Hey ladies! How are we doing on BikeJournal?

I'm not sure about our goal in miles, but in kilometers our
goal is 321,869 km
and our
current total is 291,819km

So we have approximately 30,000 km to go still.

I will put my 500 km in by the end of this year, but that's not much. We need the South Hemisphere girls to help I think!!

How are you all doing?

I need to post some miles from at least a couple weeks back. I've been bad lately about updating BJ. I think I'm getting close to my year goal...just have to start getting on the trainer during the weekday evenings, which hasn't been very appealing. But once I get into the routine, it won't be a big deal.

We've started up an evening crit training ride on Wednesday evenings here, which should help break up the indoor trainer monotony.

I haven't put in any this year. If you want a big chunk o' miles, I've logged at least 3,000. I can easily figure it out if you think it will help.

Bulk miles don't count! So unless you want to log them on one ride after the other.... we're bummed!

Going to BikeJournal to put in my little 30 miles from next weekend. I will probably add a couple hundred by the end of the year.

Are you sure? I thought bulk miles are logged the same as individual rides.

I have about 4100 miles since the beginning of the year, which is about 6598 km. By the end of the year, I'm guessing I'll have at least 800 more miles (~1288 km). Hope you can use this, if you can put in bulk miles. If not, how do we start putting in each ride so that we can start building this up more?

Hopefully, I did my part. I passed my goal in the beginning of October, and I'm now at 2700 miles, plus some (can't remember). I'll probably get another 150-200 miles outdoors before the snow falls or it's just too cold.

Great job! I probably won't make my goal of 3,000 miles. My DH got sick and I used that as an excuse to not ride. :( I need almost 600 miles, I don't think I can get 100 miles a weekend in now through the end of the year. I am going to try though!:D

Ahh, now I understand! People on the BJ forum talked about dropping precipitously in rank towards the end of the year because people jumped on and added tons of miles. I couldn't understand why - but I'd forgotten the team aspect. (I think as long as you did the miles, doesn't matter when you plug 'em in... it's just a spreadsheet, for cryin' out loud :) :) )

OK… I know this is a 2006 thread, but the title of the thread is good for any year… so here I am bumping it, and giving some Jan 2007 stats, and plees for our cyclists to get over to BJ and put numbers by their names!

Team Estrogen total mileage in the BikeJournal stats currently is 8429 miles…

OK ladies… we have 93 members with visible mileage, and 14 who have elected to use the “private” option.

BUT there are 168 with nothing beside their names except a big hollow zero!

That’s nearly 2/3 of the visible mileage members…

Now I know some of off bikes because of illness or health or weather… but currently we are placed 7th at BJ… if just 100 of you ladies popped a few miles up… say an average of 20 miles each (and remember you can enter bulk miles, say at the end of each month if you don’t want to log each individual ride…) then our over total miles would go from 8429 to 10,429 then TeamEstrogen would be in 5th place by over 1000miles…

If 100 of you posted your miles with an average of 35 miles each for the year thus far, we would have nearly 12,000 and comfortably in 4th place. If that average was 40, we would pushing Space City hard for their current standing of 3rd place!!!

C’mon – every ride each of you makes is worthy whether 8-10km, of centuries… they all take dedication and commitment. Be proud and support our team.

kelownagirl, you need to change that in your profile (edit profile) to include indoor miles. Then I think it will contribute to your club's total... But I'm not 100% sure.

Indoor miles definitely contribute as long as you check "include indoor miles" in your setup (most of my miles are trainer stand miles :( )

OK, I've finally gotten around to setting up a user on bikejournal.com. I added my <measly> 135 mostly-commuting miles for 2007. I don't typically keep track of my annual mileage, so this should impose some discipline on me. :o

RoadRaven
01-27-2007, 04:55 PM
Yeah - indoor miles show if you choose that option - I haven't set my indoor mileage to show as my personal mileage goal is based on total road miles...
At the moment its only about 20km on the trainer, being summer and all... but if I do loads this winter indoors instead of getting outdoor kilometres, I will change the option.

Hey there Susan. Excellent - great for you to keep track and excellent for TE to have your fabulous 137 miles (measly and miles should NOT go in the same sentence!)

"Yes they do, I'm on bike, sweating they count." says the snowbound rider.

"But you don't go any where." OP

"The weather is too crummy for me to get out, they count." SR

"But your front wheel doen't turn." OP

"I'm counting them. " SR

"I'm not counting them." OP

"Ha... my indoor miles don't count. They multiply." retorts Veronica.

Funny I was just thinking about this, sort of.

If I keep my HR on an outdoor ride as high as I do on the trainer, I average about two mph faster on the outdoor ride than I do on the trainer and I'm riding similar gears.

To me, they are just different species. :p

I do wish more of us had our journals available to see on BJ. I enjoy stalking. Sometimes I get trapped at my computer by my cat. It's either stalk people's journals or look for stolen goods on Craig's list. Jo's journals are pretty good. :D

good question, Dar. I feel like i should DOUBLE count my inside miles!
they are torture. Your muscles get the workout, even your bike gets the workout, so why aren't people counting them? because you're not moving forward in space? well then, orient your bike pointing eastward and you
WILL be moving forward in space with the rest of the planet.

Hmm I use mine on my journal so I can compare rides and times etc. If you dont have any idea of what route the entry was for how would you do this??

I also like to know for climbing. If I want to do a ride with a certain amount of climbing I can look at altitude gain on my journal for the different routes and make my decision.:)

Geonz

Hmmm.... I'll note that I did the "Seymour - St. Boniface" route or "out to Bondville and back via Old Church" - but people would have to know where "back" was.
However, I don't compare times. There are just too many variables to make that meaningful - except for my commute I don't even do the same route that often. (I am going to try to get back to timing that, but that would mean getting computers on those bikes... haven't gotten to it yet.)
Mostly I don't really care about time (hmmm... couldn't that be a song ;)).

I actually let my computer keep track for me, and then when I get time, I catch up my bikejournal journal. Though I will say that lately I've been keeping better records at BJ because my DH and I have a little unofficial competition going. He usually wins because his commute is longer, but if nothing else, he keeps me logging! ;)

I just don't want people reading what i write, so I don't (I mean people I don't know, not you guys). I don't mind people looking at my miles, though. It's just a number.

Í want to know what the top 5 riders at BJ actually do for a living! To be at 15,000km for the year would mean they'd be retired? Someone please explain..

C

Crankin
06-07-2007, 03:45 AM
I often wondered what they do, too. Even if they are retired, they must not do much besides riding. I rode 3,000 miles last year; my goal was 2500 and the mild fall allowed me to ride a lot more. Now that I won't be working after NEXT FRIDAY, I am not sure how much more I will ride. I probably will do more errands by bike, but even if I do the 2 regular club rides twice a week and long rides on the weekends plus a little more, I am not sure how much more this will add up to. I have 3500 as a "sort of" goal in my head, but at this point, I think I would rather get faster than ride more. I'm at 1,055, which is about 3 weeks ahead of where I was last year at this time, because I've been commuting a couple of days a week.

Winter is tough, especially if you get snow and/or ice. There are positives about winter riding, i.e., finding yourself having the trail either to yourself or with other die-hard, trail rule savvy athletes. ;) Acclimating to the cold, riding in the dark, etc., is the real challenge but that's a temporary thing. Once you figure out the right layers/"keep warm system," you'll be fine. You might consider investing in winter cycling shoes, too. Well worth the investment.

I have to admit that I feel indignant when the warm weather folks come out of their toasty caves and start crowding/behaving badly &/or unsafely on "my" trail. Anyone who slogs it out there in 20 degrees w/wind chills even lower should have emminant (sp?) domain! LOL

You can do the 10K. I just takes determination and discipline.

I am on there also and log after every ride or at least at the end of the week I will log all my rides. I keep a pad by my bike to write down the time and miles just in case I don't log write away.

I am still working on my commuting and errand bike which will bring in an extra 6 miles on days that I normally would have none. I agree, they do add up in the long run. My bike should be done by the weekend. The rack and bag are on, I just need to reconnect the something on the front brake.

OK--I joined TE there. I've been logging since April, which adds up to 894 km (all outdoors). Does that automatically get added to the TE stats, or do I have to do something? All the rides in my journal now list TE as the club, so I'm guessing the got added.
