I got my Sugar Knickers in the mail from TE and wanted to give them a spin. It's 56 degrees and sunny here, wind NW, 12mph. I put on the knickers, smart wool crew socks, sleeveless tech top, wonderful new longsleeve Icebreaker merino wool zip up t-neck, headband, helmet, short-finger gloves, and off I went!

Brrrrrrrrrrr!

3/4 of a mile and I was done. Back home. I only had 30 min to ride before having to shower and get to a meeting at work, so no time to tweak it. Next time I'd add a jacket, glove liners under cycling gloves, and tights. I think I'll order some leg warmers.

I was surprised to be so chilled at 56 degrees. Maybe once I really got going, I would have warmed up fine, but my fingers were really feeling frozen. It can't possibly be time for the full gloves? That's so ... winter! Sigh. Welcome to fall!

I must say, though, I really like the chamois on these knickers. After they get a longer trial ride, I may just order some shorts with the chamois. Ah, the search continues.

Lise, try some high wool socks with the knickers. You can start with your legs completely covered, then push them down as you warm up.

Great idea, Deb! I actually have some long black wool socks. I probably never would have thought of that!

And thanks for the links, Renee. That layering page looks very helpful.

The cold weather has me excited for Cross season....I think I'm going to order some base layers from Craft!

I find that the first cold rides of the season are extra hard just like the first hot days of the summer (well, spring here). It takes a few days for my body to re-adjust to the new higher or lower temp.
