan. and Feb. But, I'll try doing it next semester too.

Pacelines make me nervous too. And actually, now that you mention it, I have read that the Tour de Kota discourages them too. However, I've done other rides with people and followed behind them. They're people that I knew, plus a couple others... It seems generally that groups stick together and pick up a couple others occasionally. We're not talking 20 people... maybe 6 - 10 maybe? At most? Though a small crash happened during the MS150, I wasn't a part of it. Everybody ended up being ok... one person trashed their bike though. :(

1. A charity ride of 2 days or more
2. One century
3. A self-supported tour of 3 days or more

Deb - you can accomplish both of your first two goals in one weekend! Come on out and do the Great Mass Getaway in June. There is a century option on Day 1, then we stay at Mass Maritime overnight, and then 75 the second day... This is a GREAT event, and I will be doing my 5th this year.

Hi all

In 2007 I would like to continue to be confident about cycling on my own and to remember that I started cycling on my own when I was a teenager and that I can do it again.

However, today I was cycling and suddenly had the crazy idea to do a long-distance sponsored cycle ride to raise money for a few charities that are important to me, to raise awareness of the sustainable transport charity that I work for and to arrive in London in time for the Tour de France to exorcise a few demons.

The last time I did a sponsored bike ride I set myself the challenge of riding 280 miles by commuting to work in the month of Feb (a cold and dark month). With 8 miles to go and a week ahead of schedule, I came off my bike and ended up in hospital. however, it worked in my favour - I got more sponsorship because people felt sorry for me...

So, I am going to give a big sponsored ride some serious thought.

Here's to independence in whatever guise it might take.

:)

As a recent “returnee” to cycling after approximately 30 years, my goals for 2007 are much more modest than most of you. I think it is great idea to set specific goals that are measurable and attainable. In the next couple of years, I hope to be able to put something in like- finish a century, etc. Reading everyone else’s goals gives me hope- the women of TE are truly inspiring!

1. Buy a road bike (have a Terry hybrid now)
2. Attend a skills/training class or camp to improve
my cycling and bike maintenance skills
3. Finish a metric century
4. Join a local bike club
5. Make it all the way up the Maple Corner Farm hill
without walking- (my personal nemesis)
6. Lose 20 pounds (I guess that is not a cycling goal,
but it sure would help with goal #5)
7. Most important- Have fun!!!!!!!

Great goals!

I think we all have a #5 in our lives - I finally did "my hill" and now it is to get up faster! - it never ends :) And I have discovered a couple of others I need to try

Re #6
Everyone talks about lightening up their bikes, I just decided 20 lbs off my body would be cheaper :D

My cycling goals for 2007 are quite modest. I've had arthritic knees for years and, as a result, haven't done much riding due to the pain. I had my right knee joint replaced six months ago and have tentative plans to get the other one replaced next year. I've just started riding again. Very short rides, no mileage goals for now. My ultimate goal for next year is to have some pain-free rides toward the end of the year and then look forward to 2008 to really get back to regular cycling.

I have a number of smallish goals that I want to accomplish next season but they mostly involve, go faster, further, and longer.

1. I want do a century ride next summer.
2. I want to ride to Vernon and back.
3. I want to climb Anarchist Mountain as fast as the boys.
4. And my real challenge - I want to do the Banff to Jasper ride with my husband and his brother next June. It's a little over 300 km, over the Icefields Parkway which has very unreliable weather especially in June, two summits, and it has to be done all in one day. I think I could do it but I would be slower than them and I can't hold them back because they want to beat their last time. So I haven't quite figured out how I can manage it because I suppose I'll end up beng on my own much of the ride. Do I just join them for part of it or do I really try to to the whole ride? I guess I will just train the best I can and see where I'm at next June.
5. In keeping with the #5 theme - I want to climb Gordon Hill in less than 4 minutes.

I am just starting to think about my goals for next year. I think they will focus on just a few things:

Work on technical skills, like descending and cornering
increase my average speed just a tiny bit by consistently riding with people who are faster than me
Try to avoid my late summer "break down" that comes from too much time on the bike. Learn to rest well.
Improve my core strength (already started on that)
mountain bike more
Do another century, maybe 2 this year
Lead a short series of late winter/early spring warm up rides with my husband
Take a vacation where I bring my bike and ride, but it's not a bike tour (i.e. relax a little)

When is the Banff to Jasper ride?

V.

V - They want to do it in June (probably Fathers Day weekend?). BIL's wife and I will drive and I'm going to ride parts. But I'd really like to do the whole thing. Dh was encouraging me to but I reminded him that I wouldn't be able to keep on the hill climbing and he agreed. It's already a long day. I really don't want to hold them back so I have thought about riding with them as far as I can and then encouraging them to go ahead when they start to lose me. My SIL can pick me up if I pack it in... I guess the hardest thing would be to do the training in winter/spring. We're going to Europe in July he wants to do the ride before he leaves.

Ahhh... so it's a ride you guys do on your own - explains why I couldn't find it in my Google search.

Sounds like a cool ride. if you did it the weekend after I could be tempted...Our last day of school is the 14th. A driving vacation to Canada could be fun. Oops...It's like a 4 day drive just to get there! EEK!

Still it's on my one day I want to see list.

Well there are organized Banff-Jasper rides that go over several days. I think the BC Randonneuring club has info about one on their website.

My goal for 2007 is to get back on the bike! My mom has had some major health stuff going on this year (she's currently at my house recovering from back surgery on 11/16), then I had to have a cycling related surgery that seemed to take forever to heal:rolleyes: needless to say I ended up with barely over 1000 miles on the year  Down about 4000 miles from last year. :( So, my goal is to break in the Brooks saddle I bought (lord help me) and to get my cycling legs back. Lots of riding and lots of hill repeats to get back to the level I was at...

in July or somewhere thereabouts, a friend and I are tentatively planning to take the Amtrack to Seattle... then ride south for 2 weeks as far as we can... we'll ride as far as we wanna, and take days off as needed... no set schedule, just ride the coast. :) BUT, that means I gotta get on the saddle!

After a year off because of surgery (December 2005 had the surgery) I am trying hard to get back into my pre-surgery fitness. Actually I did begin riding both my mountain and road bikes the end of August but not like before.

But here are the goals I have set for myself:

1. A lot more mountain biking this winter
2. Serious road training beginning the end of February first of March for the
STP (Yep, my daughter and I have decided to ride the 2007 STP!)
3. Participate in my mountain bike club's annual 4 hours of adrenalin in April
4. Start leading rides again (for my mountain bike and road bike clubs)
5. Ride the classics this spring to help me get in shape and they are:
a. Daffodil Classic in Orting in April
b. Historical Lewis County Bicycle Ride in Chehalis in May
c. Apple Century Bicycle Ride in Wenatchee in June
d. And the STP in July!

I have a few 'key' goals...

5000km on the road

Get placed in the Club Champs TT in my category

Do a good (possibly great) time in the East Coast North Island TT in my category

Be competitive in my grade at Ramblers (the local club) with a view to moving up another grade by the end of the year

Lose another 10kgs to make my power:weight ratio better on the uphill rides

AND... since reading this thread... I hope to read that Mallio and BikingMom are back on there bikes in 2007 and loving it again... and that BikerChick is able to find time again for her riding.

Mine:

1. 3,000+ miles next year. I fell about 500 miles short this year due to my riding buddy being so sick.
2. Kick the Tri-County Hillhopper's butt in February. Usually it kicks mine. :o
3. Try mountain biking (hmmm need to buy a bike)
4. Duathalon
5. Keep up running to cross train. I found myself casting it aside this year and really losing my base for running. Now I am not enjoying it.

Mine:
1. Ride more. Lots more.
2. Do the MS150. And finish it.
3. Get some Ultegra action on my bike. Drrooooooolllll...
4. Sustain 15 MPH as my base speed.
5. Do the ride from Houston to Shiner in May. Beer is tasty. Find a ride home.
6. Start commuting on the bike. (I don't even live that far from work!!)
7. Ride more.

P.S. I want to make it up a hill without feeling like I'm going to die. And also want to leave some certain people in my dusty wake...

I want to do the Austin to Shiner route. DH did Houston to Shiner in 2004 on a Mountain Bike! I have been saying I would do the ride since, but had conflicts both years.

I think the one from Houston is an actual sponsored ride, isn't it? I read something about it and DH and I have been drooling about it ever since. I'm a Shiner girl! I've been trying to talk my step-father into doing it with us. He used to be a really serious rider when he lived in Missouri, but when he moved down here, his bike got stolen. :( He's borrowing a bike from a friend and I really want him to do that. If you do the ride, let me know, I'm always interested in meeting people from the forum!

Ok. Time to commit. My goals for 2007:
- get back on the bike ASAP come Spring.
- not cheat on commuting daily by bike or on foot.
- make it to Hell'n'back (24k each way -- I've done better than that distance last year, but not with those hills).
- once I make that goal, set myself new ones such as Hell'n'back without "crosstraining" on the hills, or the long route 'round the lake and through the woods.

Actually the Shiner Bash has 3 routes, all on the same day. One starts in Katy, one in South Austin and one in San Antonio. All roads lead to Shiner, TX though! DH said not counting the BP MS150 (Houston to Austin) it is the best ride in terms of support and fun. We plan to do it this year!

We will be skipping the MS150 this year (we did it 2005 and 2006). I hope the Shiner Bash lives up to DH's hype. :)

I have avoided this thread for a while... I don't have much inspiration for goals in 2007, it seems like I did all the firsts in 2006!

But, nonetheless:

- UBC Triathlon (sprint) in March: Work on my speed, especially on the bike. Although I am not a runner, I placed better on the 5k run than on the bike last year. I want to be explosive on the bike and still have the power to run. (I don't care much about the swim for now.)

- Vancouver Half-Marathon in May: I just ran my first 21.1 today, so I know I can do it. After the triathlon I'll intensify my running and I hope to have another strong finish.

- Have loads of cycling fun through the summer, climb big hills, go for long long long long rides with my club and with friends.

- Vancouver Triathlon in September: I am not quite committing to this one yet, but I might do that, sprint distance again, but the swim here is open water and the terrain much hillier. My goal here would be simply to finish.

- Focus on swimming in the Fall of 07 perhaps? Who knows...

I have lots of other big plans for other areas of my life in 2007 so I don't want to put too much pressure on my shoulders for the sports part, which is first and foremost a past time for me. But working out and being in the outdoors does help with stress management, and allows me to eat more... and I love to eat!!

Well, I'm having a slow start this year - I just can't seem to get into the gym! It is snowing nice and hard outside right now for my commute home!

1. Plan my Second Annual McDowell Mountain Bike Fun Camp second weekend of February (I've already sent out invites).

2. Ride the Cindarella metric - which means drive or fly to SF Bay area, (take a little road trip to an old ride that I have done many many years in the past.)

3. Ride my mountain bike more often.

4. I increased my climbing ability last year; see if I can up it one more notch this year. Climb, climb and more climbing.

5. Increase the intensity of my women's developmental rides. Try to get more women - not just beginners, interested and showing up for rides.

6. Ride the Casa Grande metric (for spring warmup miles) if the two weddings in March don't coincide with the ride.

7. No other ambitions, big or little, yet. I did a 450 mile, 6 day ride last year. This year, maybe I'll do it on a motorcycle?

8. Maybe gear up for cyclocross in the fall. If we have any decent cyclocross racing in our state this coming year.

I just want to ride, as much as I can for as long as I'm allowed to, even if that means on the trainer. But I want to ride as much as I can with my husband over the next few months, because we are going to have a long time when we can each ride separately but will have a hard time riding together (because someone will have to stay with the baby until he or she is old enough to come along). Skills, mileage goals, conquering my stupid clipless pedals, all that stuff: pfft. Out the window for now. After the baby is born and I've recuperated, I really want to take more mountain biking classes, because that was so much fun. For now, I just want to ride until I can't do it anymore.

I've settled on wanting to ride 3500 miles in 2007. Also doing at least a 4 day tour through NY and parts of MA with DH.
Oh, and a BIG goal of mine is to get through the 3500 miles with no major injuries!

My goal for this year is riding as much as possible of the ALC6 trip from SF to LA. Which therefore means another goal is to get in shape by june. I suppose the final goal will be to keep up the riding after the big ride in june as well.

A few ideas-

I'd like to work on (am working on now) speed- time in the saddle -distance.
I want to do at least 200km/wk plus my swim & running (might stop running as i want to improve my swim stroke)

To complete the Karri cup in March...no matter how hot it is..(please don't let it be 38c again!!!)

To do a 200km ride towards the end of the year with Audax (randonneuring australia)

Just to get better at biking really.

So, this year, I'll just have to try again. Here they are in order of importance (mostly):

I'd like to do a short solo tour. No more than a week or so.

DH and I will ride the KATY trail and spend a little while being tourists in St. Louis.

I will bike commute as often as possible.

As for mileage, I think I'll ride the year. 2007 (or more) miles sounds good.

Oh, and some time this year I'm going to ride my age. Fifty-mumble miles will be fun.

I've never set any specific goals other than to just ride more and improve a bit on speed, climbing and technique. In 2006 I logged about 2300 miles, but could have done much more if I hadn't started slacking off in September. Life just got in the way for many reasons.

I plan to ride Cinderella in March, Chico Wildflower in April. Maybe Strawberry Fields Forever in May. Metrics, most likely, but we'll see how I am before the Wildflower. DH is thinking of doing Climb to Kaiser this summer. I have no inclination to do this ride (way too hard for me), but will probably train with him as if I were. Climbing is my big bugaboo. I have the legs, it's the lung power I lack. Some of it may be EIA, but even with inhalers, I really slow down on hills and don't have much stamina. Need to get back to doing hill repeats once a week or so.

For the winter months I want to ride my trainer at least three days a week, do resistance training two-three days a week, and do longer rides on the weekends weather permitting. I feel as if I have to rebuild my endurance base from last summer. It's not completely gone, but last Sunday's flat 30 miles told me I need to get back to work. Looking forward to DST when I can ride after work. Doing the trainer for an hour at 5 am is no fun :p .
