View Full Version : Sept 26th rides
Well, it was finally a nice still morning to ride. No 30 mph winds, nice and cool in the upper 50's and suppose to get to 90 today quickly so want to get out early and beat the heat.
I was bound and determined to get out today. I tried every time I turned around yesterday to ride while it was nice and never did make it. Just one thing after another.
I went on a great 20.5 mile ride. Met DH while he was working at a little coffee shop about 5 miles away after I had ridden the first 15. That gave me 5 miles to ride home and would give me a nice ride. I haven't ridden in a week and it was great to get out. Averaged 11.7 which is better than I had been doing, now that DH tightened up the suspension seat post.

Nice commute in at 7:30 or so. I took the scenic route home to add some miles, and because it was an absolutely beautiful day.
The sumac are fire red and the poplars gave one of the streets on the way home a golden glow. Good thing I wasn't in any hurry, because I slowed down and just enjoyed being out and about on such a nice day.
Great ride, great day to be alive.

Dh and I did a really lovely country ride of about 20 miles this afternoon- just took off from our work and went BIKING!! :D
I was alternatingly hot and cold and hot- was able to adapt by adding and removing thin layers, but had to do that several times. Climbed hills in the sun- HOT....then 35mph downhill in the shade- COLD! Then another long hill- HOT!
Good thing DH had his handydandy front basket on as a wardrobe carrier. Ah, early Fall. We stopped for ice cream as we got back to town (COLD! put on the vest AGAIN...).
Got to use my new bike computer for the first time today. It was FUN to know how fast we were going and the mileage, etc. Then about 2/3 through the ride I fiddled with it and pressed the wrong button combo and cleared the trip info back to zero again. DOH!!! Won't do THAT again.
It was great to be back on our bikes after DAYS of persistent rain and no biking.
A beautiful day.

4th ride in a month. A little over a month ago, the husband was rushed to the emergency room with kidney stones, which turned into a kidney infection, spread to his blood, and put him in the hospital for 2 weeks. He's been healing, and we've gone on a couple of short rides (of course, his brand new, custom-made Seven arrived while he was in the hospital). We finally got up to 28 miles today. For the first time in over a month. The weather was beautiful, and it was good to get out.
It's been a rough month, and I'm thrilled just to be riding. Not to spill my entire guts, but while the spouse was sick, my job told me that they no longer had funding for me, and my smallest poodle contracted a disease that was incurable. Just being able to ride has been excellent therapy.
And the one plus of being unemployed? More time to go riding! :D

I took my Giro out for a quick spin after I left the clinic this evening. I was able to sneak in 15.5 miles and it felt great to be on my bike. I'm hoping the weather holds tomorrow so that I can sneak in another 15 miles or so before my massage.

I really wanted to rest this week after my century, but the beautiful fall weather was calling me. I worked like crazy to get a bunch of stuff done at school and was able to leave by 3 or so. So I made a deal with myself that I would take my mtb out on the easy trail by here that i feel safe on and have a peaceful ride. I haven't been mtb since the end of August so I was very shaky to say the least. I made it a point to go slow, stay in a really easy gear and just enjoy the outdoors. Too bad that I almost ran into 2 runners.... there's usually no one on this trail during week days but I guess I'm not the only one who thought of using it after work today.
5 miles or so, beautiful weather about 64 degrees and i was actually clipped in most of the time.
Now I just have to get a new tire for my road bike and I will be back on the road Thursday... only 87 miles to make my goal.

Only worked half day so I cycled all the way home from work. Beautiful day. Sunny, warm and no wind. Last time I made this trip was in May when I didn't even make it up the second hill without stopping for a breather and I lost the cycle route and ended up doing the last bit along a busy road that wasn't very nice to ride along. I got home and just collapsed. This time was much better. I made it up all hills without much trouble, found the right cycle route which took me along winding country lanes and even for a while along a bridle path through a nature preserve. Great views from the top of the biggest hill. Could see all the way to the coast. Saw several beautiful male pheasants strutting their stuff. And I still felt great when I got home! All this riding must be working after all.
