I was watching the TV this evening and saw the terrible fires raging through California. I immediately thought of my SS, laughlaugh18 who comes from California, hopefully she will let us know she is alright.
Tried checking out if she lived anywhere near the fires but I think she is away from the area, however, it still made me think about other people on this site who might be in danger.
I so hope everybody is safe plus all their family, friends, pets and animals.
Hopefully these awful fires will start to diminish, all this is made worse as the authorities are suspicious it was arson.
Take care over there.

The fire is raging out of control. It started out in a fairly remote area (in San Bernardino county far from LOs Angeles and Orange County), where there is lots of dry brush and vegetation and its difficult for fire fighters to get in. Sad news, 4 fire fighters have lost their lives and 1 clings to his. Prayers for his healing are needed.
The fire was set. It started out at the Flying W Ranch. Ths happens to be a mountain biker hangout. I so hope no rider was the cause of this terrible fire. It is that time of year here in California. Fire season. Santa Ana Winds. Sadly we also have alot of idiots who like to start fires. It should be a felony for doing so and if lives are lost, should be a capital crime.

I think it is a felony. And lives lost just adds to it.

The news this morning said when the firestarter is caught, they will be charged with murder.

the thing that gets to me is all of the animals that are probably being lost. The small farms and horse ranches and stuff. I actually saw footage of folks leading their horses- and even a couple of llama's out to safety.
It makes me sad to think of the fear those poor animals must be feeling.
Growing up on a ranch I remember my Grandpa just saying to open the gates and let them run, that they would instinctivley run for safety. :(

and i think this fire has been particularly bad for that.... they were saying on the radio that it was so fast moving... that even the birds couldn't out-fly it! :(
we were talking to someone who lives in the burns canyon area (pioneer town fire this past summer).... his property made it through... but hearing him talk about the animals... just broke my heart......

I'm 3 hours south and west...and the smoke has blown all the way down here. That's what Santa Ana winds do and it makes it VERY difficult and incredibly dangerous to fight... the 4 firefighters who died, and the 1 still on life support, were trapped and burned when the winds changed... it's such a tragedy... my heart goes out to their family, friends and coworkers...
for me another eerie thing is that today is the 3 yr anniversary of the Cedar Fire... 15 dead and 2200 homes lost... it's just weird to have smoke thick in the air on the same day of the year...
and yes, if and when the arsonist is caught... there will be numerous counts for the arson... but also 4 counts of homicide. I too feel it should be a capital crime. There is no way anyone can convince me they didn't realize the consequences of that action.

No worries, I'm about 100 miles west of the fire; luckily we haven't had the wind blow in our direction yet to suffer the soot. Thanks for checking (by the way, I ate my Happy Hippo tonight; it was fabulous. :D )
I hate, hate, hate fires. I grew up in the canyon where the worst fire in Los Angeles city history actually started before it blew the other way and devastated a number of other canyons. It was called the Bel Air fire, in 1961; I was only 5 and I still remember being lined up to be evacuated from elementary school. http://www.lafire.com/famous_fires/611106_BelAirFire/110761_belair_LAFDreport.htm
But, boy, do I love firemen (I know I should say fire fighters; but when I was a kid they were only men). They are true heroes.

Woke up this morning full of aches and pains from my back, feel really fat and down in the dumps, one of those days.
Came on here and read this thread and everything has eased up, remembering all the havoc this awful fire is causing.
MOST of all, my SS laughlaugh is OK, am so glad you posted, isn't it odd how much you can think of somebody who you do not even really know?
Pleased you enjoyed the Happy Hippo.
Know what you mean about firemen.........:p We call them firemen over here.
That Bel Air fire was something else.
Anyway, have not checked the news out yet, just hope it is easing up now.
