OK--I can't always commute on my bicycle. And I don't live that far. So here's an idea for some of y'all that can swing it. I keep my faithful old Schwinn (Gertrude) at our business. She likes it down here. Then when I have to do errands during work (bank, PO, accountant's office), I hop on her. She's a "girl's" bike so I can even ride her with a skirt on. I just keep a helmet here. It's amazing how many miles I put on her in a year's time, and I am saving on burning fossil fuel. I'm known around town as that little woman on the green bike with a basket.

that's not cheating! My husband's job requires a lot of driving. So he drives to work, leaves the car there, and bikes home. Next day he bikes to work. He usually ends up having to drive somewhere, and if it involves the beginning or end of the day; he comes home in the car. but at least he's squeaking some rides in.
