So, there's a duathlon at the end of October, and it's 3 run mi, ~11 mile ride, 2 mi run.

Here's the thing - I don't know if I can do the running part. The bike, no worries, but I am a SLOW runner, very very slow. I just don't have the running background at this point. I am not even sure I could do the 2nd run as a run.

What do you think? Sign up? Or wait til spring? I do not want to embarass myself, but it would give me a near term goal.

GO for it tygab!!!!

Just do some training between now and then and when you're doing the duathlon, listen to your body and walk when you need to! Lots of people take walk breaks or walk the whole way for that matter!

Enjoy yourself and you'll be just fine!

Thanks for the replies. I am hopeful that I can give it a shot. I would have been farther along but a cold kept me out of the gym a lot of this month, and it just has me wondering if its still something I should be attempting. As long as they don't mind a slow runner/walker, I think it'd be ok, but I've no frame of reference for this...

Tygab,

Go for it!!! I just did the Tri Girl Duathlon this past weekend and there were PLENTY of walkers!! I noticed alot of folks ran a little, then walked a little, ran a little, then walked a little. I think I even got passed by a speedwalker at one point  Holy moly she was flying!

You will do just fine and don't worry about being embarrassed!!!! The feeling you will get when you are done is absolutely priceless!!!:D :D

Hey, if you just want to go out there and do it... then do it.

I know with duathlons... really good runners and cyclists tend to be drawn the to the events. Whereas at tri's, you see more a large range of fitness levels.

But if you just care about enjoying the experience... and being there... and having fun... then go for it.

I also encourage you to start going BRICK workouts right now. Do bike/run/bike/run workouts. It can be short distances, but you need to get use to the jello legs when you go from bike to run.

GOOD LUCK!

Tygab,

Is this the Wrentham Halloween Duathlon? If it is, I am going to do it too!

I am a VERY slow runner. I only run about a 13 minute mile. If you would like to send me a PM, I would love to talk to you about the event.
