I have fallen in love with our group night rides on the local railway trail. It was actually fun even though my light went out after I had been dropped. Mercifully it was a full moon so I could still see rather well. It is a little tough when it gets cold around here trying to layer up for the 90 min ride. I live in a part of the country that gets a lot of snow in the winter so I had to buy a mountian bike for those days. Boy do those suckers weigh a lot and slow you down. Anyway If you have never tried night riding give it a try, you may find that you like it. Of course be sure you have the proper lights and a safe place to ride. I have learned that once a week at least cold and dark are poor excuses for not building your base for next year.

I'm getting and feeling old when I say this, but, I like night riding but not in the winter. I only go night riding in the summer. It is just too blasted cold. When it is under 25 degrees and there is no sun shining, or even if there is sun shining, it is just too cold for me anymore. I ride for fun and when my fingers turn white all the way to the knuckles and my feet are gone, I'm just not having fun anymore!

I will ride to work in 25 degree weather but it is a short ride. If I'm riding in the winter for longer than an hour, it has to be around 40.:)

Put me in the Spokewench side of things - bitter cold rides, especially at night, are just not my flavor. It simply feels like too much darn work - by the time I've put on the 3rd or 4th layer (I lose count around then!), I start looking at my trainer with longing...!

During the summer, well that's another story, it can be really cool to ride at night given good lights and a smart route.

I'm good 'til about 20 or 10, winter or summer, but my fingers don't get cold easily :)

I am especially liking my Gazelle's light, though I am ***hoping*** I've solved its "suddenly going out" problem (I think it was a contact and I just have to bump it). If not, I've got those spoke lights to keep me visible - and they're red and blue. I'm curious to see what effect that will have.

i find the fun goes out of cycling about 35 degrees. Morning or night.
