View Full Version : When dogs AREN'T scary....

The other day DH and I were biking down a back country dirt road, and heard some little barks starting up as we passed a house. "Dog Alert!" we say to each other, getting prepared, but then this little midget herd of 5 pomeranians comes charging down the driveway and they all screech to a halt and start yipping at us. They were so little that each yip made them leave the ground momentarily, like corn popping or something. Too funny. So we rode past this little pack of popping apoplectic tribbles trying to sound ferocious. We felt sorry for them, and tried to make them feel omnipotent by convincingly crying out "HELP! HELP!" as we passed.

Ha! We had a similar funny experience a few weeks ago involving a herd of miniature dachshund puppies. (And I do mean "herd" ... their owner was trying to keep them on the lawn when they really wanted to chase us down the street, and she could have used a border collie.)

But little dogs can still be scary. My very first bike wreck was when I was about 12 and I rode my bike about a half mile down to the creek -- as far as I was ever allowed to ride -- and a neighbor's little dogs came out and tried to bite at my tires. They caused me to crash and I got banged up pretty badly.

After that I only rode my pony to the creek, because he was perfectly willing to stomp on annoying little dogs, so they stayed out of his way.

:D You score points for great alliteration, plus a "Star Trek" reference, all in one sentence! Great imagery! :D

They aren't called "ankle biters" for nothing - just ask my chihuahua!

And ironically, now that I think about it, Poms DO resemble tribbles......

:p What a funny story. "HELP! HELP!"

I would be a bit worried about a pack of poms though, I got bit by one when I worked at Lowe's. They can be nasty little pups.

Yes, I was bitten on the ankle by a chihuahua once- and it's no picnic!
But these little guys probably couldn't have REACHED our ankles as we peddled. Besides, they were actually covering more distance exploding up and down vertically than moving towards us, so we sized their intentions up pretty easily. ...I keep envisioning them in one of those old fashioned Jiffy Pop things you shake over the stove. :D

Hi Amanda, I used to work at Lowes too. in Ga. People were always bringing their pets in, only a few "real" service dogs came in which are allowed. Jennifer

Old fashioned jiffy pop..... GAWD I miss that stuff. I used to make it when I baby sat and I would intentionally burn a little bit on the bottom just for me.....

I think I need to re-add that to my diet......

have you seen those little bags that are one serving now? i think those are neat. my sister had them up here when she was making my life miserable (i mean visiting) and was eating them all the time. apparently she didn't like my cooking.

Chick - I can relate. NO ONE likes my cooking....

And whats really bad is on those single serving bags that you mike, I like to add time so they burn just a little but it stinks up the house so bad that my DH pitches the biggest fit that its just not worth it....

Sometimes I really miss being single.....
