In the spirit of bringing more awareness and recognition for the elite women in our sport....here's some big news...

Kristin Armstrong won the Time Trial event in the World Championships today. Nicole Cooke, who is probably the most dominant rider in all of cycling and favorite for the road race gold medal, finished fifith in the TT

You can read more about Kristin here:

I first saw that news under this headline:

Armstrong adds to Lance tradition with world title (AFP)

Does it irk anybody else that this awesome women's win has to be tied to Lance? They didn't even put Kristin's full name in the headline!

Deanna - yes!! amen sister!

Here Kristin has won an event at the very top of her field, besting the world's finest riders. Yet why the mention of LA??? The American press/media seems to tie everything to LA which is really annoying.

I won't even get into doping and character.

!

Cassandra, AFP is Agencie-France Press, not to be confused with the Associated Press (AP). As you may have guessed, AFP is French, so they'e not American.
Deanna, I still find it strange that they would choose that as the headline. Maybe it goes back to Velogirl's thread about the lack of recognition for women's racing.
