My apologies in advance for the vagueness of this post!!!

A couple of years ago I read a story (in Outside Magazine, I think) about cycling the classic ascents in the Alps. The story was about the fact that if a rider completed certain climbs in a specific timeframe and documented this fact (by getting some sort of notary to sign something) that the cyclist would get a medallion or a plaque or something to recognize the achievement.

Does this ring a bell for anyone out there? I told a friend about this article and now I can't find the original story or anything on-line about this.

I think you are after Les Cinglés du Ventoux. http://les.cingles.du.mont-ventoux.club.fr/index.htm is their address.

If I remember correctly (you will easily find out on the web site) you have to climb the Ventoux by three different roads in one day.

The Mont Ventoux is in France.

Merci, Grog.

That is exactly what I was looking for!
