What a great event! What a great weekend!

After reading bikerchick68’s review of The Lighthouse Century last year, I wanted to do the ride. I have heard great things about SLO bike club and their events. So Friday we loaded up my bike and headed south. I wanted to get to check in Friday night so I could start the ride the next morning without having to stand in lines.

We arrived at about 7:45 – just in time. And we couldn’t have caused more commotion if we had arrived fully engulfed in flames. Here’s why:

Yeah. This is my bike transporter. My husband, Robert built this rack for my bikes on one of his bikes. It’s perfect! But it sure draws a crowd! Everyone wants to know who built it and how it works.

I got checked in and we headed off to our hotel. We stayed in a really nice, romantic bed and breakfast. It was kind of extravagant, but you have to stop and enjoy life when you can, don’t you?

Saturday morning, Robert dropped me off at the ride start. Again, we caused quite a scene. We unloaded my bike and off I went. One great thing about this vehicle is that after delivering me, Robert had the afternoon to go riding his motorcycle.

The ride was great. I did the flat 100 mile course. The course was well marked and everyone was really friendly. There was a pretty strong head wind for 20 miles or so, but there wasn’t much climbing (they said 3,500 feet), so it wasn’t too bad. After the turn-around point it was tail wind almost the whole way back! Robert met me at the finish and talked to dozens of more people about the bike rack. There was a good barbecue at the end. All-in-all it was a great ride! I got a lot of comments on the AV gear!

Then it was back to the hotel for a long soak in the giant bath tub with lavender bath salts. I felt like the totally pampered princess! Mmmmmmm… It was nice! I can't think of a single thing that could have made it a better day!

It was such a great weekend. Even though Robert doesn’t ride bicycles much, he’s still there to share an event like this with me. And we made a great weekend out if it.

Lisa, that platform and the story of good times with hubby are just the greatest. What a wonderful way you've combined the two passions. How is the rear triangle of the bike supported? I suspect there is a custom market for the contraption.

Nice jacket. :p

Wow, how wonderful is that? What a great story with cool pix.

Your husband ought to patent that carrier design--seems like a market niche that might need filling.

Sounds like the perfect biking weekend, including both kinds of biking, good food, and lovely lodgings. How nice!

Bump!

We were just sitting here, thinking about the motorcycle Kitsune is restoring and then got on the subject of a TE thread that had the bike rack on the back of a motorcycle. I just had to do a search and find it again. That is still a great idea and just down right cool. We may look into the possibility of doing this in the near future. :D
