So I'm curious...
What is your favorite type of cycling? Granted that might be a bit simplistic. Nonetheless, it might give an idea of what type of riding we most enjoy.
For answer choices I've created what I thought were the most common but by no means do I think that list is exhaustive. Please mention your favorites as desired :D

No choice for downhill road bikes?
Mostly I love just leisurely pedaling through the countryside with my wonderful DH.

I like the long distances, but most of all love just tooling around & looking at nature! I see beautiful herons, swamplands full of acres of water lilies, old red barns... just lovely.

I actually like all of it...but I voted for climbing because to me, it's a great challenge, a great accomplishment, and the higher I go, the better the view! :D

I vote "touring".... I LOVE spending time with my husband, no matter what we're doing..... but, sharing a love for cycling and enjoying it together is THE BEST :D ! He's my very best friend :) .
As I become a more experienced cyclist, I can see where I might enjoy climbing and long distance riding <<-- provided I can take my time to enjoy the scenery.
Peace & Love to All,
Denise

For me it was a process of elimination....
Sprint? Me? HAH!!!!!!!!
Climbing is much of an option here in the sandhills of NC (max elevation change I've found so far is about 200')
Time Trialing...don't you have to be, ya know, fast? Not there yet by any streach of the imagination!
Downhill MTB...ah, see climbing above, that would require some sort of hill, right?
Long Distance Riding/Centuries/Brevets...let me do at least 20 miles once before I contemplate something with three significant digits in it, okay?
Touring...considering the speeds I maintain, smelling the flowers isn't a choice, I can't hold my breath long enough to not smell them (or the farmer 'fertilizing' his organic field....gah! , yeah, that was a 'ripe' ride there!)
Commuting...I hope to do that in the near future, once I figure out how to get my 50+ pound book/computer bag there with me...
Track/Velodrome...hmmm, not much change in scenery there, right?
Cassie, thanks for the survey!

Hah! Thanks for sharing your decision-making process, RHG! Mine was somewhat similar, though I almost went with long-distance, because I do enjoy long rides. But there's long distance (50-100 miles or so) and then there's loooonnnnnnng distance (brevets, etc), so when I saw the word "brevets," I moved along to the next choice: touring. After all, I figure you can call it touring whether you're on a multi-day expedition or a day's ride to a nice picnic spot. Anyway, touring is what it's all about for me.
