Went and tried on some cycle helmets last night. I am very small (only just over 5ft) and very slim. Tried on several helmets. Adults and youth's sizes were too big. The only one's that fitted properly were kiddies helmets (I have the same problem with spectacles - adult frames are too large for me - but I wear contact lenses now so that cured that problem) so unless I can track down something with a better fit I'm either going to end up with a helmet with Barbie, cute little daisies, "Hello Kitty" or a boys blue one with bright red spiders all over it:rolleyes:

I wish the manufacturers would acknowledge that there are some very small adults who want safety but don't want to look stupid with it:mad:

Sounds good to me....don't know why you would think it would look stupid.:D

Sounds frustrating!
Have you been to different stores yet? Maybe there is an LBS out there that carries children's helmets in plain colors (or at least a print you can live with). My favorite LBS has a huge selection of helmets for kids, but the LBS near my house only has a handful. Try another store and see if you can't find one. Good luck!

Look for a quality helmet with tension adjustments. My Giro is tiny. I wear a small but have the tension as loose as it can be. Your helment should fit snug before you fasten the chin strap. My last helment was a Limar. It fit nice and snug with plenty of room for adjustment as well. s

LOL, I have a small head as well and was able to use Trek's Vapor3 in a small. As for the blue with bright red spiders.... I picked it up and now need to lenghten the straps :D I wish it was black with red spiders LOL....
I haven't made the jersey that I want to as the materials ended up not being exactly right the way they're made to use for jersey. It's shiney black stretch lame with red spiders all over it...
I'm an Alice Cooper fan so it really appealed to my warped sense of humour.. These of course are the Primal jerseys I'm lusting after right now.. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a361/mary9761/Jersey%20Wish%20List/alicecooper01_popupb.jpghttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a361/mary9761/Jersey%20Wish%20List/alicecooper02_popupb.jpg
Did I mention, I'm not into girlie jerseys etc?

python,

not sure how small your head is but mine is pretty small as well. often i can't find hats to fit me even if they are "small." i think my head is like a size 6 and 3/4 or so if that helps.

anyone, trying on different helmets i really liked the bell helmets because they have the adjustment thingy in the back so i can dial in my size. the shape of the bell helmets also seemed to fit my head better.

i'd try diff manufacturers. not sure how many you tried.

if you can find one that's somewhat close they also sell those foam strips to help size helmets .. but really i don't know if that's safe with bike helmets.

best of luck

My nine year-old son is just "a wee slip of a thing", and he has a helmet that's cooler than mine. Red and black from Giro.

Good luck :)

Barbie on a grown-up sounds kinda cute :D

I have 3 boys and they all wear Giro helmets and they look exactly like their father's helmet and mine (except mine is pink and white). Good luck!

Python, I went through the same thing. Even if I could find an adult helmet that fit me, it was out of proportion to my head and made me look like a big mushroom. I finally found a Bell Craze child's helmet that fit both size and proportion. It's an almost carbon fiber-looking dark grey, so it's perfect with my bike. Keep looking- There are "normal" looking kid's helmets out there.

The blue helmet with the red spiders was a Bell and it was a good fit. I don't suppose it really matters what colour/design it is so long as it does it's job. I can still remember whacking my head badly as a 6 year old when I had an accident with my bike....ouch!!!

I was going to go down to our bike shop today but it was quite windy out and I'm afraid I was a bit lazy and have been bit of a lounge lizard today:rolleyes:

I, too, am a pin-headed, freakishly short woman :D , and I have had luck with Giro helmets. Bell helmets, even the few that did actually fit, always looked ridiculously bulbous.

If you have to go the child helmet route, though, maybe the boys' helmets would be better -- more likely to find some cool flame patterns or something!

My sympathies. I have the opposite problem, due to major cranial acreage. All the women's helmets are too small. Ditto gloves. I shop in the men's department because of this.

Our LBS carries a pretty cool selection of kids' helmets. I'm including a link so you can take a peek and see what I mean. Have faith. They are "out there", you just have to look.

There some nice kids helmets that would fit there. Shame I'm in the UK as they're reasonably priced too - £22 or under in our money. We've got quite a few bike shops in town so I'll have a wander round tomorrow. I have no intentions of being a lounge lizard two days runnng;)

That spider helmet is COOOOOOOL!!! Wish I'd seen it, though I do love my new Giro Havoc.

Unlike the OP, I am a very petite gal but have a size Medium Giro (adult) head. Same size as my DH! (I tell him it's all the brains in there....heehee :D :D :D )

Your helmet and your shirt are awesome!
