View Full Version : weird boyfriends

alright just today my boyfriend was over watching TV... i had just got back from a 2 hour ride. showered and changed. alright so eventually he says he's behind schedule on riding and wants to ride but doesn't feel like going back to his house to get his bike. i told him he can use mine. fine. then he asks if i had any cycling shorts he could borrow. i told him no i don't have any extras. he points to the wall to some bike shorts hanging on a hatrack says "what about those?" i told him "i just came back from riding in those." he just said "whatever that'll do" and goes in the bathroom and changes out of his jeans. so basically he left the house and went riding.
i mean i just got back riding in these and they're sweaty, damp and don't smell too great and he's wearing them. i mean do men have any type of ethics when it comes to hygeine or what? to me that's disgusting. i know i would never wear anyone's used shorts. or is this one of those "he loves me" type things where a close relative or spouse will eat off your plate and so forth... just weird

Funny, how many PMs I have received lately about troll stink.

*sigh* it's amazing what people accuse you of these days.
perhaps people here don't like personal accounts but i'm just sharing with the board things that occur that revolve around biking and interest me. i'm a very outspoken person and i'm sorry if that offends people. i know i have not attacked anyone here but i do speak my mind as objectively as possible and simply report on things i see and would just like to share these experiences with others. :)

Imagine, what are the odds that a couple could exist where both the woman and the man are seriously into long-distance cycling and they wear the same size shorts and they are so anatomically similar that they'd be equally comfortable borrowing eachothers bikes for multi-hour long distance rides?
I find this statistical improbability about twice as ridiculous as the thought of some imposter with a cycling garments/shorts fetish thinking that we're really that stupid.
And seriously, who hangs their shorts on the hatrack?
Have a lovely day. :)

No problem Cali, it's easy enough to prove you're for real: go for a ride with me and my friends.
We can meet at El Porto, since I pass it on my way to Marina Del Rey a couple times a week. I would love to ride with a 20-something gal on an Iron Horse mountain bike. The one who can beat all the "proffessional looking in-shape guys with expensive bikes and spandex shorts and sporty helments and all that other stuff."
If what you say is true, I'm sure you can give my Ironman pals with their expensive bikes and sporty helments a great workout!

Oh, my husband and I could wear each other's shorts. He's given me shorts before where he didn't like the chamois, and while he wouldn't borrow mine because I'd kill him, he bought his last pair based on a pair that I had. (He bought the men's version, but they were nearly identical.) The differences between men's and women's shorts are not that dramatic, I've found. If all of mine were dirty and he had a clean pair, I am pretty sure I could ride in them and never notice the difference.
But he's the one who told me about the used bike short ebay ads and the particular fetish for dirty bike shorts, so I think he'd think this was a troll, too!

Yep, Cali, I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and go riding with some TE gals. There's absolutely no way you beat a bunch of in shape guys on the road on your mountain bike! I've been riding with the guys for a long time and that is just darn near impossible unless you are Juli Furtado or something!

My DH and I, too, can wear the same stuff. We generally don't (we have borrowed each other's no-chamois tights, however, when other stuff was in the laundry), and I'm making a concerted effort to get more "girly" jerseys, so...well, he wouldn't be wearing those.

BF and I are the same size as well. We ACCIDENTLY borrow each others shorts (they were on sale, just a minor brand. They look IDENTICAL and we each have three pair!!) It annoys me when he steals my last pair of clean lycra instead of his own! I hate his chamois and could never wear them!
But I do borrow his clean cycling socks when I've run out :p Shouldn't be a problem now with all the SS going ons...
But We've never worn each other's dirty lycra! EWE that's just gross.

I won't even wear my own dirty lycra.....but, I have a friend who did the AIDS Ride (seven days in a row riding) and he only had one pair of shorts. He'd wear them one day and the next day he would turn them inside out and wear them again. And then he'd reverse the process -- never washing them all week. His feeling was that by wearing the chamois outside, it was getting clean and disinfected in the sun and wind.
Oh, and he was 22 at the time. I guess young kids like CaliGirl's boyfriend (and my AIDS Ride buddy) have different standards than middle-aged women like us!

Men are gross. Plain and simple.

Thom and I wear the same size and ride the same size bike. So it's possible. It's definitely weird... and I'd probably be looking for a new boyfriend if he was really into wearing my dirty shorts.
And all of you who are saying men are gross... My guy isn't! Or is that ain't?
Finally, why the assumption that this person is a troll? It's certainly not the first odd post we've had. And if you're put off by what she had to say, remember what your mother told you. I'll leave that bit to your imagination. :D

Back off guys. If you think she's a troll ignore her posts, but don't make her feel unwelcome here. My husband would do exactly the same thing. He is much taller than me, and rides a much larger framed bike, but once he visited me on cape cod, pulled out my daughters bike (way too small), jacked up the seatpost to the max insertion line, and went for it. He wears the same shorts for a week without washing, and yes, he gets the shorts that I don't like the chamois on and wears them too. Not all guys care that much about any of this stuff, if its a choice of riding or not riding.

i guess i haven't been paying attention. how can you all tell when someone is a "troll"? considering the stuff that I've opened up to you guys about - this thread seemed mild. I definitely can't see my bf wearing any of my shorts (way too small) but I've worn a (clean) pair of his - that he said were too tight on him. the waistband could be pulled up to my chin practically, but it's hard to find "baggy" lycra.

I am not passing any judgement on this poster as to whether or not they are serious or trolling.
"Trolls" - named for both the ugly hairy guys that hang out under bridges and for those who troll (like the fishing term of dragging a line behind a slowly moving boat) forums to see if they can hook a sucker.
Generally they go around posting inflamatory things just to see how bad (good) the reactions that they can get are. Often they have a specific subject they like to troll about - "CF s*cks, Ti is the only good material" or "Lance Armstrong is the greatest of all times" or conversely "Lance Armstrong is the biggest Doper of all times". This kind of stuff is very elementary trolling, but can get people going good on some boards. Its not that the subjects are personal or intimate, its more that they inspire a strong reaction from the audience. Trolls like to make people argue.

hmmmm. interesting. I think I am just too simple of a person. I have way too much respect for my time to just go around trying to egg people on (is egg the right word there? it sounded right in my head). anyway - I am often considered naive b/c I generally think that people are being genuine and honest, when they are not. It's hard to not become cynical in this day and age, huh?
It makes me sad to realize that people can be so decrepid. Like poor Suzie's bike being stolen (this world is full of bad stuff - makes you appreciate when you find the good stuff, right?)
Cali - I am not sure how to even tell you how you could prove yourself to this group (any many here do not need you to prove anything) - but if it were me, and I knew I wasn't trying to do anything dis-honest, I would want to justify myself. I believe you have that right.

I don't think Cali Sunshine is a garden variety internet troll trying to bait us into arguing (although, if that is the goal then s/he has actually been successful  ).
However, I am getting very strong vibes suggesting a cycling garments fetish. This very thread we're on now is soliciting stories about folks wearing someone else's dirty shorts, another post is asking about ripped up shorts/tights (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?p=136668#post136668). And in the questionably sexist We Beat The Guys (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=11141) thread s/he waxes eloquent on the variety of fancy things that all these poser guys were wearing.
That's what creeps me out. Maybe these are all just innocent coincidences, but I've seen too many fetishists on other online forums to ignore my gut instincts on this.

I agree with Dianyla.
To me it seems too much like last month's guy who at first allowed us to believe he was a young woman, then wound up admitting he was a young male. He claimed to be sincere, wanting only to "promote understanding" concerning women's biking issues and relate his stories, wanting us to enlighten him about "certain things" he had seen or heard related to women biking. He then posted exclusively about male/female ego issues, personal hygiene, and bodily functions.
Joining up with no profile info at all, resisting introducing oneself, and a sudden initial burst of posts, this time concerning triumphing over men with huge egos, ripping shorts, and soiled shorts.
Sorry, but the writing style, content, and MO seem all too familiar to me. If not the very same person, then it's someone with many similarities.
And yes I LOVE that this OUR place, a place where we biking women can be friendly, welcoming, mutually supportive, and can feel safe.

What is happening to this forum? When did paranoia and suspicions rule the day? It's beginning to sound like the "other" forum I'm on -- where essentially newbies are treated like cr@p, for the simple reason they are newbies and ask strange/stupid/repetitious questions.
I will repeat, this is not the same person. As for a fetish..well with the number of times the Diva Cup thread gets revived around here one could draw strange conclusions about that too.

yeah i wasn't used to such an "unwelcoming" just for being a newbie. someone mentioned about me having an outburst of posts, so i'm guessing there's some rule for new people to not post "too much" and just listen? i've only made 2 threads up till now and a little over a dozen posts in the last 3 days or so. i don't think that's a lot but hey i guess a person's opinion of what's "a lot of posts" is all relative. maybe i might come off "too strong" but that's just my personality. i've been like that since i was a kid. but no one here has seen me insult anyone because that is not who i am. but i have been insulted by a few and accused of some kind of troll conspiracy paranoia. reminds me of bush and his administration after 9/11 accussing and arresting numerous people with their terrorist paranoia. or the "red scare" of the 1930's. same thing just on a smaller scale.

yeah it was "disturbing" to me also, mainly because of these claims of "fetishes." it makes you wonder where some of these people's minds are really at when they keep bringing up their "fetishes" out of the blue and unprovoked. i have never said one thing about any fetish yet a small handfull of people have and wrote paragraph after paragraph about it. sounds like a bit of projection to me. makes you wonder who the real weirdos are with the weird fetishes.

well i'm not that cynical about it. my bf to me is clean, i'm just thinking he would wear my sweaty shorts the same way you'd only eat off someone else's plate because you loved them. i know men that are extremely metrosexual and are super clean. and i've known some women that were utter dirtbags (trust me i've stayed in dorms and had roomates). to me it depends on the person.
