Today was the GVCC's Victoria's Secrets ride; a regional tour of trails/paths/back alleys/shortcuts etc...little-known routes where bikes can go but cars can't. Nice warm weather, large group of riders, lots of hills but only 47km's distance. Interesting paths I never knew existed!

I went out for a show & go, tho' I had sort of wanted to take a nap... so that must be why it kept misting and drizzling, so we kept it short, so I only got 29 miles in - and then had my nap :)

My friend's bike got swiped from the bike rack :( He'd used his cable lock and not the U-lock. G-r-r-r-r.... folks around here do NOT need to do that.

I didn't go for a ride. I went kayaking for 4 hours instead. Hadn't been kayaking for a year. Oh, man, I love kayaking! Between kayaking and biking I can be very happy and content.

Set off my car alarm (it's never done that to me before!) in front of the kayak place. My, don't I feel smart....

Set the alarm for 5:30 this morning. BF and I met another couple and headed north to Loveland, OH to ride the rail trails there. I figured we would maybe get in 50 miles if we were lucky but we ended the day with 87 miles! We all rode our recumbents so this was the longest ride to date on my new Giro. I was hoping someone would suggest we ride south to Milford and back to make it a century but a group member was having a hard time toward the end and darkest was not to far off so we called it quits when we rode into Loveland. It was a great day on the bikes and boy am I tired this evening (I could not stay awake in the car on the way home, good thing I was not driving). Off to bed I go dreaming of the days when I can ride whenever I want to no matter what time of the year it is.

MY. It was just stunning and wonderful here today---completely clear and sunny, 70s, all the mountains were out, cool fall edge to the breeze. We did a 50-mile tandem ride around the north end of Lake Washington that includes several big hills, including a short steep one on which a single rider said, "You're the only tandem bike in Seattle I've ever seen coming up this hill." I know darn well other tandem folks must do that hill, but it was nice to hear the compliment anyway. We had a blast. Saw kingfishers arguing with each other up in the trees, saw herons, ducks, geese, fish.

Hey, Quill and I were there! We kayaked from Magnuson to St. Edwards and back.

You are hilarious! (I bet we'd ALL look to see if we were in the pictures!) Mount Rainier, which I always think of as a benign old grandfather of a mountain, was GORGEOUS today. And we weren't supposed to still be at the hotel but we are because the house really was not livable (I don't count a big blue tarp as an actual roof, myself). So...lots of small airplanes again out the hotel window, plus some hot air balloons and helicopters.

Sorry for brief PNW thread hijack. And the only time I kayaked, it was in a river kayak and all I did was go around in circles. Very embarrassing.

On Sat. we drove up Rt 313, went off on some gravel roads and two track roads (in a Toyota 4wd truck) until we got to the end of a road. Looking at a map, we were right at the apex of Bowtie Bend right on the Green River. A stunning place to camp. No one else around for miles.

We hung out at camp for the afternoon. We wandered around on the nearby slickrocks and for amusement we threw rocks off the cliffs of small nearby canyons just to hear them bounce and break!! hee hee. It was a beautiful night with lots of stars and not cold. We had a rip roaring fire going. Slept like a rock.

On Sunday, after a leisurely breakfast and packing up camp we drove to the turnoff for Gemini Bridges Rd on 313. We rode down the gravel road (mtn bikes), to a two track and to the bridges. A very interesting pothole arch, divided into two by a failed joint set that fell out. Looked around there for a little while. bf fixed a flat he had. Some folks in jeeps were leaving there when we left. We watched them crawl up some big ledges (looks scary). We decided to see if we could ride to where the trail goes to the bottom of Gemini Bridges. Rode downhill for a few miles on a farily smooth jeep road, it eventually turned into a wash that was rough going. Checking the map and the clock, it was still quite a ways to the end of trail where the bridges were. We decided to turn around as we had a lot of climbing to get back to the truck.

Went into Moab before heading home. Had mexican food at Fiesta Mexicana, which is a pretty good place to eat.

Drove Rt 128, along the Colorado River, up to I-70, then home to Grand Junction.
